Yeah, that's probably an unnecessarily long wait. The ATTiny85 code has a couple of delays that result in the long wait. It can easily be shortened by changing these two lines:

You press the power button. The AtTiny tells the Teensy - "It's time to
shut down".
The Teensy quickly cleans up and tells the atTiny - "OK to shut down
now", and the
atTiny turns off the juice.
So the Teensy doesn't "wait" for the atTiny - it's the atTiny waiting
for the Teensy.
It should reasonably happen in one swing of the main loop.
