Locked EZ Clutch Pull From Bench Mark Works

A while back I posted how much I really like the EZ Clutch pull I got from Bench Mark Works, basically it works just like an off road snatch block, where the load is halved but the length of pull is doubled, so you get a much easier but longer clutch pull, which works just fine.

WELL I just learned that due to the clutch pull being so much easier, the clutch cable will therefore last a great deal longer as it is not pulled nearly so hard!

A bonus for sure :-)

Frank,

Assuming the 1976 exchange rate between the US dollar and the 1976 AU dollar is similar to today's exchange rate the prices may be the same.

The Australian dollar has, like the USA dollar, had a lot of inflation over the years.?? The inflation amount is different though.? Australia had a period of particularly high inflation.??
If the bike was re-issued and being sold today for the equivalent price, then Aus 3595, …..would be about Aus 65000 now….from a quick glance at:

I did not bother to look up the USA figure.

I have purchased a few new BMW Airheads (four, plus one with only 560 miles), and I think I paid 1450 USD for a brand-new R75/5 from a dealership…. and about 5300 USD for a brand-new early eighties R100RT.
Inflation is a big mixed bag.

For used bikes, especially rare and desirable models in good condition (let alone fully restored), the equivalent inflation rate is….辞谤 can be…. monstrous.? I can't hardly believe what my old Vincents (I had eight, once upon a time) and my Brough, are worth now.? Mark, I did see your email and typed a draft response. I've mainly had problems with my R69S conversion and a friend and I have been working on it for several days, we just and I mean just got back home from taking the bike to a friend who worked on BMWs for years and I think we got one main problem solved.
I know what I want to do for you, just need to coordinate what I want to do with our CIO/webmaster. I will get back with you shortly, likely later?today.

Hi Rob,

I talked to Matt at Euro Motoelectric and he said the ones I have in the bike are fine. He has an R75/5 himself and put this system in with the stock coils and he says it works great.

Thanks,
Scott.

Locked Re: Bad Stumble below 3000 RPM after Brief Stop

Call the Dyna Tech Rep and verify you have the proper coils installed.? When my bike was changed over to electronic ignition, the installer left the old coils in place or they were put in later. I was told the EI needs coils with significantly lower resistance than point ignition and the coils were not saturating. New, low resistance coils solved the problem.

Finally got some time to look at the bike. I pulled both plug leads an did a quick check. Both leads were showing next to "0" resistance. I bent and folded the leads while checking to see if there was an issue i.e. change in the reading, and there wasn't.

The 1K plug caps showed LH: 970 and RH: 1030.

I checked both coils as well:
LH - Primary: 1.1 - 1.2, Secondary: 12.3
RH - Primary: 1.1 - 1.2, Secondary 12.85

I will order new leads from Euro Motoelectrics with the 5K Caps, as I've read they are a good way to go. I'm also looking at getting the Digital Ignition System they offer. Not sure if this is a good upgrade or not, but I have a similar optical type in my R69S and it's been great.

With being in Canada and Covid, it will be a bit befor the new plug leads arrive, but I'll update when they get here.

Scott.

Locked Re: Dellorto Float Bowl Nut - Leaking after Check

Hey Scott,

I did the same thing recently, pulled the nut from the bottom and also removed the float bowl to wipe the bottom.? When I put the bowls back on both sides were leaking.? So, I pulled them yet a second time and inspected the very thin rubber washer that goes around the perimeter around the top.? Sure enough I had squeezed the washer out of the track it was in and somewhat crushed it in the wrong place.? I was careful to put the washer back in it's track after checking for damage.? Fortunately even though I pinched them, neither had broken.? Once I carefully returned to place and installed... leak fixed!? Give that a shot.? Perhaps that's your cure.

Scott

Scott,
My experience is that:
1 — Use the fiber washer
2 — It’s easy to cross thread the nuts. Look closely to make sure you have started them correctly. Might require a little fiddling. I seem to always one that leaks the first time reinstalling the float bowls.
3 — Some times the float bowl is not seated well on the gasket. Again, look closely to sure you have it seated correctly. Again, might require a little fiddling.
4 — I don’t believe there is a torque spec. Snug should be OK.
5 — No Hylomar or any sealant needed.

Others may have more experience than me and have other suggestions.

?As part of a diagnostic from my other thread, I pulled the float bowls to see if there was any unexpected bits. The good news is there was not.

When I removed the 17mm nut there was an aluminum crush washer - the same as the one used on the engine oil drain plug, being used as a washer. The Dellorto rebuild kit I have has the fiber washers, so I used those to reseal the nut. However, both float bowl nuts are now leaking. I checked to confirm the leak was not coming from the top of the float bowl.

Question, what torque value should be used to tighten this nut? I have it as tight as I feel comfortable going. My worry is if I go tighter it will strip. Should I be switching to the aluminum washers? Would Hylomar Blue be a good option for these, or is there another recommendation?

Thanks,
Scott
