OccultWatcher with last prediction ?
4
Hello, I remark the following ... OccultWatcher shows me some events in the shadow path, but OWCloud shows most of the time a different path (no more in the shadow). When does OccultWatcher actualise the data ? I expect that it uses the same information ... or at least after a manual update. But it is not the case. Here an example ... in OccultWatcher: "I'm in" ... in OWCloud: "I'm out". In the file "prediction_1", that is an old prediction (it seems that what OccultWatcher uses) and in "prediction_2", that is the last prediction. Regards, Jean-Francois

WAT-3500
Correction - I just checked my email and I misremembered the date. The date that was given to me for expected availability of the 3500 is September/October, not December. Sorry for the confusion. So it's possible they will be available soon. Ted B.

Moving OW to another computer

I want to move my installation of OW to another computer. Do I need to do a new installation or is there an easier way. I would like to keep all my settings, if possible, so if settings can be copied, that would be a suitable solution. Vince

Old event not showing up.
4
I found an event that was a miss for me but I never submitted the results. I did, though, report it as a miss. I wanted to view the event in OW so that I could re-report it as a miss so that it could created the excel file for the event. I changed the past reporting days to cover the date of the event, but It doesn't show up once the analysis is complete. The event is in OWC and shows that I reported it as a miss. Other past events that I observed show up, but not the one I'm trying to recover. Am I doing something incorrectly? Vince

I have a problem about synchronizing

I clicked "synchronise now", but it keeps failing to update with the messages "Error Updating". Is there any way to solve this problem?

OWC servers down?

I cannot get to OWC for tonight's event with asteroid Dunham. Internet connection seems to be fine. "Show online map" no longer includes the words "with stations". Thanks, Ted B

Occultation event from OccultWatcher to SharpCap and more ...
2
Hello, It is time to release my SharpCap script and my Addin for OccultWatcher. Unfortunately, I have no "real" occultation event during the very short period with clear sky in the past 4 weeks. I tested a lot my script inside. Only on rare occasion outside. Several conditions are necessary: - update OccultWatcher with the last version 5.2.0 (if not already done automatically) - download the last beta version 4.1 of SharpCap (my script work only with the version 4.1.10652.0 or later) - I guess that you need the ASCOM 6.5 or above (I'm not 100% sure for that) Unzip the ZIP somewhere on your computer. Open the PDF document ... and start to read it. For the use ... you can connect SharpCap with the ASCOM Telescope Simulator and you can use the Sky-Simulator for testing the GOTO and PlateSolve functions. The script can work with any telescope that can be connected to SharpCap. I tested with my EQ8 with SynScan and GSS. And I tested with my old Meade LXD75 mount. The script is written for the QHY-174 GPS camera, but it should be possible to use it with any other camera (clear that the GPS function will not work). If you have no EAGLE computer, then you can modify the line 81 to "EAGLE = False", that will speed up the start of the script. Best regards, Jean-Francois

Graphic view of the event in OW
11
Hello Hristo, I have a proposal for a simple graphic showing all the event quickly with the local horizon directly in OccultWatcher. I have the problem that now near all the events are blocked by the next house. Here the events for my home station for June. I tried to export all the event in Excel format ... but the important information is missing ... no star azimuth or elevation are exported from OccultWatcher to Excel. Alternative ... I could update my Add-in with a new function .... so is it a way in OccultWatcher for an Add-in to select all the events ? Regards, Jean-Fran?ois

Spreadsheet file location
2
How does OW know which Excel spreadsheet file to use when generating "report observation" ? I was going through some folders and found a file called "NorthAmerica_AstReportForm_V5.6.11.xls", but it isn't in the OW folders. Vince

OWC location is offset when exact is specified.
3
Hi Hristo, I notice my exact locations displayed in OW are offset in OWC, When i add a new location in OWC and specify exact, then the station continues to be offset on OWC. (but correct in OW). Is there a away of getting OWC to display the exact station locations ? This would be helpful for mobile observers setting up a fence (say). A mobile phone would show the actual locations. An idea: I note that the locations are offset when not logged in. Perhaps the exact locations could be displayed using a login as a switch that authenticates the observer. That would preserve the location anonymity when a login is not supplied. (if that makes sense). Thanks Tim

