Kelani Valley Thursday, 1980
February 13, 1980?? Kelani Valley Line J1a 4-6-4T 264 switching at Maradana station, in Colombo, Sri Lanka. 13 Feb 1980. The Kelani Valley Line goes east from Colombo and was 2' 6" gauge when we were there in 1980, with a mix of steam and diesel engines powering trains of wooden coaches. The line has since been broad gauged. We had gotten a cab ride on this engine from Dematagoda shed back to Maradana station and I got a photo of the crew, which I made prints of and sent to someone at the railway to give to the crew.? ¡ª in Colombo, Sri Lanka. This is the west end of the F Line that runs on Market to the Embarcadero at the Ferry Building and then along the Embarcadero to Fishermen's Wharf. Historic cars are used on the line, and it is a tourist attraction, but toward the west end of Market, it is also used by a lot of locals. Mike Tisdale |

11 Dec 2021 San Jose, California 3 generations of passenger train locomotives from two train operators. On the left is Caltrain EMD F40PH 906, which is about to leave on a commute train to San Francisco. In the middle is Amtrak California Siemens SC-44 2102, which arrived earlier with a Capitol Corridor train from Sacramento. On the right is Amtrak California EMD F59PHI 2004, which has just arrived with Capitol Corridor train 729 from Auburn and Sacramento. The westbound Zephyr was very late and didn't get in until after dark. We saw #6 from our hotel room. The tank at Los Pinos, Colorado with the horseshoe curve at the end of the valley visible in the distance below the photographers set up on the shoulder of Highway 17. Front Window Wednesday, 2012
3 Dec 2012, San Francisco, 4th Street station, this mom and boy rode the whole way to SF watching out the front window of the train. She says they do this once a week.
This is Caltrain in push mode.
In years past, this San Francisco-San Jose commuter service was run by Southern Pacific.

Thank you, Phil. I was at the Stockton diamonds, where UP going north-south crosses BNSF going east-west and we noticed the BNSF train stopped some distance to the west.? There are grade crossings near the diamonds and trains are held clear of those crossings if there is opposing traffic.? We figured a UP train would be coming and that was why the BNSF was stopped? ? Sure enough, a northbound UP intermodal train appeared.? I don't think the wait was too long. Mike Tisdale
