Hi Takis,

I browsed the internet for solutions that might fix your problem. Here is something you might try.

?

Outlook 2010 and later versions

To resolve this behavior, create a new Send/Receive group in Outlook: ?

1. Click File , and then click Options . In your case Alt + F.

2. Click the Advanced? tab.

3. In the Find Send and Recieve? section, click Send/Recieve .

4. Under Group Name , click the group, and then click Copy .

5. Under Send/Receive Group Name , type the new group name, and then click OK .

6. Under Group Name , click the old group name.

7. Under both When Outlook is Online? and

When Outlook is Offline , click to clear the check box for

Include this group in Send/Receive (F9) .

8. Click Close .

9. Quit Outlook, and then restart Outlook.

Hi Brian/Chris/all,

Could someone tell me please what I need to do to get automatic receipt of new mail when I open outlook? Currently when I open it, I need to press f9 to get new mail from all accounts. I remember previously mail came straight to my inbox from all accounts once I started outlook. Using latest jaws and office/outlook 365.

If a laptop is in use, and it has a "media keys" function for the function keys enabled by default, that could definitely be the issue.

I make the presumption, and I know I should not, that anyone setting up a laptop for a screen reader user will turn off that function as a matter of course.? But, that requires that you have some idea of how screen reader users actually interact with the keyboard, and many don't because there are not tons of opportunities for your "general purpose IT person" to do this.? I certainly wouldn't have thought of it until I got into "the assistive technology biz."

Hi. Fn plus the left shift toggles the behaviour of the function keys on my work lap top. It is an HP but I’m not sure of the model.

Hi. There could be another issue. Are you using a lap top? If the function keys are set to perform hardware functions you will have to include the FN key along with alt F4 to close programs. Many brands allow you to change this behaviour with a keystroke. On my dell inspiron for instance, holding the FN key and pressing escape will change the behaviour of the function keys. On my HP that I use for work the keystroke is FN plus the left shift key. Try this, or try plugging an external keyboard in and see if it behaves properly. This is all assuming you are using a laptop.

If you can't close windows with ALT+F4 then there is a problem with Windows itself.

Hello Steven:

In Word, you can set the default paste option. See the below link.

?

?

I could not find an equivalent in Microsoft Excel. However, if you press Control+ Alt+v, you will be immediately presented with the paste special dialog and in my copy of Excel (Office 365), paste formulas is the first option when pressing down arrow in this dialog. While this is not a single keypress, it is much faster than the applications dialog. Below is a link to a Microsoft article on pasting in Excel for more information.

Thanks Brian, I didn’t even know that option was there J

I Will just have to remember to sign out of my groups before turning this on, not sure if it is clever enough to avoid looping e.g. if someone replies to the list, it just auto out of office messages them all the time.

In the old days of Groupwise, we used to have major issues with emails looping because of these options but I am sure it is much more intelligent now J

Paul,

? ? ? ? ?The first thing you need to check is whether you are using a Microsoft Exchange account or other type of e-mail access.? The easiest way to do this is to hit ALT+F then Tab over into the Info pane then explore to see if you have a button that is labeled Automatic Replies.? If it is there then you activate it and go through the wizard.? If it is not, then you use rules to set up an out of office reply.

? ? ? ? ? The Help in Outlook 2016, if you search on "Out of Office," gives great step-by-step instructions for both the wizard and for the situation where you need to use rules.

What is your send/receive interval set to?

You can check by hitting ALT+JS,G,S? (Send/Receive ribbon, Send/Receive Groups Control, Define Send/Receive Groups).

Once the dialog is up, search on Schedule an automatic send/receive?and you should land on the checkbox (checked by default) for the All Accounts group.? There is an edit box associated with this that says to do this every X number of minutes.? For some bizarre reason Microsoft increased the default on this to once every 30 minutes, and it used to be 10 (if memory serves).? Outlook is doing a send/receive synchronization far less frequently than most e-mail clients do by default.? You can set this as low as you want, but anything more frequent than once every 5 minutes is probably overkill.

Need some help learning outlook 2019.

Ron Kolesar

Hello, from long time JAWS user Ron Kolesar.

Kolesar16417@... <mailto:Kolesar16417@...>

In short, I've been a Windows live mail user and love WLM.

But WLM is starting to crash user's mail left and right.

I tried u sing Thunder Bird and didn't like
it.

So, I'm learning how to use outlook 2019 with jaws.

In short, when I do a message rule within WLM, in the first column I down
arrow until I see where to and cc line contains people, which I make sure is
checked.

My first question here is, is there something similar to the above from WLM
within outlook?

Also, could you walk me through to set up a rule for each of my
subscriptions?

For example, when you reply to this letter, you'll go into the Ron's
Mailbox, because, the kolesar16417@...
<mailto:kolesar16417@...> address is triggered to go to the
Ron's Mailbox.

I also have a mailbox for each of all of my subscriptions as well.

Here's hoping I can learn how to use outlook 2019 like I did with WLM.

I need to desperately learn a third party mail package because the mail part
of Spectrum AKA Roadrunner mail isn't all that screen reader friendly.

