Hey everyone. Field Day is only a wek and a half away! I guess we so darn organized that there's nothing to talk about...I'd like some input on WHO wants to OPERATE WHERE? Please take a minute to download the Field Day.xls file in the files section and PUT YOUR CALL SOMEWHERE in op1, op2 or op3 on one or more of the stations. Just click on the file if you have XLS installed on your machine, otherwise just send to the group your plans. Also it would be helpful to know who's Laptop computers we will be using. I have five from Eric, that means we need 6 more for 11 stations. Robin are you self contained with laptop for the satellite station? Dave R are you self contained with the UHF/VHF station? Thanks, Jim MBP

FW: Keyboard shortcuts for N1mm
4
Done! I had trouble with my old eyes reading the small print, so I made the font larger. To keep it on one page, I deleted the SO2R sectiion and special radios (FT-1000MP/D and Ten Tec) that aren¡¯t applicable to our FD operation. I¡¯ve laminated a two-sided sheet with the N1MM stuff on one side, and the list of ARRL sections on the other. Last Minute preps
I'm heading home from work in a couple of minutes to get things packed up for the trip out to the site this evening. Won't be on email much after that--maybe a quick check late tonight, but then I'll be out at the site until Sunday. I have a couple of last minutes requests: (1) Lets plan on getting on the repeater at 9pm Thursday night as we have in the past, so those who set up camp on Thursday can pass along any last minute needs to the group. (2) When you come out to the site, remember to park on the pasture side of the gate, or on the right side of the road outside the gate. The grass area on the left side of the road has a septic tank under a thin layer of dirt and parking there could be a rather sh**y experience. (3) Guess what might go wrong and bring what it takes to fix it. We've made incredible use of these little contingencies over the years! SO-239 bullets, 80m dipoles, 4:1 baluns, etc. Who'd have ever figured. . . (4) Bring a friend if you can. That's part of what field day is about. Non-licensed folks can operate the GOTA station (that's what IT is for), and we can always use an extra set of hands for setup and teardown. (5) Lots will go wrong in the next 48 hours, but we have backup plans for most, and can get by without the rest. I'm feeling pretty good about it! I think we'll rock and roll this year! See ya there! Hi Tim, Well I figured out a couple things on your radio last night. First the switch on the back, configures the CW KEY input as either a paddle to use the internal keyer OR a key input to use an external keyer/computer. So no choice exists to use them simultaneously. Therefore using your external keyer and the 'Y' adapter, all I now need is a stereo phone jack to 1/8" mini plug. UW's parallel adapter cable then works just fine. That stereo plug on that parallel port cable only has two wires coming to it, the tip and ground. So the ring is not used. FYI for your bag of knowledge! Jim

Productive setup day today!!
3
Hey gang, KT4XN Tom, KN6RO Roger, WA2MBP Jim, WA2BCK Tom (Jim¡¯s brother¡ªand one of our ringer CW ops), and I had a good day at the site. The RV is in and set up, the white tents for CW and Phone are up, tables and chairs in place, AC power run, lights up (don¡¯t forget to sing jingle bells when you see the lights), network cables and switches run and tested, and the computer network is up and functioning for all except the couple of computers that will arrive Friday or Saturday. We¡¯re heading out to the site tomorrow morning to finish up the prep, and then the real challenge starts at 2pm when we start assembling beams and towers. I think we¡¯ll have just enough to raise the beams, with all of the above, plus KF4TJY, KE4ENI, WB4SQ, and maybe WB8VTK. I¡¯ve lost track of who¡¯s coming, but if we get a couple more, we can go to 30 ft towers for the 40m beams, which should help quite a bit. KT4XN is staying the night out at the site. I managed to forget the tower bases, so I came back to get those and will head back in the morning. Things are looking good. It will be quite a challenge to get all the beams up, but we¡¯ll give it a shot. Some lessons learned today: Bugs weren¡¯t too bad (my opinion), but it¡¯s well worth bringing some bug repellant. Sunscreen is pretty much a necessity. Got my arms a bit burnt today, so I¡¯ve got some spf 30 sunscreen in the car now if you need it. We went through the better part of two cases of bottled water today¡ªplan on bringing some (or some other beverage of your choice) to keep hydrated in the hot Georgia summer sun! See y¡¯all tomorrow or Saturday! Think FD! Top ten or bust! Dave

