Logging 7
We have made the decision to move to N1MM this year for Logging. The plan is to keep the GOTA station OFF the network due to the duping situation for that call (KE4UW). I have a USB key where I built an N1MM.bat file to install the program, apply the the latest SW, install the parallel port driver (PORT95NT) if using NT/2000/XP which is necessary for CW. The install takes about 5 minutes. The ony thing necessary after install is to configure the serial interface for frequency information for the particular radio being interfaced. I have the necessary documentation for most radios including the Elecraft K2. If you feel ambitious you can download the latest at N1MM.com before Thursday. I'll be there Thursday through the duration with the exception of Thursday late afternoon and evening. 73 de WA2MBP

Final call for Saturday and Sunday lunch Head Count 9
OK guys, last chance to get in on a free lunch for Saturday and Sunday. So far, I have heard from a total of ten folks that they are in for lunch Saturday, and eleven for Sunday. For Saturday: AA4LR, KD4SHH, KE4ENI, KE4UW, KG4IUL, KN6RO, KT4XN, WA2MBP, WA2BCK, WB4SQ For Sunday: All of the above plus KF4TJY There are a number of folks who have at one time or another indicated they might be at Field Day, but haven't heard anything lately. If you are one of those (W5BJV Marcel, W4JO Jim, W0AG Roger, W2DNO Stan, N4HH Don, WB8VTK Eric, N4NBL Phil, K4SB Ed), and would like lunch, you need to let me know quickly. I've got to finalize the count by Tuesday afternoon and do the shopping Tuesday evening (I'll be busy delivering things to the site on Wednesday, and at the site to stay on Thursday). So let me know if you will be at the site at lunch time, and if you'll be bringing anyone else. If you let me know by about 5pm tomorrow, you're in. After that, you're on your own for lunches. Saturday dinner will be a pizza run, and we'll make the arrangements on the fly. Dave, I have two 6ft tables ready to go with a third coming back home by 6:30PM tonight (hopefully). Are we still on schedule to pick up the 3 tower sections tonight and will there be room for the 3 tables? Site visit today 11
Hey gang, We¡¯re looking pretty good for Field Day preps. Gary WB4SQ and I went out to the Fuller¡¯s farm today and finished up the site prep. A couple of hours was spent trimming branches along the road in, and I think the RV should be able to make it in fine now. Tom, you might want to bring your trimmer just in case, but I really thing the path is plenty clear. Gary and I marked spots for tower bases for 7 towers, and we have an idea where to put the 8th if we decide to put up the beam for 10m phone. I inventoried the tower parts today, and I have six tower tops, Gary has one, and Shane has one, so we¡¯re good to go there. I have four bases and Shane has one, so we are three short. Shane is going to try and make up one or two. When I hear back from Shane, I¡¯ll figure out what else we need and hopefully I¡¯ll have the time to make something up from plywood. Shane and I (and hopefully a couple others) are taking a trailer load of gear (tower sections, antennas, cable, etc) out to the site so we¡¯ll have it for Thursday/Friday setup. Eric and Dave R., I¡¯ll need to get your generators over to my house by Tuesday night, so let me know which days work for you and I¡¯ll swing by and get them. Hopefully I can do this either Monday or Tuesday evening. I¡¯m going to have to get to Gary¡¯s for tower sections, to Woodstock for the two generators, and maybe to Jim¡¯s for another generator. Can anybody else help transport some of the tower/generators to my house or to Shanes? OK, it¡¯s back to work on antennas for me! Dave KE4UW

