Tom, Jim: Are we still on for this morning? It's raining pretty steadily out here so what do you guys want to do? BTW, my 2M is out of service for the time being. Call me on my Cell at 404-680-4682 Roger

FW: Saturday 4
Tom, Jim, Roger, Sorry you guys are so shorthanded for this. Maybe a couple other folks will still be able to come help out. Directions are on the yahoo group, talk-in (I assume) will be on 147.105 (+ PL 107.2). Rendezvous time is about 9:30am. My suggestion is, if you get short on time, focus on getting the grass cut. Tom has been the only one to step up who has the equipment needed to cut the grass, so that's the highest priority--we have no backup plan. I'll be in town next weekend (June 18) and, if needed, maybe a second work party can finish up trimming the tree branches, measuring and marking spots for tents/towers/trailers, etc. Dave KE4UW (portable 1 until Wednesday) -----Original Message----- From: Tim Lemmon [mailto:tim_lemmon@...] Sent: Friday, June 10, 2005 4:29 PM To: Moss, Dave J (INPO); James Nail Cc: KN6RO@...; Tim Lemmon; tomcrowley@... Free: Long lenghts of 3-pair (not the skinny stuff) fiber-optic cable
I'm pulling the last of our orange fiber-optic cable at the GA400 toll plaza (NORTHBOUND) tomorrow. You'll have to come by to pick up as its quite a bundle. Lengths vary from almost 1/4 mi to 1/8 mi with one end sometimes terminated. Please email back BEFORE coming out. Gary - WB4SQ __________________________________ Discover Yahoo! Remaining equipment needs for Field Day 6
During our planning net tonight, we identified only a few things that we still need for Field day: (1) A couple of 4-port or 5-port network switches for the computer network (2) Folding banquet tables for operating positions (KE4UW has 5, Gary WB4SQ has 2, Tim WK4U has 1). We need at least four, preferable six more. (3) Sheets of plywood about 4¡¯ x 4¡¯ (or thereabouts) to use as sound baffles for the generators (4) Folding metal chairs, or any other chair that would be comfortable for operating. Trust me, the ¡°chairs-in-a-bag¡± are NOT what we need¡ªgreat for relaxing, terrible for operating. (5) Heavy gauge (10 ga or larger) extension cords to run power from the generators to the operating tents. We also still need a few folks to help with setup on Friday at 2pm. We have KE4ENI, KE4UW, KN6RO, KT4XN, W5BJV, WA2MBP, and WB4SQ who plan to be there. That¡¯s not quite enough to raise any beams safely, much less the seven or eight we are trying to get up. We really need another four or five folks minimum.

Reminder: Site visit this Saturday 9:30am 2
This Saturday several folks will be out at the site to cut the grass in the pasture where we will be setting up, and to trim some trees to facilitate getting the RV in. It¡¯s a great opportunity to take a look at the site, help plan the layout, meet some of the folks, and even pitch in and help a bit. :-) It should take only a couple hours if we get a few more folks who can help. Tom KT4XN, Roger KN6RO, Jim WA2MBP, and Tim WK4U are planning to be there. Contact one of them for a rendezvous if needed. Directions to the site are available in the files section of the yahoo group web page. Eric WB8VTK said he has confirmed with the Fuller¡¯s that we¡¯re good to go for the site prep and the operation itself. I¡¯ll be in Boston through Wednesday, so I¡¯ll miss out. (Darn the luck!) I can be out at the site the following weekend (June 18) if anything doesn¡¯t get done this Saturday. Dave KE4UW

Welcome to Bill AA4LR, another new member of the N4N gang! Bill can do phone, CW, or digital, and is bringing a trailer we could use for one of the CW stations (up to you CW guys). I also talked to Phil N4NBL today and he's going to join us Saturday, and wants to operate digital. Good match--we need some digital folks too. Think Field Day! Top 10 or bust! Once again. . .PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. . .with two cherries on top!
Sometimes herding cats can look easy! :-) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE complete the poll on the yahoo group to let us know your plans. We're still trying to get a head count for who will be at the Field Day site, and when, so we can make some realistic plans. We need to know how many folks plan to be at the site Friday for setup (only four in the poll so far--not enough to raise beams--but I'm sure more have said they plan to be there Friday), Saturday morning for setup, Saturday for lunch (so Margaret will know how much food to bring), for operating (so we know how many stations we need and so we can put together a schedule for operators), and for teardown (so we have a head count for lunch again, and so we don't set up more than we can tear down). So, there are lots of things that can't be planned until after YOU indicate when you plan to be at the site! So please, take a minute to complete the poll--I swear, if it takes more than one minute then your mouse is broken. (Thanks to WA2MBP, KN6RO, KG4IUL, WK4U, WB4SQ, KD4SHH, and KE4UW for responding to the poll already) Dave Moss Manager Radiological Protection Group (770) 644-8304 mossdj@... .DISCLAIMER: This e-mail and any of its attachments may contain proprietary INPO or WANO information that is privileged, confidential, or protected by copyright belonging to INPO or WANO. N4N Priority du jour 4
Hey gang, At a planning meeting a couple weeks ago, we discussed options for the site prep (grass cutting, tree trimming for RV access), and it seemed like the best bet was on Saturday, June 11. Tom KT4XN indicated he would be available, along with his lawn tractor to do the grass cutting. Can any others help out with the site prep? Tree trimming should be fairly easy (compared to 2003), as there won't be any 6-inch diameter limbs to cut. Only two years' growth--so much easier. The bad news is that I have to be in Boston Saturday-Wednesday, so I won't be around to help. Can we get a critical mass of folks to help Tom out? A couple of things to ponder: (1) If we don't get this done this weekend, Tom is not available the following weekend. So if we move to June 18 we'll need someone else to step up with the grass. (2) If we don't get this done the next two weekends, we will either have to set up in tall grass/weeds (not really an option), or wedge this into the Friday setup time (also not really an option if we are going to set up antennas for 9 stations). So, hopefully we can get three or four more folks to help out Saturday June 11. Should take only a couple hours. Oops!
Someone tried to join the yahoo group today and when I was trying to accept the new member I fat-fingered the keyboard and somehow deleted or rejected the invite, and it is now well and truly gone. If someone mentions to you they got rejected, ask them to try again. Sorry. I re-sent invitations to the two folks who signed up today in case it was one of them. If it was someone else, there is apparently no way to tell who it was once it¡¯s gone. Dave