Visitor, observing, schedule
Hi, Sorry I've not kept up with the posts recently, but I'll be ready to work this weekend. :) I should be penciled in for the night shift again. One more for meals: Juergen (non-ham hubby) will be off on a motorcycle trip this year, but I'm bringing an extra pair of non-ham hands. Keith Burns visited last year and will be back to help this year. He'll be out for the weekend so we can put him to work and get some GOTA points. He'll bring a telescope (and solar filter) for anyone interested. 73, Nancy KG4IUL Contest Phrases Scroll down and check out "Phrases for Special Situations": http://www.dxzone.com/cgi-bin/dir/jump2.cgi?ID=7462

FW: WW2 Military Ham Field Day
Might be too late for the group to get but here is an interesting FD station. Eric -----Original Message----- From: owner-ncva@... [mailto:owner-ncva@...] On Behalf Of Pete Kemp Sent: Friday, June 24, 2005 3:37 PM To: NCVA@... Subject: WW2 Military Ham Field Day For FRUPACers and others. This weekend is Amateur Radio Field Day. The bands will be jammed with stations operating under portable conditions with emergency power. Of special interest a WW2 Military Vintage Field Day Station. >> N4N Field Day 2005 operations....
N4N de KE4ENI.. What a fantastic 2005 Field Day! Despite the rain (Uh, did it rain this year?!) I thought the preparation, team work and operating fun (some folks had more fun that others) was just fantastic! Here are a few picture of the 2005 N4N Field Day operations: http://www.flickr.com/photos/hamwithcam/sets/497443/ I'll try and post a few more pictures over the next couple of days. (Roger, KN6RO, note the ATV demo picture...I have a few more.) BTW: Phil, N4NBL took some incredible pictures of the Saturday night operations...I hope he will post them for us to see. I think Dave, KD4SHH too a few excellent pictures too...but I know he was busy operating most of the time. Again, I had a great time, especially enjoying seeing everyone (and meeting some new friends). Most of all thanks to Dave, KE4UW! (And everyone else who does so much to make N4N so much fun.) What an event this has become! Next year we shoot for "N4N 153A GA" for sure! :-) TTYL es 73 de KE4ENI.. John Grimsley john@... (404) 386-0969 (mobile)

N4N Field Day 2005 operations....
Thanks for letting me spend a couple of hours at N4N. Really impressive - extremely well organized and very congenial group. Would have been great to spend the weekend! Will someone post the "final" tabulation at some point? I'd like to see how my personal lil'field day (single op, single band, 5 watt Elecraft K1 on battery power to a 15 foot high sagging 20 meter dipole in the park) effort of a few hours (84 q's) compares! 73 es tnx agn -- Don N4HH BTW: Since I did operate a short time at N4N on 15 meter ssb, I know the N4N total will be one "q" short on 20 cw of what it could have been since it would have been a violation of the rules for me to also work N4N from my N4HH FD - but - I did hear you on 20 cw racking up the q's! Great going! __________________________________ Yahoo! Mail Mobile Take Yahoo! Mail with you! Check email on your mobile phone. http://mobile.yahoo.com/learn/mail

Gear redistribution
Hey gang, Special thanks to all the folks who hung around in the rain to load up the last of the gear. Things got pretty mixed up at the end, and the flotsam and jetsam were piled onto Roger¡¯s trailer. The trailer was left inside the barn at Roger¡¯s brothers house for the night. We¡¯re rendezvousing at Roger¡¯s brother¡¯s house this evening at 6pm to find a home for everything that was left on the trailer. Roger¡¯s brother lives off of Bob Cox road, a bit west of Barrett Parkway along 120 heading from Marietta toward Dallas. There is way more stuff than I can fit in my truck, and most of it isn¡¯t mine. I need some help picking this stuff up. Anything you can fit in your vehicle, please plan to come by and get it at Roger¡¯s brother¡¯s. If not, please confirm with someone else to pick it up and arrange a swap later, but we need to get it off the trailer today. Gary, I have your tower top, three tables, and your camera at my house. It¡¯s too rain-threatening today to unpack all the boxes to dry things out, but when I get to that, I¡¯ll let you know if I have anything else that isn¡¯t mine.

Thanks!
I was sorta anxious to get the trailer off the field and back on the highway for the long drive home that I neglected to thank everyone for inviting me to come out for Field Day. It had been nine years since I had done Field Day, and I really enjoyed myself. Thank you! Of course, the high point was beating the phone guys.... The bad part was having a really poor CW note. Several guys called in to tell me how bad my signal was, and one guy called me a LID. The ugly part was having the N1MM software hang on me twice an hour.... Perhaps we can work this all out for next year. It was great fun. The beams worked great. Maybe next year we can work out a way to put up a parasitic array for 80m - phased verticals, anyone?
