Welcome everyone 50
Hello everyone, we have had a serious growing amount of members and I wanted to take the time to welcome everyone. The reason why am posting, is because somebody said that the group has some issues. And they've tried to post to the group so I'm going to see if this post goes through.

Paratransit 7
Hi all. I changed the subject to better reflect my thoughts. I've used paratransit off and on since the mid-90s, with mixed results. Time probably won't permit me to go into a big rant about this, but suffice it to say I have mixed feelings about ADA paratransit. It's a great concept that has been plagued with problems over the years. I've arrived at this conclusion based on my own experiences with the local system, and also based on what I've heard from friends/family and read from acquaintances and in a few books on disability history. I've heard time and again that everything and everyone has their issues, and this is a true statement. But I firmly believe that something that is nationwide shouldn't have this many issues. Furthermore, it seems to me that these issues--or most of them--are not being resolved in a timely fashion if at all. I realize I'm being rather blunt here, but this is and has been an issue that really pushes my hot buttons. I published a rant about it over on my journal. But there was a guy here in my city who drove people around for a flat fee. I think he has since retired, but I also heard from someone that he is still driving. I rode with him a few times, and was very impressed. Jake --Please visit me at https://jazzyjj.dreamwidth.org .

Subject Line 5
Hello everyone, I am enjoying reading the messages in this group. It would be helpful when sorting through the many emails if the subject line were more geared to what the message is about. Currently, the subject line says "Welcome everyone." May you all have a great day! Irene Pennsylvania

Public transportation such as Uber and Lyft 3
Good evening everyone, I got an a question on another list a few days ago, regarding lift and Uber. I consider these ways of public transportation. And for those of us that are in a order of shelter in place, I recommend that you check your local media, to see if they have also banned public transportation. I can tell you in the state in the county that I am in, they have been using public transportation unless it is a emergency. So with that being said the services are going to be affected for the foreseeable future until we are done with the coronavirus. I'm still planning on leaving the group up for discussions of Uber and lift, for those that wish to have them. So the group will not be going anywhere. And whenever I know that counties and places start being lifted due to COVID-19 being no longer around I will come back in post and let you guys know that the services are not lifted and you may Resume writing on your public transportation.

Booking an Uber Ride using Voice Assistants 4
Hi I trust and pray all is well with everyone. While browsing online I found information wherein people are saying that one can easily book a ride through Uber using voice assistants like Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri. I tried numerous times but did not succeed. Am I doing something wrong or its not possible at all or even so such a way even exist. Because I personally believe if by just using my voice I could book a ride than that would really be a boon for visually impaired like me. Looking forward to hear your amazing thoughts and opinion on this! Regards Pramit

[BlindTlk] One-Minute-Video Project for Lyft and Uber denials
Hello all, I know most of you or some of you that are on these list, have guide dogs and have used Uber or Lyft and have had issues. And I think it's only appropriate to spread the word about what the national Association of guide dog users are doing. So please read the message below to find out more information. Begin forwarded message: From: Raul Gallegos - NAGDU via BlindTlk <blindtlk@...> Subject: [BlindTlk] One-Minute-Video Project for Lyft and Uber denials Date: March 9, 2022 at 8:22:37 PM CST To: NFB Talk List <nfb-talk@...>, Blind Talk List <blindtlk@...> Cc: Raul Gallegos - NAGDU <rgallegos@...> Reply-To: Blind Talk Mailing List <blindtlk@...> Hello everyone, please share this wherever appropriate. The National Association of Guide Dog Users (NAGDU), a division of the National Federation of the Blind (NFB), is collecting stories from handlers who have been denied rides from Lyft and Uber drivers in video form from October 1, 2021 through March 31, 2022. Our goal is to put these videos together to present to the individual rideshare companies to make them aware that blind people with legitimate guide dogs and other service animals are still getting denied by drivers all over the country. You do not have to be a member of the NFB or NAGDU to submit a video. We ask that the videos are filmed after a denial occurs, not during. Videos should be no longer than one minute in length and should describe who you are and the impact of the denial. I.E. did you miss a doctor¡¯s appointment or were you late to pick up your child from daycare? By submitting a video, you are giving us permission to share your information with Lyft and/or Uber. Please contact the NAGDU board of directors at (346) 439-7444 or board@... if you have any questions or to submit your video. Testing the groups address, some new members have joined, and somebody tried to post and it didn't work. 9
Hello Hall, I'd like to take the time to walk them all the new members that I've joined in the past week. There's been a lot of new members. So I thought I would take the time to welcome all of them and hope this message goes through. Turn off the view that aren't really for sure about the list. I would like to let you know, that this list covers both Uber and Lyft options that are available in their respective apps. This is a place where we can discuss the problems and hopefully make fixes and healthy very inexperienced users. And I am the sole owner and I'm happy to treat this place like it's my own family. So if you have a problem, come to me directly. Don't make it an issue on the list.

