Re: 1940 Sears Roebuck Ham Radio Catalog
开云体育You can add Newark and Olson too. ? And here is a sears 1923, if you have not seen an Oldie ? you might want to see this for other radio catalogues, if you have not been there, look closely ,there are a lot of “folders”

开云体育Ya, I had and recall all those, then there was the WRL [World Radio Labs] catalogue which i also recall. ? i just happened to open the Radio Shack 1949 and on page 3 found the Sx-42 and 43 and others. plus a s-47 which can be had as a rack-mount as well as in a typical Halli cabinet -- that being of interest because i have an S-47 FYI see ?Radio shack catalogs?? I remember Sears carrying a Sears-branded Yaesu (I think) 2M FM rig in the 70's.? They clearly were the Amazon of their times , John K5MO On Tue, Jan 3, 2023 at 7:44 AM D. Platt <jeepp@...> wrote:

Re: 1940 Sears Roebuck Ham Radio Catalog
I did an article for ER magazine a while back comparing 1949 surplus prices to 2015.? The multiplier in that case was 8:1? looking back, not forward.? That was oranges to oranges.? Technology has advanced so much that gear back then cannot compare.? I'm not sure that simple inflation figures provide for a real comparison.?

Re: 1940 Sears Roebuck Ham Radio Catalog
That is a fascinating catalog, thank you for uploading it!? Using an online inflation calculator it appears that the price multiplier from 1940 to present would be about 21.2, i.e.the $49.50 Sky Champion receiver would be $1050 in today's dollars...similar to the current cost for the ICOM 7300 transceiver.

1940 Sears Roebuck Ham Radio Catalog
I never knew Sears actually sold amateur radio equipment.
I just uploaded it into our files section, check it out right here: /g/HallicraftersRadios/files/A%20Library%20of%20Vintage%20Hallicrafters%20Print%20Ads,%20QST%27s%20From%20the%201930%27s%20&%2040%27s,%20Brochures,%20HF%20and%20VHF%20off%20Air%20Recordings,%20Catalogs%20and%20Other%20Memorabilia,%20in%20PDF%20Format/Vintage%20Electronic%20Tech%20Articles%20and%20Radio%20Catalogs/1940%20Sears%20Roebuck%20Radio%20Amateur%20Catalog.pdf K2WH |
Re: SX100 alignment
开云体育Hi Steve mostly and the gang too. Your first reply was to the point and likely valid, too bad? we can’t easily get the video corrected. It seems that this posting was later hijacked into a generalization which is far too much to address in this thread. ? as to this specific response, it is easy to agree with the first sentence specifically about the “production”, but with respect, the final wording “….killed” is troubling, as it leaves only ?fear with no mention of how to avoid videos that can get people killed. Now, going beyond this: having concern over safety regardless ?of how much initiation one thinks he has had is good, but unfortunately, building ?consensus for any general “formula” for safety is big task, left for another time. ?? 开云体育Looking at the manual – the correct procedure is to peak T6, along with T3, T4, and T5.? I haven’t seen the online video you’re referencing, but many are filled with accidental errors.? It would be counterproductive to “dip” T-6, and may have been a slip of the tongue by the presenter. ? 73 – Steve, KW4H ? From: <[email protected]> on behalf of <w0ag@...> ? I’m in the process of alignment and watched a UTube video for clarification. ?While the manual instructions call for peaking T6 ( as well as T3, T4, & T5), the video said to “dip” T6. ?Which is correct? |
Re: SX-100 Pitch Control
Greetings to Bill and the Group:
?? It would appear that your brass insert is broken.?? I see what appears to be crystalline fracture marks on either side of the flat part of the wire bail.?? If you examine the photo earlier in this thread by Dave - KB6MBC, you will note that the "open" area in your photo is completely enclosed.?? After review of your post, I realize that this is not the defective coil from your working receiver, but using it as a replacement part may be problematical because of this damage. Good Luck, -- Jim T. KB6GM |
Re: SX-100 Pitch Control
OK, there's a bit of work involved to get the BFO coil and slug assembly out of the radio. Since I have a non working parts radio, I decided to disassemble that instead of my working SX-100.?
I used a socket (minus its wrench) through the front of the chassis and some pliers to loose the locknut that secures the shield and coil assembly to the chassis. ?Also three component connections to be cut or unsoldered. The shield and coil come out as one piece. When you finally get it all out, you'll see there are a couple of possible causes for the defective BFO adjustment mechanism. There's an inner clip that rides on the thread and would thus control the fore and aft movement of the inner screw. You can see it on the right hand photo below.? There's also a larger wire "clamp" that secures the large brass bushing inside the coil form, so that only the inner screw and slug will move relative to the coil winding.? As far as I can tell, either the thin wire clip or the larger wire clamp could be the cause of the loose BFO control problem in my working radio, so that's next on the agenda. 73 de Bill Alpert/ KG6NRV? |
