Frank,
That moon landing thing was in 1968. Meaning the more technologically advance R90s was not yet invented, only a few prototypes may have been secretly used behind the Iron Curtain by CIA operatives. However, unlike most information needed to build a nuke, details have not yet been de-classified by the US Gov't. But when NASA finished the Apollo project, rumour has it that they went to work on syncronizing KZ1300 carbs in an underground research center in the Nevada desert.
over and out, Kirk

Just to clarify: I am looking for a pair of new or rebuilt carbs
because
the screws in mine are completely frozen, and I think that by the time I
have them drilled out, retapped, and then rebuild everything, I would be
better off just replacing them. The suggested UK website with new ones
looks good, although a bit expensive. Anyway, I appreciate all the
suggestions.

Have you tried old Beemer specialists like Darwin Classics (SF, CA) or Blue Moon (GA), odds are that they will have a used set in stock... as well as carry the re-build kits. Yeh, I agree that Motobins is expensive... it all depends how desperate you are. There is also a Del Orto importer in the US, I'll look and see if I can come accross thier address.

Pro Carb Shop in Belvidere, KS can supply parts and service for our carbs.
You can reach them at 316-862-7205 or Procarbshop@... .
I''ve had good dealings with them.
Bought their rebuild kit. All OEM parts for two carbs, about $120, I think
it was. They're the same guys who own the Bing parts outfit.

Hi Gary,
Del Orto stuff can be hard to find, why don't you rebuild them yourself
and
save a few bucks? A good source from the UK is www.motobins.co.uk they
sell
rebuild kits at 19.50 GBP or the complete enchillada for 139.00 (new).
Motobins is reliable, and a dedicated classic BMW shop, plus their site is
easy to navigate thru to find parts-

about the dellortos, i found that it is easy to get parts for it. they are
not that hard to rebuild. went down to Cobb's HD and BMW repair in Lorain. Mr
cobb (howard) explained to me that a lot of harley people change their
carburators and go the dellortos on the older bikes for better performance.
so i assume any harley shop would have them or moto guzzi. you can email my
son Ron, fastducati900@... and i believe he can give you the name of a
dealer in PA where he ordered his parts for his dellortos when he still had
his R90s. Ken

Hello group members,
From some time I have been keeping a list of classic BMW parts specialists, shops, painters, etc. - specifically /5 - /7 specialists. During the course of my considerable travels, I try to pay a call on as many as possible... you never know what treasure you might come accross somewhere. I would like to share this list with the Group, but first I would like to up date it with some more US based shops, (I think I have most of the European ones). Let me know... when the list is updated, I will post it for the group.

8th Grade Class Project - Cool and Important - Won't take long at all!

Please Help.

Hello! We are in the 8th grade at Alston Middle School in Summerville,
South Carolina. We are located in Dorchester County, just outside of
Charleston, South Carolina in Dorchester School District 2. Our social
studies teacher, Mrs. Joelle R. King, is helping us by using her e-mail
address as our e-mail receiver.

We have decided, after seeing this done at another school, to map an
e-mail
project. We are curious to see where in the world our e-mail will travel
via
the Internet, between the period of November 12, 2000 and February 12,
2001
(only 3 months). This is not a pen-pal project, so we will not write you
back (unless you request it).

We would like your help. If you receive this message, we ask that you:

1) e-mail back at scsstchr8@... and tell us your
city/state/location
so we can plot it on our map

AND

2) send this letter on to everyone you know so that they can send it on
to
everyone they know (and so on) to help us reach even more people. (We
don't
mind receiving repeats so send it on to everyone. We're tracking the
number
of responses we receive by making a graph in our math classes using the
numbers received by state.)

We will post our results on our school's web page after our deadline so
that
you can see how we did. With your help, we can make this a very fun and
exciting learning experience. PLEASE help us.

Thank you for any help you can give. Our e-mail address is:

Motorcycle Equipment Requirements Will Soon Change
by Wayne Holten
Nashville - While national and local attention was riveted on the developing
situation in Florida, Tennessee lawmakers quietly passed a controversial
bill directed at a tiny percentage of Tennessee's drivers. The bill,
sponsored by Senator Bill Clabough, is designed to increase the safety of
motorcyclists by requiring the use of additional safety equipment.

"It's really no different from requiring that all riders use a crash helmet,
or that their headlights are always on." commented Senator Clabough.

This legislation is unique in the United States although its supporters
claim that similar measures are in use in many parts of the world. Governor
Don Sundquist, who strongly supported the bill quipped, "It won't be long
until all the other states are requiring the same minimal standards."

Motorcycle enthusiasts disagree. A spokesman for the American Motorcyclists
Organization claimed that "This legislation is nothing more than an attempt
to flex [their] muscle. He's [Clabough] sore about all the heat he's been
getting because of the Koella fiasco."

They believe that because of pressure they have encouraged their membership
to put on Senator Clabough as well as Governor Don Sundquist, this
legislation is an attempt to strike back at the motorcycling community in
general. This confrontation began in 1996 when a motorcyclist was killed in
an accident involving the late Senator Carl A. Koella. Some motorcyclists
were unsatisfied with the court's verdict, in which Senator Koella was fined
$2,500 and sentenced to perform 30 days of community service. When Senator
Koella died later due to complications following heart surgery, a section of
highway was named after him. The bill which made this possible was
introduced by Senator Clabough and signed by Governor Don Sundquist.

The new legislation in question requires the use of headlight and brakelight
modulators on all motorcycles to be used in the state of Tennessee. Supporte
rs of this legislation point to statistical data which shows that
motorcyclists are often involved in accidents because drivers of automobiles
fail to see them and pull into their path. They believe that headlight
modulators, by continually varying the intensity of the headlight beam, draw
attention to motorcycles and save the lives of motorcyclists.

An additional requirement of this legislation is that all new motorcycles
manufactured for sale in the state of Tennessee following the 2001 model
year must be equipped with anti-lock braking systems.

Opponents of this bill point out that motorcyclists in surrounding states
will be unable to travel through the state of Tennessee on their way to
other states unless they have the requisite equipment installed on their
motorcycles. They also point to the additional cost of the new equipment,
claiming that the new equipment will in many cases exceed the cost of the
entire motorcycle being operated.

But proponents claim that similar differences between equipment requirements
from state to state have existed for many years. Some states require the use
of a helmet, some do not. But a motorcylist travelling through Tennessee
must wear a helmet whether his home state requires it or not. They also
assert that requiring the use of helmets is already considered appropriate
and purchasing such a helmet can cost several hundred dollars. "Three or
Four hundred dollars is a small price to pay if it will save a person's
life." Clabough stated.

The bill was signed into law by Governor Sundquist on December 5th. It will
go into effect the first of April, 2001.
