Off topic - Suspect caller - suspect online Microsoft Technicians.
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýVery well said Lenarda - these scammers are ruthless. I've had so many calls over the past 3 years - sometimes 5 times in one day that I have purchased a megaphone. If I have any problems I give them a blast - hopefully a few eardrums have been damaged!
With warmest wishes, Krys UK (Dobrzanska - researching Starzak, Gierula, Khlyuchanka lumber camp - Perm oblast) To: Kresy-Siberia@... From: szymczak01@... Date: Thu, 28 Mar 2013 09:12:27 +1100 Subject: RE: [] off topic - Suspect caller - suspect online Microsoft Technicians. ? Basia UK, this is how I got trapped, my fault, because when I had problem was directed to Microsoft and looked online, found what I thought was Microsoft with Technicians ready and willing to clean my computer, which now in hindsight had nothing wrong, because it was a provider error, but got trapped, paid money believing them, until my children showed me the scam website and I had to get new credit card, used their contract against them (Money back if not satisfied or work not done) and they refunded my money back.? I was lucky, as apparently they scam the world and have made 3 million in the past year. They are not illegal, because you invite them in and they know the words, how reassure you, telling you they are legit. ?Believe me I was careful, checked the information and what I was shown on computer, they appeared to be legal.? I learned a very embarrassing lesson and was fortunate to get my money back. ?Only let people in who you know and trust.? Truly I felt as if my computer had been violated, with strangers looking at all my private information. ?What Helen did was correct.? These people especially prey, hunt for older people or young people, who are not computer literate and are easily tricked and they can ascertain within the first couple of words, as to whether you know what you are doing or need help running your computer and then they pounce. Off topic - Computer Maintenance Scams - please beware.
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDear Group, Helen you did exactly the right thing - this is a world-wide scam. I would advocate extreme caution when using any "file sharing" software like for remote access to your PC. All their () credentials and security promises are fine and dandy but you are, when all is said and done, trusting someone to "enter" your private domain, by-passing Firewalls and any other security measures. Anyone can ask you to use and download the Teamviewer software and, by putting in the given security password you are basically giving the person you are talking to, COMPLETE access to everything you have on your hard-drive - including bank details, (possibly passwords) Paypal details,?private documents,?recent transactions and other internet history. It's like giving someone the key to your safe and leaving them to get on with whatever they want to do. Cold-calling computer maintenance scams (mostly from India) use third party software like Linkmein or Teamviewer to access your computer and then actually installs their own spyware or other malware on your otherwise healthy pc - you then have to pay them to have it "repaired/cleaned" and then pay a monthly fee to keep it "maintained." Often the scammers will contact you a couple of days before to ask you to complete a survey - seemingly unrelated to any computer maintenance issues - that is how they find out who your internet service provider is and other personal information. Additionally, they often call using Skype so although a number may be registered on your phone - it doesn't exist!? If you Google "Indian computer scams" there are 100s of examples spread over many countries. I personally have had at least 100 such calls over the past 3 years - abuse soon follows if you tell the caller you know it's a scam. Please just be cautious - only use the file-sharing software (Linkmein/Teamviewer/etc) with people you know or trust - Microsoft or its partners will NEVER call you and no one other than yourself knows if your PC is malfunctioning - that information is never broadcast to your internet provider unless you contact them or Microsoft for support. Thank you so much for this - wish I could be there! I would really appreciate if you could take photographs. Also I wonder given we have been talking about doing Polish Navy research/galleries with KSVM if we should produce some sort of Kresy-Siberia flier for the day... asking for veterans / relatives of veterans to come forward with photographs, materials, memoirs, information etc. We could also have some information on there about Kresy-Siberia Virtual Museum (Galleries on Polish Forces in the West) and include donation information. If you think this might be OK, I could draft something? Best regards, Anna Pacewicz Sydney --- In Kresy-Siberia@..., "Eva" <eszegidewicz@...> wrote:

Dear Group,
I would like to give you advance notice that on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 May Liverpool will be the host city of the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Atlantic events welcoming many international vessels. The Polish Navy will be represented by ORP Kosciuszko. It will be a very special occasion to unveil a commemoration plaque for the contribution of the Polish Navy to the Battle of Atlantic and WWII and Merseyside Polonia will be organising a special presentation sharing those stories. Directors of Kresy-Siberia will be present and it is hoped that many members from across the UK will also attend to see this spectacular event. As soon as I find out more information I will let you know. Best regards. Eva Szegidewicz Director, Kresy-Siberia (UK) |

Below is a wonderful site I have known of for some time. It has the list of all people in Maczkowce (and the home site takes you to a plethora of other osada) and a map. The map shows where Maczkowce is. I can¡¯t seem to copy the map onto my laptop but if you use the scroll bars so you are looking at roughly 3/4 of the way down the map and 3/4 way to the left you¡¯ll find Maczkowce just east of a railway line and south-east of Czarukow. Hope this helps. ? Zdzis, I think you are right about Maczkowce being Maczka Wolyn or similar names as the settlers just started to name the villages themselves and may well have had different names till they settled on one. And it certainly started with Jeziorany though there are dozens with that name in the area as it is a lake district and I think the name means beautiful lake of similar. But it may be that these - the two named after Maczek - were neighbouring settlements or one was a spin-off of the original. ? Thanks so much Martin Stepek Author?¡°For There is Hope¡± ¡°This astonishing poem... should be on every table where Poland is discussed and the brave dead remembered.¡± Neal Ascherson ?
