Sparks Thursday, 2018
Light power move at the Sparks, Nevada depot. Sparks is east Reno, where the SP/UP yard is. There is an old joke, Reno is so close to Hell that on a clear day you can see Sparks. 27 Oct 2018 Mike Tisdale

For Sunday, Amtrak 160, 2022
I photographed the eastbound California Zephyr at Applegate California in 19 Oct 2022 and noticed that it had heritage unit 160, the Pepsi Can scheme P42, leading. Thoughts of doing something else after shooting the Zephyr went by the wayside and I folloed it up the mountain, getting more photos at Dutch Flat, Emigrant Gap and Soda Springs. Rather than drive like an idiot and see the train go by as I tried to get out of the car, I took it easy and shot it at locations far enough apart that I could get set up before the train arrived. Cook's timetables - what to do?
4
Mike, From various personal and business trips to Europe, I have a decent collection of Cook¡¯s timetables. Not sure what to do with them when we move/downsize in a year or two. I also remember reading Bridge Too Far when I was a teenager. My parents were war refugees, so I used to read a lot of European history books. Phil From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Mike Tisdale via groups.io Sent: Wednesday, October 5, 2022 10:00 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [ObservationCar] Dutch Wednesday, 1980 Good to hear from you, Phil. Yeah, that was my only trip to the Netherlands. For some reason, I decided to see the Bridge Too Far at Arnhem. I must have seen the movie recently or something. So after a night in a hostel and then doing my laundry in a laundromat, I used my Cook's timetable to figure out how to get to Arnhem, saw the bridge and I'm not sure what else. I came in on the Rheingold from Switzerland and left on an overnight train to Munich. Sunrise Thursday, 1990s
Morning Capitol with F59PHI 2002 at Roseville, California. This was in the mid-1990s between the delivery of the F59s and the delivery of the California cars. I was taking the train to the Bay Area for something, maybe a trade show for work. Mike Tisdale

Oberwessel Monday, 1984
111 127-7 leads a shorter than normal IC at Oberwessel. The 111 is in the paint scheme of the Ruhr regional service, which is a bit reminiscent of the old WP scheme. This was the only time I saw a 111 leading an IC train along the Rhein. Usually ICs had 103s. DB ran 110s and 112s on ICs for the short run between Frankfurt and Wiesbaen, where there were reversals at both stations. 11 Sept 1984 Mike Tisdale

Elvas Thursday, 2012
BNSF local northbound Elvas, Sacramento, California 31 Aug 2012 GE B40-8W and EMD GP60M The train has trackage rights on Union Pacific from Stockton to Sacramento, allowing it to use UP track to reach customers in Sacramento. Before the UP takeover the SP, ATSF and BNSF considered the Central California Traction Company to be their friendly connecting road between Sacramento and Stockton, allowing the Santa Fe to serve Sacramento indirectly via the CCT. After the UP-SP merger, BNSF got trackage rights on the UP lines in the area and started running their own train to Sacramento on UP's Fresno Sub (ex-SP) and the CCT is out of service north of Lodi.
