Hi Richard. Thanks for the quick response. I appreciate the time and effort you put in to give me a very detailed step by step of your workflow. It really helps me to get a better understanding of what's necessary for me to move forward. Once again, thank?you for your time?and?efforts, Steve On Tue, Jan 23, 2024 at 12:25?AM Richard <rmille64@...> wrote:

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýSteve, ? I went to the ASCOM site and download Peter¡¯s 32-bit driver for ServoCAT and installed it on the NUC. ? Stellarium also runs on the NUC and uses Peter¡¯s ASCOM driver to control the telescope.? ? The workflow for a night of remote observation is: ?

Re: M74 10 second exposure 10 stacks with UC18 and DS10cTEC
Hi Richard. So:
The AN/SC is attached to an ASCOM driver independent of the of the Eagle4S and NUC also running through the ASCOM driver? That's how you switch between the two star alignment needed to run the AN/SC and the Eagle and NUC to use the Mallincam software , the camera and MS remote control (after the two star alignment)? Whose ASCOM driver do you use? Bear with me, the 'lightbulb over my head' is flickering. Steve |
Re: Classic Obsession wood maintenance
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThanks! I¡¯m the original owner of mine, purchased in 2009. In Oregon there was enough ambient humidity but here in Arizona I worry about the wood drying out. I¡¯ll probably just wax it for now On Jan 21, 2024, at 5:17?PM, Josh Sehn <joshsehn@...> wrote:

Re: Classic Obsession wood maintenance
Hello, I also have a 20" f5 classic, and I have had it for almost 10 years. I only use it 3-4 times a year, typically for about a week each time. In the late fall, we typically get LOTS of dew overnight.
I do find I have to wipe?excess moisture off the scope in the morning. I usually only see any moisture accumulating after really cold night sessions in late fall. I do like to leave it in the sun to let it air dry, before packing it away.? We do live in a fairly?dry climate so moisture isn't typically a concern. Although it might not be the?best idea, I haven't felt the need to do anything special besides wiping or blowing off excess dust buildup and I do gently wash the mirror once every several years, but only if the?dust buildup on the mirror starts to bother my?OCD. The scope is almost 30 years old so I am planning on getting the mirror recoated one of these winters. Otherwise, I do almost?nothing, and IMO the scope still looks the same as it did when I bought it. :-) Just my experience. Thanks! The saddest thing is that J&J is no longer made. I have some (Amateur Woodworker) but need to find a substitute

Dave has historically recommended an annual or bi-annual coating of wood wax. Ive used Johnson and Johnson once a year. I do it in the garage on a mild day and let it dry/air out.

Cocoon Nebula via UC18 from my recliner
Remote observing with my UC18, ServoCAT and Argo Navis using "From Planetarium" mode on the Argo Navis.
An Eagle4S mounted on the UC18 runs all the software and allows a distant/remote laptop (on the same home network) to use MS Remote Desktop and control the telescope (slew, focus, change filters, control the camera, store all the camera setting in a database, read the weather station and SQM) from the recliner on the big screen TV. Re: UC18 with Mallincam DS287c and some post processing of M100
Mark,
The cool thing about the Mallincam SkyRaider family of cameras is that the back focus is only 17.5mm.? I can achieve focus and still have about 3/4" of focus travel left over.? I did not have to change anything.? Just insert the camera and start my remote dob astrophotography (after 2-star alignment and the focus exercise with the mask).?? ? My UC18 has brackets to secure the truss poles on the VMB and I did design a new set of brackets just in case that were 1" shorter.? But they were not needed so they were never built.? I designed the shorter brackets in eMachineShop.com (free cad).? With an extra set of shorter brackets, you don't have to permanently change the telescope. Richard |
Re: UC18 with Mallincam DS287c and some post processing of M100
Richard:
Thanks so much. Second question. I assume you've cut down a set of poles to allow for sufficient infocus. Obviously that will change your focal length, correct? I'm new to imaging (tho I've had cameras for a while) especially to using my Obsession for this. Just looking to get the basics correct so as to not have to re-do things.