It?s now possible for people with disabilities to go wherever they want to, whenever they want to ? at the touch of a button. In this short guide, let us take a look at the accessibility features available in the Uber ridesharing app. Compatibility with VoiceOver and TalkBack One of the most notable features of the Uber ridesharing app is that it?s fully compatible with VoiceOver and TalkBack. You can also use your voice to interact with the app. It makes it possible for people with visual and speech impairments to request a ride, cancel a ride, communicate with the driver, and pay for a ride with just a few taps on the screen. Requesting a Ride Using a Screen Reader * Single tap and then double tap the ?Where To? box. * Enter the destination or choose one from the list of destinations suggested to you. Alternatively, you can simply say where you want to go. * Your pickup location is automatically determined based on your current location. If you want to change it, you can tap on it and say where you want to go. You can also double tap it and edit the location manually. * The next step involves choosing your ride. You can swipe through the options using three fingers. To choose a ride, you need to single tap and then double tap on it. * Single tap and then double tap the ?Confirm Pickup? option to request a ride. * Once you request a ride, you will receive a message confirming your ride request and your ride?s expected time of arrival. Communicating with the Driver If you have a visual impairment, you can talk to the driver in the following manner. * Single tap and then double tap on the phone icon at the bottom of the screen. * Single tap and then double tap the ?Free Call? option. Once you do, you will be connected to the driver. If you have a hearing impairment, you can communicate with the driver by texting them. It should be noted that the Uber ridesharing app is designed to facilitate verbal as well as non-verbal communication. Even in the absence of audio, the app?s functionality will not be affected in any way. Using a screen reader, you can also access a wide range of other options on the Uber ridesharing app. These include: Your trips ? Allows you to check out your ride history, submit feedback about your trip, Payment ? Allows you to add or update your credit card details or online payment service details. Settings ? Allows you to edit or update your contact information and add contacts with whom you want to share your location and ride details. UberWAV for People with Limited Mobility One of the best features of the Uber ridesharing app is the UberWAV <https://www.uber.com/us/en/ride/uberwav/> , which allows you to choose a vehicle that can accommodate your disability. WAV stands for wheelchair accessible vehicles. These are vehicles that are fitted with ramps or lifts, have wide doors, as well as a spacious interior that can accommodate foldable as well as non foldable wheelchairs. Requesting an UberWAV ride is just as easy as requesting a regular ride. * Open the app and tap the ?Where To? box to enter your destination or choose a desti

gogograndparent.com is a phone service with an app uber and lyft users can use to arrange transportation and it does not cover all areas of the United States. It will get you the least expensive ride from the two services. Jude <jdashiel at panix dot com> "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo. hello 8
HI folks: Thought I¡¯d quickly drop in. This group is quiet but thought I¡¯d give it a bit of a ¡°jump-start¡± (no pun intended) to keep it from going dormant. I am mainly going to be lurking as Uber and Lyft isn¡¯t available in my small city; however, I¡¯ve used the service a few times pre-COVID riding with colleagues on work-related trips. However, I like to follow along on legislative and human rights issues across North America. I reside in Northern BC, in Canada. I am also a guide dog user as well. Thanks and have a lovely day (hoping it is sunny wherever you are as it is beautiful here!). Jen

Complaints 4
Hi guys, I just got back from a doctor appointment and It took me three tries before I was able to get a ride. The first time I tried, the driver wouldn¡¯t answer his phone, and it went right to voicemail. The second time, the driver was just puttering around nearby and he didn¡¯t even know what I was talking about in regard to my location. The office I was at is a place where I¡¯ve taken Lyft to many times in the past. I¡¯m particularly mad at the second driver as he couldn¡¯t be bothered to even try and have his GPS try and locate me. I can¡¯t find out where to file a complaint as I don¡¯t want to be charged for the first two rides where the drivers couldn¡¯t find me.