An OW KML issue or PINK/BLUE rending issue.
3
I am working with event (7852) Itsukushima occults UCAC4 339-105616 occurring on 12 May, 06:25:59. I had selected a mobile location from which to observe it, but it turns out that I had to change locations. This isn't anything new for me. To facilitate the change, I cancelled all stations for the event and then selected a new location using "Add to my events". This new location is closer to the center line than the original location. After adding the event, OW refreshes and displays The station locations on the pink/blue overhead view. When I use the "Save 'Google earth' kml file" feature, the following is displayed in Google Earth. In OW, the big black bar is my Home location which looks correct on the pink/blue chart, near the southern, but the new location of the mobile site is nowhere close to where it is suppose to be. the kml rendering shows the location to be just south of center line, but the pink/blue chart in OW shows it well to the north of the center line. I triple checked the Long/Lat/Elev in both the placemark in Google Earth and the site coordinates in OW and they match (OW stores the long/lat only to 5 decimal places whereas Google Earth store them to 6). I restarted OW and the behavior is the same. I then clicked on "Show online map with stations" and this is what is displayed. My site is in the correct location, but the pink/blue, as it is in OW doesn't place my site in the correct place. Is this part of the new feature of OWC? the "white line seems to be match the location where the pink/blue (i don't know what this is called) shows it. So many questions. Do I have to consider the White line when attempting to decide on where to observe? The save kml feature of OW doesn't show the white line. will OW have that feature soon? I have updated all my OW sites to include the elevation from Google Earth. The elevation corrections are a good thing, but everything needs to be synced in order to make event planning more accurate. GMail and OccultWatcher
Hi David, all, I made a change today thay may have fixed the issue with GMail rejecting OW's emails. If some of you with gmail accounts start receiving emails again, please let me know. Hristo. I've been trying to get emails be sent to gmail users but looks like still no luck. Easiest way out is to use an email address that is not in GMAIL As the email messages are returned without explanation why this is done I can only guess and so far my guessing appears to not have been correct. I added DMARC, MXE and SPL domain entries for the domain - still not working. occultwatcher.net has been blacklisted in one list (which is added and removed automatically) and I have no control over that. Wondering if this is because the name contains the word 'occult'... I have no idea what GMail does to protect you from spam, phishing etc, and they won't tell me. I could also manually reset your password. Send me a direct email for this. Hristo. [OWCloud] OccultWatcher & OWC Update - Phase 1 for Altitude Corrections
OWC update has been now released. A few notes on how the plot works right now in Phase 1. The shadow path (green, blue and red lines) are non-elevation corrected. The telescopes are the actual locations of the submitted stations. The chords (while or orange lines) for newly submitted stations are the elevation corrected chord relative to the path of the shadow. After selecting a location on the GoogleMaps OWC will obtain the elevation for the location and then will draw two white lines as per the image below. The white coord will be where the actual position is going to be related to the path, in the image below while the selected location is close to the non-elevation corrected center line (green line) the elevation corrected path puts the location outside of the shadow (between blue and red lines): The position of the chord on the OW Plot will correspond to the elevation corrected chord. See how on the plot below the chord is in the 1-sigma zone: The altitude can be also manually entered or updated which will cause the chord to be updated, too. I hope that all this makes sense. In phase 2 the entire path will be elevation corrected and the chords will run through the selected location, while the shadow path will be moved accordinly. So once Phase 2 is released, for the above example the while chord line will run through the telescope and the green line (and rest of the path) will be shifted to the lower right, leaving the white cord path again between the elevation corrected blue and red shadow lines. Please note that all current chords submitted before this version will not be elevation corrected so the elevation correction for planning should be considered functional only for future stations. Hristo. Add to my events doesn't default to what I would like it so show.
2
When I right click on an event and select a saved site location, a dialog appears. The "Site name" field defaults to my home location. I would rather it default to the "Site Location" so that it will appear on the icon on the path graphic when I hover over it. I think this value is also used to populate the location in the phone app. I tend to forget that I have to manually change it and then I forget later where I am observing from. If there is another configuration setting that will do this for me, I haven't found it. Vince

New user question about the "colored lines" on Event Prediction screen
3
I am gonna try to capture the "Zelinda" occultation tonight (2023-04-27 00:39:54). My location on the attached screenshot is the yellow circle to the left of the "N" in New York. Can someone point me to documentation that explains these lines. Even a quick description of my chances for this event would be very helpful. I will be trying the Dynamene event the following day also. thanks Steve H

SODIS + OccultWatcher + SharpCap = new scripts for occultation events
Hello, Here a short preview of the future OccultWatcher Addin and the SharpCap script. I'm still programming the "capture" part, but you can see in the PDF the actual status of my codes. Please send me your comments and ideas (if it is not too complicated to add, I will add it if it simplify the preparation and the capture of the occultation events). One "new" idea I have is to add a "voice" in my script. I found how to do. Part OccultWatcher Addin: The Addin is finished ... but it needs an small update of OccultWatcher. I received a beta version from Hristo. It will be necessary to wait until this new version of OccultWatcher is released. Part SharpCap scripts: First I write the codes of the script for the future version 4.1 (some changes in ASCOM). The beta 4.1 version is working properly, but it is still not an official released version. In addition, I updated my LED_Calibration script that can be started in the new "Occultation" script. Regards, Jean-Francois
