Cook's timetables - what to do?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Mike,

?

From various personal and business trips to Europe, I have a decent collection of Cook¡¯s timetables.? Not sure what to do with them when we move/downsize in a year or two.

?

I also remember reading Bridge Too Far when I was a teenager.? My parents were war refugees, so I used to read a lot of European history books.

Good to hear from you, Phil.

?

Yeah, that was my only trip to the Netherlands.??

?

For some reason, I decided to see the Bridge Too Far at Arnhem.? I must have seen the movie recently or something.? So after a night in a hostel and then doing my laundry in a laundromat, I used my Cook's timetable to figure out how to get to Arnhem, saw the bridge and I'm not sure what else.??

?

I came in on the Rheingold from Switzerland and left on an overnight train to Munich.

Mike,

I was in Amsterdam only once, many years ago.? Between the museums, the canals, the tram lines, and the Heineken brewery there is lots do to there.

I only had one day in the Netherlands on my 1980 trip, but I would like to go back. Lots of trains to see, as well as the country.

As Bill says, I hope someone would want the Cook's timetables.? ?The CSRM has a pretty good collection of Official Guides.? I find my Guides to be fascinating insights on the history of US railroads.? ?

Cook's crammed a lot into their timetables and they were wonderful for figuring out where to go and how to get there when I was in Europe.? I know that today, we have on line resources, but the ability to look at a map and then go to the timetable listed to find when a train would go works better for me.??

Then again, if you asked me to name all the states or countries of Europe in alphabetical order, I'd probably miss some, but I could fill in a map of either pretty well.

FWIW, the trick is finding an institution that takes overseas material. CSRM only accepts material from North America. I believe Mexico is the cutoff.

I answered Phil off-line. The institution I am thinking of got backlogged due to COVID and staff turnover.