[beta] Reverification Topic Started 1.23.24 #misc
Hello guys, I know that this is a draft process, but I wanted to alert everybody to what is going on currently right now at groups io. And I'm hoping that most of you if not all of you, Will encourage other members to at least log into their accounts, so that they could stay verified. And if you're an owner of a group, you should be checking your members for sure. My plan is in the next day or so, to check and see if there are any of you that are unverified I know on some of my groups, that I run myself, I have old addresses that are in bouncing status and some of those people have either not unsubscribe with those email addresses and applied with new ones or chose to go in an active status. So I recommend reading this all the way through and checking to see if your subscription for any of your groups is affected. Please read the below to get more information Begin forwarded message: From: "Mark Fletcher" Subject: Re: [beta] Reverification Topic Started 1.23.24 #misc Date: January 23, 2024 at 12:04:41 PM CST - Hi All, Here is a first draft of an email to moderators. Please let me know if you have any feedback. Thanks, Mark Hello, You are receiving this email because you are a moderator of one or more Groups.io groups. We are in the process of reverifying some of our users and we wanted to make sure you knew what was happening and why. For more detail about this, please visit the Reverification FAQ, at /static/reverifyfaq On Saturday January 13th, 2024, an anti-spam service called Spamhaus labeled one of our email servers as a spam sender. This caused any email service that uses Spamhaus to stop accepting email from our server. Because of this, we began a reverification process and sent out reverification emails to a subset of our users on Sunday January 14th. Spamhaus lifted their block on Monday, January 15th, 2024, but we need to continue the reverification process. You can see which, if any, of your users are affected. Go to the Admin section of your group and look at the Members page. Next to each user's email, there may be a badge with the letters RI or RS. RI means the confirmation/reverification is in progress, but has not been completed. RS means the confirmation/reverification has been successfully completed. Here are the next steps in the reverification process: On Sunday, January 28th, group emails to people in the RI state will be disabled. Messages from moderators and login link emails will still work. Until February 11th, people will still be able to reverify themselves and the RI and RS badges will still show up in the Members page. After that, members still in the RI state will be removed from groups. The activity log entry will be Membership - Member Removed, with the added reason of reverification failed. For domains where no reverifications happened, no invites or Direct Adds will be permitted going forward. If there is a valid person on one of those domains, they should contact [email protected] to have the domain ban lifted. We apologize for the inconvenience this process may cause, but it is necessary to ensure that we are able to continue delivering group email reliably. Thank you for using Groups.io. Best Regards, The Groups.io Team

Scanning License Plates with OCR Apps? 3
Hi all. Subject pretty much sums it up. There's a backstory to this, but I'll get right to the question. Can any of the scanning apps such as Seeing AI and Be My Eyes detect the license plates of these vehicles? I *might* start taking Uber or Lyft to church on Sundays. This will most likely be a work in progress. Tia for anyone's assistance with this. Jake --Please visit me at https://jazzyjj.dreamwidth.org <https://jazzayjj.dreamwidth.org/> .

help using the uber web site to ask questions before I can use the service 7
Hello all, I am new to this llist and hope some one can answer this question and give me some one instructions. My knowledge of the iphone is still very basic, and it will be a long while yet before I'm comfortable using the uber app on it. So this is not yet an option for me. However, because of the limited nature and ability of public transportation in my area to help me in all times, places and circumstances I would like to explore Uber as an alternative. I created a presence on uber by signing in with my google account so I can start using the uber web-site more.uber.com but don't know where to go next as a beginning user who has no clue where he's going and would like to contact uber support to ask questions. I want to research pricing, etc., before I make a decision about using it for a trip somewhere. But I'm not sure how to find myself various places using Jaws. There doesn't seem to be a "contact us," option where I can type a question and get a response from some one on how to do some things. What am I missing? I can't find that option on the site unless I'm not clicking the right place. Where do I go to ask about pricing options, etc., before using my first ride? At the top of the page it says "plan your uber journey." Arrowing down it says "uber, car front graphic ride, keys car rent, restaurant, eat, receipt graphic my trips, Ryan graphic (Ryan's my name), chevron down small graphic, main region. Heading level 1 get a ride, plan your uber journey document collapsed, pick-up location, drop-off, then it comes up with some locations, report map set location, etc. No tuturial or anything. I need links for pricing from my home to various areas and various mile options, for example three miles vs. fifteen. This will enable me to know just how expensive it is going through Kalispell, Montana compared with going to Bigfork, Montana, twenty minutes away. Where is this info? Blind people report Uber working fine on phones, but I'm not to that place yet. I rely on web-sites still. What do you on this list suggest I do? Using the tab key it says clock pick now chevron, person for me chevron down small, plan your uber journey document, and that's it. Is uber just not practical to use without a phone? Please let me know my options as a first time user who is not able to use his phone yet and how I should use the site, or if it even can be used and how to do it. God bless and have a good day, Ryan Coverdell P.S. I am willing to talk by phone to any one who e-mails me I will give that information if I believe it will help.

Language barrier concerns 36
Hi guys, I am wondering how you all handle situations where your driver doesn¡¯t speak English? I have run into situations like this from time to time and the outcome has been negative more times then positive. Take last week for instance, I was dropped off down the block from my destination, and when I asked the driver a question, I was simply ignored. I didn¡¯t give a good rating. Other times, I have been a little luckier but am not feeling comfortable. For transportation I use Lyft. I had one driver a year or so ago even laugh at me when we had to find the right location and that was several blocks away. I just let him leave me at the location, and reported him to Lyft and then ordered another ride home.

disability related deals 3
Is there any deals or programs for uber and LYFT for the Blind or people with disabilities which prevent them from driving? I seem to remember a program which allows me to pay one price a month for a ride package with one of the rideshare companies? Or, am I just wrong? Thanks, Justin
