Re: personal feed file not working

I could not reproduce the problem to match the screenshot you sent i.e. a broken GoogleMap. However the GoogleMap I get does not allow selecting a site which is not my home location.

I fotgot now if this was intended or not i.e. whether by design users can or cannot use the GoogleMap to choose a site for Personal Predictions, may be not.

Personal Predictions are meant for observations from a fixed location and they are meant to be personal i.e. not to be shared with others. I know that this is not how people are using them but this is another story.

Are you interested in publishing predictions that are to be shared with other people?

The main idea of publishing preductions is find events which are somewhat special and have not been included in other feeds. So some questions to ask are:

- Why the events you have found are not included in other feeds
- If this is because they are somehow different or special, how is that?

OWC has an option for tagging events with 'community tags' that can be done by everyone that could be used for sharing events.

I am still trying to figure out what to do with Personal Predictions so understanding why you are generating personal predictions in first place will help me make a better decision for the long run.

Hristo.

Re: personal feed file not working

What is the name of the object? In very rate cases funny characters in the name could break the HTML and cause something like that.

Can you send me your file generated by Occult to have a look at other potential problems?

The Personal Prediction feed is working, but there seems to be an issue with the "show online map with stations" popup when viewing a "Personal Prediction" event.

The map extends to the extent of the popup and the the data at the bottom of the screen does not appear. The horizontal? path graph appears but it is not rendered correctly.

See Hristo¡¯s comment.? Now that you have created the Personal folder, close OccultWatcher (quit it),? restart it and then click on the feed and synchronize and see if it is now working.? Good luck.

Tony,

There wasn't a folder called "Personal" under the OW folder, so I created one. I then copied the subset file for OW.dat file from Occult to the Personal folder in OW.?

My instance of OW doesn't have a "Personal Predictions" feed on the menu. How/where do I enable/add this entry?

V

Re: personal feed file not working

You need to have the folder created before you can enable the feed in OW.

You may need to restart OW.

Vince,

I have not seen a response, so I will take a crack at it:

  1. You create your "Personal OW feed" in Occult.? Save this file to the Personal folder in OccultWatcher folder
  2. Once the file is saved, you can open the OW Configuration/Prediction Feed page.? Scroll down to:

Check the box ¡°Personal Predictions¡±

  1. Right click on Personal Predictions and then click on Synchronize.? Close and press OK.? Your OW will now synchronize to the Personal predictions you placed in the OccultWatcher Personal folder.

?

Good luck!

I posted this on the IOTA forum but it probably belongs here...

I ran Occult and saved a list of events by selecting "Personal OW feed" from the FILE menu.

I resynchronized OW but they didn't show up.
I checked "LinOccult Personal Predictions" in the prediction feed tab but still nothing.

what am I missing?
Does OW know where to look for the file or do I have to copy it somewhere? Where is the file stored, BTW.

OccultWatcher to move large part of search and sign-up functionality to the web (OWC), within 1 year

This seems to be a push from Google to phase out all 'old style' desktop apps that use an embedded browser control:

I have 1 year to replace OW Desktop's GoogleMap with a pure web version i.e. on OWC.

There is nothing else I can do and in Aug 2022 OW's old style GoogleMap will stop working. Until I release a full web version of OccultWatcher you also have no other choice but to press 'Dismiss'.

I will try to keep as much as possible in the Desktop version of OW as some features cannot be moved to the web (all add-ins and Occult interaction for example) but I see that a year from now the vast majority (possibly all) of the event searching and sign-up functionality will be only available in a web browser.

In the end I think this is good news for non-Windows users but will surely cause some disruption.

Hristo.

Did you use Android or iOS version of OW Mobile to report the observations?

It looks like OW is not handling well the case where the initial report was done from OW Mobile.

Possible bug

I deleted a future event? a couple of weeks ago and today I restored the deleted events.
When the screen refreshed, I added the event to "My Events" and now OW shows an additional entry for the event in "My Events".

Re: Suggestion for a new feature

Thanks Hristo. The hide feature seems to work well.

Regarding filters, I have my filters set to show many more events than I actuially observe. Here's an example of why...

If there's a difficult event (low altitude, dim target, low probability, low mag drop etc.) at 4am I would normally reject it because it's a lot of effort which will probably be wasted.
However, if there's also an easy event 20 minutes before the difficult one, then I'll probably attempt both, as I'll already be awake and have all my equipment running. So it's not much extra effort to observe the difficult event.

That's why I don't filter out those difficult ones, but only reject them after looking at them in the context of the other events in my feed.