So far, I found out via a few you tube videos that to send and receive is f9
and to simply send is alt s.

I also figured out to go to the different mailboxes AKA Folders, we do a
ctrl y then we're able to do first letter navigation.

But for now, I need to go to the wLM address book, because even though I had
the accessibility help desk assist me in setting up outlook and my contacts,
I still can't use my first few auto fill for pluggin in an address.

How can I turn that featur on, within outlook 2019?

Also, for all of my fellow ham radio friends, I have their call sign in the
nickname field and I then can simply start typing in the call sign and the
name and address pops up with in the to field so that I may then go to
subject and body to write the letter.

Can anyone help me with this as well?

Within WLM it is f5 to send and receive and in outlook it is f9.

Within WLM to go down to each of your mailboxes, you simply just down
arrowed.

Is there a easier way to go to a folder within outlook other than doing a
ctrl y then the first letter of the title of the folder?

How to create a mailbox AKA folder and subfolders as well?

I have a few extra folders when I perform the ctrl d and or simply just the
delete key on the calculator keypad doesn't remove the folder.

Now, I can removed messages, but can't remove folders.

How can I remove the extra folders?

In WLM, I only had to press the little delete key on the calculator keypad.

Now I've tried ctrl and the letter D like I found, but that only deletes
messages and not extra mailboxes.

Now, also, how can I tell if the mailbox should be in the list of folders?

For example, I have a send folder, a send items folder and a send mail
folder.

Which one of the three above should I kill if any?

Also, I need to have my signature AKA tag line at the bottom of my mail as
well.

Many thanks from a JAWS user who's trying to learn a new mail package.

Hi Brent/all,

I have been doing this using f9, I do not know if there’s a difference with cntrl-m. However having unchecked a box which said something like applying schedule, I seem to be receiving mail automatically when I open outlook. I tested this also by sending mail to my university address, then going into that inbox. It required me to hit f9 and it then appeared, I also did the reverse and the effect was the same, as expected. But at least on this email address, mail came down immediately after I opened outlook a few minutes ago. Any suggestions/advice most welcome.

Re: office 365 and latest Jaws and Outlook

Paul,

What is the make and model of your laptop?

In a great many, but not all, systems this must be turned on or off in BIOS.? Lenovo, I believe, and at least one other major brand (not HP, as that's what I have and know it's a BIOS-based toggle) have utilities that let you toggle media keys/hot keys off within Windows itself.

Part of the problem is determining what the maker in question calls this feature, as it has different names, making it hard to web search for the turn-on/turn-off method if you don't know what your computer manufacturer calls the feature.

just a quick query, you can use ctrl+c and ctrl+v for copy and paist in Microsoft Excel.

I Do quite a lot where I need to use paist special so that I can just copy formulas, I can’t seem to find a shortcut to do this other than using the right windows key, does anyone know a way to do this please?

Locked To List Members: General Protocols Regarding Posting To This List

Hello. This is just to let people know that I would appreciate it if you would create a new message if you have a new question to ask as opposed to replying to another message thread with a new question. I realize that to some this may seem trivial but it really does help for people who are searching for a solution to a problem that they may be having since messages on most email lists are archived.

Also, as a reminder please make your subject lines detailed enough so that people who are skimming through messages will have a clear idea of a message's subject before they open the email. Messages such as "Question" or "Outlook Question" are not detailed enough and in those cases I will usually rename them. On most lists that I'm subscribed to I just delete messages with this type of generic subject line. Examples of subject lines which are helpful are, "How to Set Up Message Rules Using Outlook 365" or "Problem With JAWS 2019 Reading Comments in Word 2016." Subjects like this really make a huge difference for those who are either searching through the archives or who are performing Google searches to try and find a solution to their problem. I've been one of those people searching for solutions on more than one occasion and it's likely you will be one of them, as well.

Finally, while there are no hard and fast rules for this I would ask that you consider not submitting short messages just saying "thanks" or "OK, I'll try that." Many of us are subscribed to many email lists and, to be blunt, messages like this are just a waste of time. Before I post a response I often ask myself, "is what I'm about to write of value or importance to everyone who will read this message?" If I conclude that the answer is that it probably is not then I don't send the message. That being said any question related to Office is fine to ask, even if you do happen to think that you're the only one with the problem. The chances are that if you've encountered a problem someone else has encountered the same problem, as well, and someone may well encounter it in the future who will find your question and will be very thankful that you asked it. If a solution that was suggested managed to solve your problem it's perfectly fine to acknowledge that the solution worked along with any additional comments you'd care to add.

Finally, as a reminder this list is for Office products, such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, etc. Most people have been very good at only asking questions or writing replies for those types of software. I think it goes without saying that Zoom, Google Drive, Dropbox and antivirus software, even Microsoft Defender, are not Office products and questions about them should not be asked on a list dealing with Microsoft Office. There are plenty of mailing lists to tackle these issues. To locate them, you can go to www.groups.io, go to the link to find a group and search for Win10, Techtalk and other blindness lists.

Many thanks.

I only wish. Our service desk at work knows squat about that stuff, and there are many blind people in the organization.
