Re: Springtime Tuesday, 2021
Hi Bill, The shop buildings in the background are being used by the California State RR Museum for equipment storage and restoration work.? The CSRM has been able to get nearly all of its equipment inside since gaining access to the shops and building a new transfer table to replace the one that SP or UP (I don't recall which one) removed as they were closing the shops down.?? So far, the shop buildings are not open to the general public, but that is planned for the future. Mike Tisdale

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDepends on how much you transfer and when you transferred. ?If you were an early adopter it was ¡°free¡±, but that didn¡¯t last long until this platform started charging to import group files and messages from Yahoo, or elsewhere. ?Groups.io has been charging for more and more, currently there are hard caps on number of members, storage space, and activity levels for a group to remain ¡°free¡± before they start assessing charges. ?I¡¯ve seen several Pass the Hat To Keep Us Alive campaigns on bigger groups. ?Jeff Moore Elko, NV Sent from my iPhonyExpress On Mar 22, 2021, at 9:20 PM, Sheldon Perry <sheldonperry@...> wrote:

Re: Yahoo Groups
I respectfully disagree. ?Much of what was posted was great, including stories and personal accounts that will now be unobtainable. ?And moving it over wasn¡¯t all that hard either. ?I know, as I moved my own Yahoo group over to .io groups.
So now all those posting are lost forever. ?This seems very short-sighted in my opinion. Sheldon Perry? |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI still have a lot of old posts from the Yahoo group, but as Mike says, most of them are not worth preserving.? Re: Yahoo Groups
Did anyone even archive the old ObsCar archives? If so, someone with extra time on their hands could pick the highlights for a "Best of" book.

Indiana
Tyler Guthrie's photo at North Vernon is our Indiana photo. North Vernon is on the former B&O Cincinnati-St. Louis line, now owned by CSX. The signal, which the caption says dates to the days when PRR owned the line that crosses here, is what caught my eye in this photo. It is a wonder that something like this exists on a Class 1 railroad in 2021. Mike Tisdale |
Intermodal Monday, 2015
March 21, 2015, Westbound intermodal train with UP 5702 at the Planehaven switch. Sacramento, California.? Planehaven is the junction for the rail lines serving McClellan AFB, now an industrial park.? The lines have a switching railway that operate then and the yard is used by the BNSF Stockton-Sacramento turn. Mike Tisdale |
Illinois
This photo from Chicago, Illinois of Amtrak's City of New Orleans crossing the Chicago River on the St. Charles Air Line at the blue hour struck my fancy when I saw it on Railpictures recently and I knew that I wanted to us it when I got to Illinois in the alphabet. Ben Sutton was there looking north as the train left town with the skyline as a stunning backdrop. |
Hawaii
Hawaii no longer has regular railroads, but a couple of tourist lines use the rights of way of older lines. The Hawaiian Railway uses a few miles of the Oahu Railway west of Pearl Harbor. The Oahu Ry. once served the docks and industries in downtown Honolulu, interchanged with the Navy's railway at Pearl Harbor and ran along the island's west shore to the north shore and served sugar plantations along the route. Now only a few miles remain to haul tourists on weekends. Robert Pisani took this photo of the Hawaiian Railway's excursion train at the line's end of track along the Pacific. Mike Tisdale |
