Locked Reducing the R90S's weight
As I get older and a little less strong, I'm at the point of deciding whether I should sell my '76 R90S or shed some weight off it so I can ride it for a few more years before taking it back to stock (as far as possible) and selling it.?
Any ideas on easy weight reduction solutions that I could try? Switching to a lithium battery, lighter wheels? Thanks, Sri Nair Manitoba, Canada |
Lose weight, walk regularly and do some push ups, one push up per day, then two, get to 10, two or three times daily. Or start with push ups with your knees on the ground and work up (I have a bad back so this worked for me as a starter). Upper body strength is crucial.? Sorry to say, but you don't have many options.? The bike has already been stripped of excess weight in the manufacturing process...lightweight alloys in the whole drive train, aluminum wheels and fiberglass bodywork for the most part. The most weight can be shed by only filling your tank halfway....I don't know what else to say other than park it for awhile and try a R65 or R65LS. Despite what some may say, it's not a bad alternative.? If you search awhile you will be able to find a nice one.? A bit lighter and more nimble.? Wish you luck.? Todd

I have read men can go into their 80s and still have good muscle. You definitely can gain muscle, but you literally must work the muscles you want to get stronger for them to be stronger.? For example, push ups help with shoulder, back, arm, stomach (core) muscles. I can attest to that. Seems a cliche but use it or lose it is so very true.? My wife was saying she needed a lighter bike. She started doing push ups and¡her bike got lighter!! Mac On Thu, Mar 10, 2022 at 21:28 <snair4337@...> wrote: Ha! I'm 120 pounds and can't afford to lose any weight. I¡¯ll get yelled at for suggesting this, but you could get rid of the center stand and just use the side stand. Might save a pound or two.? On Thu, Mar 10, 2022 at 11:28 PM <snair4337@...> wrote: Ha! ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýSometimes a little wider +/- taller bars make a bike easier to manage. Both on & off the bike.? On Mar 11, 2022, at 10:44 AM, snair4337@... wrote:

I feel your pain Sri.? Nearing 70-years old it gets to be a bit of a burden but still unwilling to give up Trudy, my 76 R90S...Ralph

Thanks Everyone. I'm doing all the muscle building I can because I really don't want to give up the bike but it is slow going. I'll keep at it. Meanwhile, anyone has any suggestions for a lighter battery, lithium ion maybe? And I'll keep it at 1/2 tank gas if not going on long rides. Sri |
?While having R90/6 and an R90/SI I still ride both. The wider bars on the /6 make it more comfortable on extended trips. The narrower bars on the /S make it harder to keep stable when pushing it around.?? PS, I'm 77 years young. Ted

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýIdentify cable length requirements before you commit to changing bars¡My ¡¯76 came to me with what I think are K75S bars. IIRC new oem throttle cables were mountable but the one on the right side can¡¯t be routed quite right so it¡¯s not as hidden as it should be, especially with the bars turned hard left. For this
I have shame ??

I have noticed the same over the past 5 years _ (now 73)? All my bikes seem heavier. my solution was the R9T and then modified it to be my updated R90s. My S is for special rides The R9T is much easier to ride and the ride height is lower. It seems balance is also the issue.? e.g. my Harley Deuce is a heavy bike but quite easy to ride as the seat is so low and I don't have to wrestle with a centre stand. my 2 cents Ted Cymbaly 75 R90S 2015 R9T 90 K1 95 K1100 78 R100 RS On Thu, Mar 10, 2022, 11:11 PM Mac Kirkpatrick, <drbeemer73@...> wrote:
