Re: [www.Kresy-Siberia.org] good book
John Halucha
Not sure if I mentioned this before, but if so forgive the repetition: this book can be downloaded free in several formats or read online at http://www.archive.org/stream/worldapart007324mbp/worldapart007324mbp_djvu.txt
It is no replacement for a paper book for some old-timers like me, but comes in handy for copying excerpts rather than typing from scratch. Basia is right on all counts about the value of this book. The author is a pro, so it has the added charm of being a nice read even if the subject matter weren't compelling enough already. For newer members seeking a detailed recounting of arrest, imprisonment and gulag, there is no better than "A World Apart" by Gustaw Herling. It is in Penguin books and is un-put-downable. Truly gripping. Albert Camus said it "should be published and read in every country". The translation from Polish to English is excellent. He tells other peoples' stories in short form as well as his own in more extensive detail. It explained some of my family members' behaviour to me. The printing of some interesting correspondence as an addendum is eye-opening. I cannot recommend it strongly enough. Try Abe books. I find that if they cannot find a book by title they can by author if they have it. Best wishes, Basia (UK) |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHelen, the Police wanted them to get into your computer, so they would leave a signature which they could trace, but any good scammer leaves nothing and wrecks your computer in the process, needing you to spend copious amounts of money at a shop to fix it and you will never recover data once they have corrupted it.? you did the right thing.? ?You were so lucky.? The phone scam was on all the television and radio here in Australia last year and they are overseas based, so it is difficult to catch them and if shut down, they establish a new site and continue.? Very clever people, be careful.? The mob I was tricked by online, is not registered and by messages from others like me left on the net, they got away with three million dollars, last year and no one can touch them, because they are short of being illegal and trick you to invite them. Deportation and Exile
I have the book. Bought in the 1990's at a Barnes & Noble in Las Vegas, Nevada. These are the chapters. (1)The Mass Movement of Poles to the USSR, 1939-41. (2) The Sikorski-Maisky Pact of 1941 and the 'Amnesty' for Poles Confined on Soviet Territory.(3)The Evacuation of Poles from the USSR during 1942. (4)The Relief Effort on Behalf of 'Amnestied' Poles. (5)The Role of Polish Communists in the USSR, 1943-45. (6)Renewed Deportations from Polish Territory, 1944-45.(7) Repatriation from the Soviet Union, 1944-48. Pages 200-251 are detailed notes. Any suggestions on how to simply share this information without giving up the book?

Colin, I¡¯d be happy to help too. My father¡¯s village (hamlet really, only 25 families) was Maczkowce (named after General Maczek) located near a Czech village called Jeziorany. It was located midway north-to-south between (present-day Ukrainian spelling) Lavriv and Radomyshl which are four miles apart; and a mile or two to the west of these two towns. This area is around 12 miles south-east of Lutsk. ? Martin Stepek Hamilton, Scotland Author?¡°For There is Hope¡± ? Sent from Windows Mail ? |
Re: Polish Navy Exhibition at Sikorski
Thanks for the offer Anna. I bought the book and read the chapter on the Polish Navy straight away. It was full of details that were relevant to my family. Sadly it was published in 1944 so the last year of the war and subsequent demobbing and resettlement of Naval personnel were nor covered, a bit like an unfinished symphony! ? Re: Dulab cemetery in Tehran
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDear Marco,
?
Unfortunately, some names and headstones are missing from this
cemetery.? This is the case of my uncle JOZEF SIOMKAJLO, who died of Tyfus
in Teheran.? Some years ago, I contacted the Polish Embassy in Teheran, and
the consul there was very kind and did a very thorough search of all the records
from that time.? However, he could not find my uncle listed anywhere.?
The best he could do was locate a somewhat similar name of a person buried in a
mass grave, but there is no way to know whether this is my uncle or not.
?
This was a very confusing time in Teheran.? Persons, like my uncle,
were separated from their families, and brought to over-crowded hospital tents
and hospital wards.? When they died, there was no one there to properly
record their details, so their names were not known in some cases, and in other
cases, were no spelled properly.? As a result, we may never succeed in
finding the exact place where they are buried.? I had such great hopes that
I would finally find one of the missing members of my mother¡¯s family, but it
was not possible.? I hope that you will be more successful someday.
?

Tehran ?
Hi there, As many eastern Polish people, my grandfather? Julian Demidowicz born
in 1920, in Bereza, near Brest (now Belarus), was sent to a gulag near Archangel
by the Soviets.
?
Then, he got the opportunity to fight for Poland in the Anders Army in the
italian front, where in Verona (my city), he met my grandmother, married her and
then moved to Argentina till the mid of the 80s.?
?
His father, Wladyslaw Demidowicz, deported too to a gulag, was then moved
to Iran too, where unluckly he died, and where he was supposed to be buried (my
grandfather was sure he was buried there, because a friend from the same village
said him that he saw Wladyslaw dieing with his own eyes).
?
During this summer, to complete my research about this "odissey", I had the
opportunity to visit Dulab Cemetery in Tehran.
? Unluckly, with my greatest surprise, I can't found the grave I was looking for. ? I was looking for my greatgrandfather, Wladislaw Demidowicz, born in Bereza in 1900 and died in 1942 or '43 by typhous in Tehran. ? I checked all the Dulab tombstones, helped with a nice
iranian cimitery keeper, and then contact the polish embassy in Iran. There is
no trace about my relative in all the Polish cemeteries in Iran. ? I would like to know if you can help me, or if you can suggest me some resources to find the truth. Thanks again for your precious
help, my grandfather is 92 and still alive, and i would like to say him where is
own father is really buried. ? marco |
