Re: Got my ticket!
Sounds like were from the same era. I got my ticket in 1954 and have been licensed ever since. Been a Life Member of the ARRL since 1972...best $150 investment I ever made! I know enough electronics to get into trouble, but am fairly good on the software end of things. I love to build stuff and wish I was a EE guy instead of an economist!? I'll be doing Field Day from the club station, W8MRC, mostly on CW. 73, Jack, W8TEE From: "frye.dale@... [SoftwareControlledHamRadio]" To: SoftwareControlledHamRadio@... I am planning on going to a field day somewhere this Saturday. I suspect I will go to the North Fulton (Roswell, GA) one since it is nearby and I can only do it for a couple of hours. I've received invites to others in the area. Wow, Hams are a friendly bunch! Unfortunately my friend, Steve Hudson AA4BW, won't be here. He will be working CW QRP from Palau, Micronesia! He does have different call letters for there but I don't know them. (I better ask quick before he leaves!) Steve talked me into getting back into Ham. I did start on getting my Novice 40 years ago but things got in the way. Little bit of background - I have been involved with computers for 40+ years, soup to nuts. The past two years I've been playing around with Arduino and ESP8266. I'm strong on the digital side, hardware and software. The analog side is quite a bit rusty. Hoping being a ham will encourage me to improve that deficiency. Steve and I have been talking about direct conversion receivers so when I found this group I was really excited.

Re: Got my ticket!
No, but I did learn that I cannot edit your data. So, if you want to add your new call, you'll have to edit it yourself. I do see you back on the roster and Dennis told me he approved it, so you should be good to go. So far, I'm happy with the group and there seems to be some good info flowing back and forth. I hope QST sees this interest and starts having more construction articles. I was happy to see one in this month's issue. 73, Jack, W8TEE From: "frye.dale@... You really gave me a scare!. All of a sudden I was no longer connected. Was wondering if I had been a bad boy. Whew! I've really enjoyed being on this group.

Congrads! The only way I can update your membership to use your call is to remove you from the membership list, which I have done. Reapply using your call this time. Jack, W8TEE From: "frye.dale@... A week ago last Sunday took the Technician test. Passed it. Then took the General even though I hadn't prepped for it. Passed it. Got my ticket today. Please add my call sign to the roster. Dale Frye WM4UUB

Re: Pilot error?
I wouldn't unsolder them yet, until you're convinced they're bad. Check the voltage on the base and collectors of the transistors. I can't remember the voltages you should see on the collectors, but the collector of Q2 is connected to 12V via L1. Also, check to see what you're getting out of R1, too. As I said earlier, mine's not here now so I can't measure the voltages for you. 73, Jcak, W8TEE From: "xeragi@... [SoftwareControlledHamRadio]" To: SoftwareControlledHamRadio@... Ah - you are on to something. As best I can measure, I see no output from either transistor. ?Its hard to believe that both are faulty, but should I try to replace both of them? ?Last time I tried to unsolder from the board was not easy for me, but I can give it a try.... Just bought the components for the BCI filter. Thanks Ivan-WC2S ---In SoftwareControlledHamRadio@..., <jjpurdum@...> wrote : Check the buffer transistors. What are the voltages on their pins? ? Thanks for the suggestions. Since my original post, I reset the rotary encoder pin positions according to those I saw in W5GW's VFO checkout, and I think this question has been resolved. I also aligned R8 to the correct voltage divider voltage (3.92v with my power supply) according to K5HDE's post, and hope that the AD9850 is happier. However, I still do not see more than 2-3 millivolts output AC on my DVM at J3 as you recommended no matter where I put R1. ?I do not have a scope to verify the output frequency. J2 output is the same as J3, in the 2-3 mv range. Thanks Ivan - WC2S |

Karl, nice to see another "old timer" still at it! I'm 76, still having a great time (between the pain pills).
I got an early start at 14, so I may have an advantage. Don't give up on it, you will find plenty of help here. I got interested in it because of the Arduino computer/software. 73, W4GHV since 54. Bo |

Hang in there, Karl! This "software stuff' can turn out to be a lot of fun. Thanks Wayne for your offer; I'll?just wait for my 10 pcs to arrive from China, as I am not in a hurry to get this build up and running with all of the summer activities that?I will be getting involved in.? If it were Winter, that would be a different story, hi hi.? This radio project looks like it will be quite challenging, however.? This software stuff, will be all new to me.? At age 80, I hope that I will be able to handle it, hi hi.? Thanks again, 73, de KO8S, Karl On Thursday, June 16, 2016 8:13 PM, "wayne.dillon@... [SoftwareControlledHamRadio]" wrote:

Re: Pilot error?
Thanks - I did see your post on measuring the VFO output. Unfortunately, I do not have an oscilloscope to see that aspect of the output. However, per your suggestion and measuring with my DVM, I get only 2-3 millivolt output on J2 and J3 - no difference, and certainly nowhere near 3-4 volts. Ivan - WC2S From: "bobarr@... Did you see my earlier post on how to measure the VFO output? I'll go looking for it and post it here.

I also need to figure out how to create an LCD.h file which apparently I need to functionalize the latest revision of the VFO.ino - mine won't compile because the LCD.h file is missing. BCI filter to be constructed when I get to ordering the parts! Thanks Ivan - WC2S |
