Driving in this morning, the roads are not great even between here and Madison. I gotta think they're even worse in the winding hilly driftless area. On Tue, Jan 16, 2024 at 8:30?AM Jim Tooley <jim@...> wrote:

Mysterious VFP error
开云体育Just posted this to West-Wind but figured I throw it out here as well: ? One of Aceware’s customers is reporting a very strange behavior pattern with our Web Connection app.? They launch the app - things work fine for an hour or so - then certain pages start to fail.? The error that consistently comes up is "Invalid path or file name" but it is triggered by different commands depending on the method.? ? cClassLib = [awBusinessObject.prg] loProduct = NEWOBJECT(cClassName,cClassLib,Server.oSys.cExe) ????? SET PROCEDURE TO wwDotnetBridge ADDITIVE ? SET PROCEDURE TO wwAPI ADDITIVE ? In each case it is attempting to access a PRG based class library - but all of the PRGs in question should be compiled into the exe - how can they not be located?? ? Not to mention that all of these methods work initially - as noted the problems only show up after an hour or so of activity.? If we reset IIS, everything will start working again for a while.? I would also note that we have the identical exe running on other customer sites with no evidence of this problem.? ? The last thing we did was switch them from Com to File mode - at last report, they had been running for several hours without seeing any failures.? So was the problem somehow tied to Com operation?? ? If anyone can shed any light on this, I'd appreciate your suggestions. ? --sg ? |
Geek Gatherings 2024: Save the Dates!
See you there! ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Rick Schummer <profox@...> Date: Thu, Dec 21, 2023 at 5:22?PM Subject: Geek Gatherings 2024: Save the Dates! To: <profox@...> We have locked in our dates for our 2024 conferences and hope you will save the dates to attend. Our one-day Virtual Fox Fest 2024 will be Wednesday, May 8, 2024. It still has the same great features everyone loves about VFF: great speakers delivering great sessions, live chatting during presentations, and getting to hang out virtually with new and old friends. This event will feature classic sessions from previous conferences, updated for 2024. We're excited to offer you Southwest Fox 2024, a hybrid conference, September 26-29, 2024. You decide whether to come in person or watch online! The in-person event will be held at the Hampton Inn & Suites Phoenix-Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Arizona. The virtual event will use the Ring Central Hopin platform (the same platform we use for Virtual Fox Fest). Web sites will be updated in the new year. Call for speakers will be announced later in February so get your ideas prepared. Rick White Light Computing, Inc. _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: ProFox@... Re: Meeting recap
Yes Stein .... sometimes the obvious eludes me. An alternative is to just print envelopes with an inkjet printer.

Um, since double-window envelopes show both the return and target addresses
from the letter inside, there’s no reason to run them through the printer. So whether they are laser-safe should not really be an issue. The new box arrived today - got my output to work with them by making minimal adjustments to my report template. (See attached photo) Seems like this will work fine… --sg From: [email protected] On Behalf Of Jim Tooley Sent: Wednesday, December 20, 2023 08:48 PM To: MadFox <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [MadFox] Meeting recap Stein ... Western States Envelope Co. in Butler, Wi sells their Digi-Clear laser-safe envelopes in #10s. You should be sure your double windows are laser safe. I noted that I had bought single-window envelopes (since that’s what Walmart had in stock) so I planned to put return addresses on by running each envelope through my laser printer. Jim warned that might be a problem if the windows were made of plastic film due to the heat of the laser rollers. I said I’d tried one and it seemed to work fine but figured I’d better do some more testing, So I ran through another half dozen envelopes when I got home. The first one came through OK, but subsequent envelopes got increasingly distorted as things heated up and the plastic shrank. So I went ahead and special ordered a box of double-window envelopes (which a should have done in the first place) – that should allow both he return and recipient addresses to show through from the letter. Thanks to Jim for the heads up – I’m glad I caught this now and not next week when I’m trying to get the receipts sent out before the end of the year. If anyone needs some single-window envelopes I’ll make you a good deal… --stein On Dec 20, 2023, at 8:26 AM, Eric Selje <eric.selje@... <mailto:eric.selje@...> > wrote: With the revelation that some folks are still tuning in, here's a meeting recap from December 2023: 4 people attended in person: Eric, Stein, Cliff, and Jim. 1 person attended remotely: Jack (If you tell us you want to attend remotely, we'll turn on the Google Meet) Cliff gave a demonstration of his interface to the OpenAI API. He wrote a UI that lets the user tweak settings such as "Temperature" to fine tune the type of results you get. We ran some queries using "One Shot" and then using templates to get repeatable results formatted properly. He explained the billing, via "tokens" which you may want to constrain to keep costs down. Stein is transforming his nonprofit project from a VFP Windows app to a web (Vue.js) and West Wind application. We did a little troubleshooting to figure out why the app that worked perfectly on one PC crashed when he moved it to his laptop (ended up forcing a recompile by changing a function signature which we think was the solution). There's still work to do. We talked about the security implications of adding a file upload to the app vs doing it via CPanel. Eric briefly demonstrated the Advent of Code project, which are essentially word problem challenges for developers. It'd be fun to try to solve these using FoxPro if I had the extra time. Jim reiterated the advantages of doing business locally. That wraps up our 2023 year. I think we only missed one meeting this year due to the timing of Southwest Fox. The dates for VFF and Southwest Fox 2024 have been announced so look for an email from Rick Schummer soon and hopefully we'll see some of you there! Eric |