Hamfest booth 7
We are a go for the hamfest inside table! The goal here is to see if we can find a few more operators so we can keep a 9A setup on the air for 24 hours. We still need one or two phone operators, three CW operators, and two digital operators to have two operators per station. We could use another half dozen to get to three operators per station to allow more rest time. Jim has the poster board display that Tom put together, and I have 50 flyers with some N4N info that we can hand out. I'll get a few more printed today to have just in case. I'm not very experienced with this kind of PR thing, so if anyone has any tips or suggestions on how to grab someone's attention and get them interested, let me know. Who might be available to help man an N4N booth for a bit tomorrow? I plan to be there quite a bit, but I also have to pick up a couple things for Gary that will require me hunting down some folks, and maybe meeting a guy at the 11am SECC meeting to pick up a tower top section. Gates open at 8:30, and I suppose things will wrap up by 12:30 or 1:00pm. I can be there at the 8:30 start, but I'd like to be able to quickly check the boneyard for the usual (tower bases, tower top sections, BN-86 baluns). Then I can man the booth until about 10:30, when I'll have to leave for a bit to pick up the tower top for Gary. I guess if we have to, we can leave the booth unmanned. However, I suspect face to face greeting would be the best way to accomplish the mission--find a few more operators! Hamfest 6m setup 3
John and I plan to test the new 6m antenna setup at the hamfest. You know, same drill as the past three years. And as usual we have a new setup. This time we will be using one of the unusual flag poles as the self supporting mast. It will again be attached the trailer hitch of the KD4SHH mobile. For the first time we are going to use a store bought antenna as opposed to a homebrew. I am a little sceptical, but John assures me that a factory can produce resonant device. Guess we will see. Maybe he can make a beleiver out of me. Hi Hi If you get a chance come visit us in the bone yard and check out the setup. I think the plan is to setup at about 10am and have it all pack back up by 11am. 73 KD4SHH

Field Day Needs 18
Hey gang, In putting together some notes for a Field Day planning net, I'm gathering a list of things we need. Rather than try to work it all out during the net, I'm hoping to identify some solutions beforehand. I'm assuming that many of you folks will take on the same things you did last year (Robin on satellite, Dave R. on VHF/UHF, Roger on digital, etc)--my thanks for you guys' support again. However, there are a few holes where folks who took thinks on last year won't be available this year. Can anybody help with any of the following: AC generators (we have Tom's RV and KD4SHH 5KW; need two more 3-5 KW generators) Heavy gauge extension cords (10ga or larger: I have two 25-footers, need several more) 5ft or 6ft banquet tables (we have 5 from KE4UW, need 7 or 8 more at least) Laptop computers for logging (have 6, from WA2MBP, KE4UW, KN6RO, KT4XN, KD4SHH, AA4RC; need at least 4 more, maybe 6 more) In addition to the hardware, we need folks to take on a few activities. Note that we don't need anyone to go buy any equipment, but rather to find out who in the group has what you need, confirm it will be coming to field day, and put it all together once we get there. The only expense is a bit of time. So, can anyone take on: AC power guru to oversee design and installation of AC power to tents (identify generators, extension cords, power strips, gas cans, etc) Station captains for two CW stations and one phone station (we have equipment, but need folks to pick up, assemble and test equipment, bring to FD, set up) Coordinator for bonus points for 5 QSOs on alternate power Coordinator for bonus points for initiating message to Section Manager Coordinator for bonus points for handling 10 messages (packet?) Coordinator for bonus points for visits by elected official and/or served agency official I think you'll see that, all things considered, the list is pretty short. We're in good shape in most areas. Atlanta Hamfest 7
A suggestion was made last week to consider a booth at the Atlanta hamfest for N4N to display what we are up to and maybe get a few more folks to join in. Any interest in putting something together? Guess we could be either indoors (near SEDXC?) or outdoors if the WX is nice. I¡¯m willing to spend some time there, but I¡¯m not much of a graphics person to try to put some kind of display together. I¡¯d need someone else to step up for that. I just saw a flyer today reminding me the hamfest is a week from Saturday (June 4), so we don¡¯t have much time. For the warmongering imperialist pigs in the group, there¡¯s a gun show at Cobb Civic Center June 4. I plan to stop by after lunch. Any others interested? Dave KE4UW
