If you have the Enduralast 450 that is the best ignition to get. Easy to set up an the bike runs a lot better ? Now you are getting the timing directly off of the crank. I have installed about 12 of them an they work Great. ? Mike Kowal

I have been using the Boyer Brandsen on my ‘76 for 15 years. It wasn’t difficult to install, but you have to follow their modification to wiring to prevent run on. if I were to be buying a system today , I would probably get the Silent Hettick(sp?) which is driven from the crank, not the cam.

The points on my 75 SS have closed up twice over the last few years; and although it is a roadside correction, it's hard to perform in the dark.? I have read opinions recently on the virtues of stock points, with and without ignition booster vs pointless ignition. For those holding onto points, I bet it is a rare holdout driving a primary auto with points.? There is a reason point technology is obsolete. Mine is a looker but also a driver; and mostly stock. Stock performance is fine with me.
So I am inclined to abandon my points. I would like for those with experience with the various systems offered to opine on their relative virtues. I can go either with or without mechanical advance. Reliability and the ability to perform a simple roadside retrofit to stock setup in the event of e-ignition failure is important to me.
I appreciate your advice.

SOLD...Joe's K100/EML GT
? Joe Dille’s 86 K100/EML GT Sidecar Rig SOLD on Sunday. ? Jim, the new owner is from NY State; Joe was originally from White Plains, NY Jim is a mechanical engineer; Joe was a mechanical engineer Jim is a pilot; Joe was a pilot Jim has airhead BMWs, a R90S clone and sidecars; Joe had airhead BMWs, a real R90S and sidecars ? I think it went to a good home….all parties seemed very pleased.? There’s a good chance I will be delivering the bike to the new owner in Ithaca, NY.? Jim said if I ride the rig to Ithaca, he would fly me home to Harleysville.? I told him he had a deal and he doesn’t even have to land the plane, just provide me with a parachute…it’s been a few years, but it just like riding a bike. ? Thanks to everyone involved, there were about 12 parties interested in the sidecar, If Jim decided not to buy, there was another party from MD, who was ready to ride up on Sunday, immediately after Jim left.? It was a solid rig, Joe, Patti, the kids and dogs enjoyed it very much and Patti has many fond memories.? I think the new owner will do the same for many years to come….let’s hope so. ? If you have the time, please read the attached article above regarding what went into the decision to build an EML rig and all that was involved.? Patti forwarded that to me last week and I really enjoyed reading the article. Hard to believe, but Joe states that he had over 200 hours building and attaching the sidecar to his new 86 K100. It’s a really good story, I hope you enjoy reading. ? Todd P.S.? Big thank you to Bill Dudley for hosting and administering the Airhead mail lists and for forwarding this particular posting to the NY Airheads, which I neglected to do….Thanks Bill, hope you plan to attend our VBMWMO FALL RALLY.? 30 Sept. -3 October, much more info, stay tuned everyone. ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Thanks Todd, I just registered!
And for those who don't know, Todd is the head of our local BMW group and was the one who so generously helped me buy my 1975 R90S this week (I picked it up yesterday around 1:00pm and got home a little?bit after dark. For clarity, the bike was located 40 minutes from my house, so yes, I took the long way around. Had a grin on my face for 8 hours).
Thanks to everyone on this forum who has sent me their suggestions?for modifications. I look forward to meeting you in person at the Fall Rally!

by drilling holes in it and can’t carry much weight or cantilever way back to the rear. So I am avoiding them by just using the seat bag on the rear. To carry more,? I could strap a duffle bag on the seat instead of the seat bag, attaching to some bungee buddies
on the top of the side cases.? My setup allows enough luggage space for camping and long trips.
I converted the front turn signals to dual filament with running lights and added Hyperlights running/brake lights on their license plate mount. I am considering a headlight modulator as I’ve used them before and the work pretty well for added
front visibility without having non-stock looking conspicuency/driving lights. I installed an aluminum triple clamp top plate (I think from San Jose BMW) and new Progressive Suspension fork springs and new Ikon shocks.
That’s my current setup. Mostly stock looking with some increased conspicency and luggage capacity.
