selecting data in word 2016 using NVDA (Jaws as back-up)

开云体育

I want to select data from a starting point, find the point where I want to stop, and then select everything from the starting point to the ending point.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks,

Jean

I do a lot of editing and writing in word. I primarily used ?NVDA ?with my other laptop, but have jaws on this one and find it not the same when doing something like this. What I would do is hold down alt and go up or down to navigate by sentence. When I got to the point I wanted I would hit control shit down to go to the end of the paragraph or release control To go line by line. ?or if I wanted the rest of the document control shift end. holding down control with the right and left arrow navigate by entire word. Sometimes, you can get to the point you want and if you want that entire line hold down shift and hit end.

I want to use the find command to locate the end of the data I wish to select which is in the midst of a lot of other data.

There would be several pages between the starting point and ending point.

Do you know how to do this?

Thanks,

Jean

In JAWS, I would go to the place where I want to start my selection and press Control+Windows+K to drop a temporary place marker.
Then, I will keep read on. When I will get the place where I want to end my selection, I would press JAWSKey+Space bar followed by M to mark from the start marker (temporary place marker which I have created before) to my current position.
Now, I can press control+C to copy, Control+X to cut etc.
In case of NVDA, You need to press NVDA+F9 to start the selection.
Then, keep read on. When you will find the end of your selection, you can either press NVDA+F10 to select the text from the start marker to the current position followed by Control+C to copy, Control+X to cut etc, or, you can press NVDA+F10 twice quickly to select the text between the start marker and the current position? and copy the text as well.

Here is something else:

?

1. Quick Highlighting and Copying:

The NVDA build-in marking feature enhances easy highlighting of block of text, and swift fetching same text. This is useful in word processing and HTML document environment.

Turn browse mode on by pressing nvda key and space bar.? You will hear a high pitch beep.

You only need to mark the beginning and the end of what to be highlighted rather than holding down the SHIFT key and continually pressing the navigation keys before initiating copying with CONTROL+C and the likes. Just mark the beginning of the block of text with the keystroke NVDA+F9, then you can use nvda control f to find the text you want or proceed with your reading normally to where you want the selection to end, and press the keystroke NVDA+F10. This highlights the block of text, and with this you may delete, cut, copy to the clip board? or make any change to the highlighted portion. The coolest aspect is that; having marked the beginning of the block of text with NVDA+F9, if the keystroke NVDA+F10 is pressed twice quickly, the block of text will be copied to the clipboard instantly.

Yes, but I think, turning on brows mode is optional.

Pradip,
Thanks for the really sweet suggestion of putting the temporary placemarker with ctrl + win + k at the beginning and jaws + space + m at the end. I just tried it in an Outlook email and it works there as well. And as in the situation Jean mentioned, it is entirely possible to do a ctrl + f search to find your endpoint, or F4 to search within an Outlook email, to save time.
The F8 extended selection in Word would work OK for sighted people scanning the file with their eyes to drop the endpoint marker, but when I tried doing a ctrl + f search after F8, once you eject out of the search the F8 feature seems to cancel out. So the methods mentioned in this thread definitely seem like the way to go for us.
