¿ªÔÆÌåÓýJames, I agree with you.The egg yoke arguably defines the 70s better, but Silver Smoke has always looked more classy to my eyes. Orange has come to represent the 70s and is way more popular now than in period.? There's probably more egg yoke R90Ss in existence now, than were ever originally built . . . . Re: HansA Muth Video About the R80G/S
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýActually it¡¯s Hans Albrecht Muth, but he always signs off HansA. ? Robert Lutz was the master mind, Hans was the designer who got everyone¡¯s attention and put BMW back on the map. ? ¡°The R90S handles and stops almost as well as the best Italian sportster; is almost as fast as the fastest Japanese road burner; almost as uncomplicated as the good old British twin; and almost as smooth as the best multi. When it comes to comfort, and capability for traveling at maximum speed with minimum fatigue, the R90S is second to none.¡± ? ? ? For the whole story: ? ? 2019 Rally Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the R80GS & R65LS, both were designed together in 1979 ? ? ? Todd Trumbore ? ? ? HansA Muth (yes it is spelled correctly :-) he is a designer :-) recently sent out a very nice video about how the R80G/S came about; he designed the R80G/S as well as the R90S, R100RS, the R65LS and more. ? It can be found here, at the Vintage BMW Motorcycle Owners website ? ? The "Modern" R80G/S you see painted red in the above video was brought from Germany and featured at the 40th Anniversary R80G/S-R65LS Rally which some of you attended, at Todd Trumbore's?house in eastern PA. Todd put on that fabulous rally as well as the ones for the R90S and R100RS. Lucky you were if you were able to attend those fabulous events ? You will also see Georg Martin featured in this video, he put together this modern red R80G/S with the crew from the 3 BMW motorcycle dealerships he and his two sons own in Germany, they are the largest BMW motorcycle dealer in Germany. See ? Note his collection of vintage BMW motorcycles in the background of the video! ? They will make the same modern R80G/S you see in the video, for anyone who wants one :-)? ? Enjoy!! ? ? Re: Thank you
BMR R90s Few days ago friends on one of my groups were discussing motorcycle diaries and Zen art of motorcycle repair. I love motorcycles. Especially the vintage bikes. There are so many stories that are connected to a bike and the rides we take on them. I look at motorcycles like a device.Meditation device. We struggle in the beginning of meditation. Mountain of thoughts arises and we struggle to just watch and not participate in the thoughts. Staying aloof. Same is the case with learning to ride a motorcycle. We aim to be able to ride it without having to deliberately attend the mechanics and techniques of doing so. And once this art is mastered, the act of riding a bike becomes second nature. There is no longer a need to do anything deliberately, forcefully. And the travel that was started from a thought reaches beyond thoughts and becomes a journey. It is no longer a mere travel, it becomes a journey. BMW R90s is my new found love. I relentlessly read all the books and material I could get my hands on about this beauty.? Bertha Benz supported Karl Benze with all her mind and heart, and boxer engines came into existence. A romanticising person like Karl finding a logical confederate like Bertha was magic. And this alliance on enchantment produced such powerful engines that it was also used in Aeroplanes. First intercity travel was made by Bertha Benz in the car that had a boxer engine. And she proved that long distance travel is possible in a motorcar. She made cars and engines practical and Benz also got the patent for cars. Bertha was the first person to do this in history, not only a woman.Due to many of such reasons, I felicitate the boxer engine as a wonder like Taj Mahal. A woman inspired a mad lover, and this world found a medium to see the world. Boxer engines are a symbol of their love. But there is an angle to this symbol which we need to have a look. Women give everything to man. Man takes everything. There were many women and men in my life. I have rode with them. I have met them in the abode of silence which lies beyond thoughts. I used to rent this place beyond right and wrong from Rumi, then found my own. It was an enchanted journey, serendipity.Women continued to give and men continued to take in this journey. I kept on watching like a medium, aloof, detached. The man in me took everything and the woman in me kept on giving, without me even knowing about it until now. Sometimes I could never give anything to men and sometimes women could never take anything. The insatiability persisted, in-spite of being one with both of them, physically and mentally. Kahil Gibran quotes well when he says that ¡° Lovers are the pillars of love¡± Only love prevails and lovers have to stand apart balancing the act of balancing love. Love becomes so strong that poor lovers look weak.Incomplete. This engine and that Taj Mahal are symbols of effort to complete all that is incomplete between lovers. These are the offsprings of the struggle between them. Like the Buddha's lotus is born out of filth and gates of heaven are seen by touching the wounds of Christ. I came across the Zen art of motorcycle maintenance in this journey of knowing more about BMW R90S. Robert Pirsing calls this place beyond thoughts, the source of quality of life. And this book is a memoir of the journey of reaching that destination.? And the second book that I liked is On The Move by Oliver sacks. Being a doctor and reading so much of medical terms in the book, felt a bit academic I confess. But he presents the reader with exploration of his sexuality through the journey he did on BMW R90. His point of view is mature. I never made an identity for my alternate sexuality, and never want to claim any. It is all natural, like Noval Harari points out. But I read something that piers the stereotypical image that is created by the media and tossed around in public conversations, for the first time. Felt original. And now I have found myself here in this group, in the company of R90 lovers. There are few groups where I speak so freely and openly. I hope this one turns out to be one. Daigo, Kolhapur **Thank you once again for welcoming me with an open heart and offering the help. On Tue, Nov 17, 2020 at 12:07 AM Mac Kirkpatrick <drbeemer73@...> wrote:

Re: back brakes
¿ªÔÆÌåÓý?First, you said ¡°must have gotten grease on them or something¡±, That leads to a whole lot of speculation, Do you see oil or grease elsewhere? It never just goes to the lining and no where else. Sometimes old brake shoes get burnished and need to roughened up. This was typical for these bikes. The test for oil soaked brake shoes is to observe the color and then clean them. After, take something sharp and scratch the surface. If in a little while the darker color appears in the scratch then, yes oil soaked it is, and replace them.

Doug, Once brake shoes have been fouled by grease or oil you should replace them.? Ted
