Re: "Calibration was not succesful"
开云体育Joan, this a good summary. It is possible to use dark video or dark frame subtraction in
TANGRA , but this is not a typical procedure.? If you have a new
camera, there shouldn't be many hot pixels to worry about.?? Hot
weather will introduce more noise it is true, as the camera is
running about 10 degrees above ambient (im guessing a bit here).
For video data submitted for publication and research, its
possible to convert AVI or AAV to FITS, and then some additional
image procession is possible. If you are new to occultation work, the next step is decide how
you will introduce the frame time stamps but i expect you already
have this set up. The IOTA-VTI is one possibility, or in Europe the GPSBOXSPRITE3.? Familiarity with OccultWatcher is desirable of course, as it will provide the asteroid predictions of most interest to you.?? If you are observing Lunar Occs, you will want to establish the Coordinator for your region so you can report timings. I would suggest contacting? /g/IOTAoccultations
and someone will reply.? Tim On 25/04/2022 16:34, Astropriorat wrote:

Re: "Calibration was not succesful"
Tim,
In the meantime I'm waiting for a window of good weather I have compiled a series of indications from different sources about video astronomy occultations and I would be grateful to know your opinion. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For asteroid occultation's it is recommended to use the initial camera settings described below and control the camera with two manually settings: The "SHUTTER" exposure and the "AGC" gain, according to the magnitude and conditions of the target object. WAT-910HX/RC EIA? Initial Camera SettingsTo access settings; Press "enter" and select "Exposure" at the small camera keypad ? Settings for Occultations are: SHUTTER = adjust between x2 to x256, Exposure Index, 1/50th, 1/250th and shorter. AGC: Set it to maximum of ?41 dB ?or ?adjust manually between 6 to 41 dB. ? Most (indeed all) advanced setting should be turned off for occultation video. The most important controls set to OFF are: SENS UP: auto exposure OFF SHARPNESS = 0 [ default is 4 ] 3DNR : Dynamic noise reduction OFF GAMMA: Set to 1 IMAGE REVERSAL is a useful function if you are using right-angled viewers. ? ? * NOTES: - Use Dark Frame subtraction, also possible on the fly. - For Asteroid Occultations, use x2 (0.04), x4 (0.08), x8 (0.16), x16 (0.32). Longer exposure will be needed for faint object or smaller telescope aperture. -In longer exposures “hot pixels” shall appear. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Some words to add, correct or erase for above? I'm trying to understand video astronomy concepts (not easy by now). Thank you for your patience! Joan |
Re: "Calibration was not succesful"
And to add, i would use the maximum gain of 41dB.? I expect you have the automatic camera gain and exposure settings set to off.? ?There are recommendation on the use of WAT-910HX on the IOTA occultations? groups.io? ?which i suggest you join if you have not already done so? ;-) (Oxfordshire, UK) |
Re: "Calibration was not succesful"
Joan, I think the problem is the dark image.? The frames need to be exposed.? ?Hristo has some notes here:?http://www.hristopavlov.net/OccuRec/IntegrationDetection.html The WAT910HX/RC settings are the number of fields (not frames)?? x2 fields = 1 frame, and x8 fields = 4 frames.?? So when the calibration asks for 4 frames then set the camera control to x8.? Im sure someone will jump in if i'm incorrect. Tim |
Re: "Calibration was not succesful"
开云体育Yes, I was doing the calibration on dark field with the dome closed, just as an initial testing before the real occultation. This multiply factor of 2x for this camera means that "normal" shutter steps from 2x to 256x are in fact 4x to 512x ? Thank you for your help! Joan ?

Re: "Calibration was not succesful"
Joan,? Just some thoughts on the matter:? I say this just in case you are are trying to calibrate on a dark field, when i don't think it will work.? I have fallen into that trap and been advised.? ?Also 4 frames is x8 on the WAT910HX - again something else to be aware of and another possible trap for newcomers (like me).? |

The picture shows a VTI that is set to PAL mode. ?(The label on the circuit board is reversed.) ?Off is PAL, ON is NTSC.? Flip that switch to ON, reboot the VTI, and everything should work with your NTSC camera.? Ted B.? On Sat, Apr 23, 2022 at 2:19 AM Astropriorat <info@...> wrote: Hi, |
Re: "Calibration was not succesful"
Hi,
- The UK shop of the WATEC confirms that's a NTSC mode camera. - The installed Occurec is at V3.3 BETA.? The computer OS is WIN7 Pro Looking into the VTI-v3 seems also settled for NTSC, please check the attached image. As an alternative the IOTA capture 2.2 software has been installed and seems to run fine. Any idea for fix this issue? Thank you Joan |

Re: "Calibration was not succesful"
Hi, ? the EIA corresponds to NTSC (US standard). So if everything in the chain is set and work as NTSC (which under all provided info seems to be fulfilled), calibration should work in Occurec if you have the latest version 3.3.1. ? Older version v3.3.0 (2019-09-13) states (beside other things) ? Otherwise I'm at the end now with any other explanation, sorry :-( I don't have now any usable HW available to test the situation. ? jan ? ______________________________________________________________ Hi, The exact camera reference is a WATEC-910HX/RC EIA? and to be sure about it today I sent a question to the UK dealer.