Findings de jour... #1 - The Tail Twister cable/rotor/control box works fine. There's over 250ft of control cable. Dave (KE4UW), any way you could make up another set of quick disconnects ??? #2 - Only one good run of coax with terminators out of the bunch, but its 267 ft long and absolutely flat swr up to 136 Mhz. Plan to use it for the 40M cw feedline. #3 - Ran 1-1/2 ft short of new RG213 coax so the 80M cw bazooka will have to be centered on 3.66 instead of 3.625 Mhz. Again, another long run of RG213 feed for it. #4 - Found the 24ft mast that came with the tower. Dave & I discussed mounting the 80M bazooka inv V apex from the top of the 20M mast. This'll help. #5 - Won't have a hub this year, as I lost the power supply during a power surge a few days ago. #6 - Looks like the 40M 2-el yagi has all the parts. Have to work on the rusty U-Bolts. Sanity checks on equipment for FD
Just as a reminder, our current plan for station setup includes the availability of the following equipment: 80 meter antennas: WB4SQ (1 bazooka), KN6RO (1 dipole), KD4SHH (1 dipole) 40 meter antennas: WB4SQ (yagi), KE4UW (yagi), KE4UW (dipole) Rotors: KE4UW (6), KF4TJY (1), and WB4SQ (1) Tower top sections: KE4UW (5), KF4TJY (1), WB4SQ (1) Tower bases: KE4UW (4), KF4TJY (1) Also, hopefully the station captains for the SSB stations will have headsets/boom mics, adapters, etc, and CW station captains will have keys/keyers, etc identified, and all will have power supply (if needed). If you're short something, yell. Somebody in the group has probably got one of whatever we need. Scream loudly if something has come up and one of these items isn't available, so we can work on plan B. There are still a couple of things we're in need of: We need somebody to bring the slingshot launcher to get antenna lines over the tops of the trees. If anybody has a 160 meter dipole laying around, please bring it. Might be good for a few dozen Qs in the wee hours. Long runs of good coax are always handy. Also small rope for antennas, tent guys, etc. We still need more folding banquet tables. If you bring it, we will fill it! logging 3
Hi Roger, Do you have any time this weekend to come over and hashout details on logging? I have the 5 laptops upgraded to XP SP2. I may be going to Pidgeon Forge with the family over field day (oops...) Just Kidding. ...over this Friday night and back sometime Saturday, but don't know exactly when, if I go. I think a couple hours should take care of it. 73 de WA2MBP

Back in town 10
I¡¯m back in town now until after Field Day¡ªgood Lord willing and no meltdowns. I¡¯m good to go for a site visit this Saturday. I can bring the gear to trim tree limbs and to measure/mark spots for towers. Doesn¡¯t sound like this will take too long. Who else is planning to be there? Hopefully somebody who knows the ¡°trouble spots¡± for the RV can point them out. Didn¡¯t get much response to the poll on the yahoo group, so best I can tell, we only have four folks available for setup Friday (WA2MBP, KE4UW, KN6RO, and WB4SQ)¡ªnobody else responded that they could make it. Hopefully we just have some non-poll-completer types, because four folks ain¡¯t enough to raise any towers. Also, best I can tell, only seven folks indicated they would be around for lunch on Saturday and Sunday. Makes it easy for me! Do I really only need to bring lunch for seven? Balls in your court, guys. If you don¡¯t let me know when you¡¯re coming, don¡¯t expect lunch to be provided! So far, I¡¯m planning to bring lunch for the folks who indicated they¡¯d be there¡ªthat¡¯s only WA2MBP, KE4UW, KN6RO, WB4SQ, KD4SHH, KG4IUL, and AA4LR. All else are on their own unless they let me know otherwise. I¡¯m not chasing you down to buy you lunch. Dave KE4UW

Spoofing Complete 5
OK Dave, I couldn't let it go for even 24 hours. We had a very productive day yesterday including Andrew's hooking up and firing up the ole Ford 'real bush wacker'! You should have seen Tom and Andrew dueling for position on the field day grasslands! The ENTIRE location has been bush hogged and half of that has been cleanly mowed. The area we use most has been mowed right down to an inch or two height thanks to Tom's tractor mower. This extends nearly 400 feet from the gate to the tree line (nearly east to west) and 200' minimum from North to South. Also Andrew was kind enough to bush hog the area around the far back right tree so we can get a dipole up there without bleeding to death on the briar bushes. This is nearly 80000 sq feet (nearly 2 acres) of cleared land!! Roger is going to make two 80 m dipoles for CW and Phone. We can put one up on the far west between two pines (130 feet apart) and the other nearly along the fence where the gate is (tree near fence to NE trees). I walked this off and there is 130 easy in these two locations. We will have some work on getting the RV into the site. Roger and I cleared a fairly good path, but on the way out Tom noticed a bit work still necessary due to the wide turns the RV will make. We also encountered a Hornets nest on the straight drive on the initial entrance. We though we could pick up some 25' spray to kill that before we started shaking that branch any further. If you could bring your tree trimming device next Saturday, we can finish up this work. With four of us, this should take an hour or two max. Other than that, we should plan to meet next Saturday to mark the towers, tents, trailers, and generators. We need to think the positioning of the six (40m Yagi, 40m Yagi, 20m Yagi, 20m Yagi, 10/15 m Yagi, 15 m Yagi), (yes six by my count!!) towers and how to create enough separation so one is not beaming into the back of another. Tom and I had lunch at a great BBQ place just North on 92. I think this is a great alternative to the Catfish Den, since all we need to do is run down and drive through to pick up some good food for Thursday/Friday evening, along with a cooler of beer we should be well relaxed. Have a nice Sunday! QRZed Field Day. Jim MBP -----Original Message----- From: N4N_Field_Day@...
