very unusual train on NYC RR in 1930(?)
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýA few months ago someone (Mike T?) said that it was unusual to see a train not pulled by a locomotive.? I¡¯m doing this from memory, so I hope I didn¡¯t misquote. ? A friend sent me the photo below.? Classic view of NYC steam, but look at the train.? Behind the gondola are 10 cars destined for the new ¡°IND¡± New York subway system, followed by the caboose.? Probably built by American Car and Foundry, St. Charles, MO. ? Phil Burton ?

I can't positively ID these cars. Are they BMT standards?

Phil, do we know the location for this photograph on the Central, or at least what line or division?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDave, ? I emailed the guy who sent me this photo.? He doesn¡¯t know about location, etc.? He likes to grab old photos from a lot of rail and non-rail sites, and he assembles them into folders and he has a large collection.? I imagine the original sites vary a lot with respect to photo info, date, etc. ? However, I can be sure that the destination was New York City or nearby.? These cars were delivered to a yard in Manhattan on 207th Street.? ? The cars in this photo were probably moved by car float to the yard. ? Phil ? Phil, the heavy code lines suggest that this may be commuter territory.? However, no evidence of third rail, hence my question.? West Shore, such as Dumont, heading for Weehawken for a car float operation?
Harlem Division, west of North White Plains? Hudson Division, west of Croton North?
Those would seem to be the choices.
Thanks,
Dave Saums.
