NTE184
I'm not very experienced at evaluating substitute transistor. I was wondering if anyone thinks a NTE184 would work better than the D882. To me it looks like it will output a little more power. See

Re: Forth-9er not working
I have made a heat sink for the 882 with tin snips and a coke can, it's a big ugly thing looks like a fan lots of surface area. It seems to be running cooler...time will tell.

TXoffset usage
Just hoping to get some clarification on the offset before I run off and start doing it. First, it seems to me that it is pretty much required? Has anyone been able to QSO without it? Second, when

Re: Forth-9er not working
You don't look for a cooler transistor. Especially if you want four watts out. You need a bigger heatsink, period. Get the one at Radio Shack and if it doesn't work I'll buy it from you and pay

Re: Forth-9er not working
Thanks Jack and Berry, I am using 13.8v changing R1 on the VFO board should lower the drive voltage and reduce the heat. Really don't want to reduce it however, would like 4 watts doubt if I am

The nice big heat sink from Radio Shack works great! On Friday, September 16, 2016, Jack Purdum jjpurdum@... [SoftwareControlledHamRadio] <SoftwareControlledHamRadio@...> wrote:

Re: Forth-9er not working
What input voltage are you running? A lot of people run their 13.8V supply, which is too high. Back it down to 12V and it should run cooler. Also, I had a post a long time ago about cutting up a Coke

I got the forty-9er working my problem was a bad NE612. In tracing it down I came to the conclusion that the picture of the inductor and capacitor on the forty-9er board of the low pass filter in the

Marty Yes you are correct on that. It didn't seem to make a difference. I'll take the time this weekend to go point by point. 73 -- Sumter Tisdale On September 14, 2016 at 16:49:21, Marty Boroff

Sumter I didn't read a post about using a mono plug but my schematic shows that all of the leads on the socket are joined to gether except for ground. Therefore it should not matter if you use a

Thanks for your thoughts, it's kind of tough looking for these kind problems without a signal generator and scope to help. I was thinking the audio is ok because a hear noise. I will let you know if I

I have this exact issue and have not had enough time to really dig in so I will follow this thread as well. I believe it is something in the receiver audio chain as far as a bad part or poor solder

I suspect there must be a ton of post like this, but here is another one. The VFO is working great, I get a hiss sound but no signals when I connect the antenna. When I key the forty-9er my main rig

Looking at some of the photos of the 49er DDS VFO I have seen a little board in the middle at the back of the plastic enclosure. I did not see this in the instructions and cant make out what board

Jim You may be able to verify the frequency by just connecting J2 or J3 pins to the antenna of a HF rig. 73,Marty WD9GYM

Re: Substituting Uno for Nano on Forty-9er VFO
Did you change any of the VFO code? Check to make sure you have the encoder switch hooked up correctly. The switch connection (SW on the KY-040a encoder) goes to pin 17 on J1. The other side of the
