Invitations to join not being received
开云体育Gentlemen,We just started a 30 day free trial. Two prospective members out of nine in the test group are not receiving the invitation to join email. One is already a member of an established ?group. He is using the identical email address ending in @msn.com. Second member uses @hotmail.com. Both individuals have double checked email spelling, and both report that the invitations are not going to their spam or junk files. We have 200 members, and cannot accept a failure rate of 20%. Hope you have a simple fix! Thanks, Chris Garbow |

Are they already members? You cannot invite someone who's already in the group. That may seem ridiculous, but I have to pick the low-hanging fruit.

Failing that...

-- Have you checked the Sent Invitations page (see below)?

Since you're a newbie, please note that the system help is comprehensive and even has a search engine. Not trying to discourage you from asking here but that's always the first place to look.

开云体育Hi Bruce,Thanks for the response. No, they are not already members. No, I did not get an error message; sent invitations page simply says “sent”. One of the guys is a member of another ?In that group, his name was spelled slightly differently, so I sent another invitation with that different spelling. Too early to know if that solved the problem.? 2nd individual is brand new to . Since we are still unpaid, the direct add option is not available. Chris Garbow

sent invitations page simply says “sent” That means that it was sent (and received) by whatever address you used.? Why they didn't see it is something they'll need to dig into.

The Groups.io Help Center includes the Owners Manual and Members Manual. They can be browsed online or downloaded as PDF files. |

Well, at least the invitations did not bounce. Successfully sending the invitation doesn't necessarily mean they'll be delivered, though.

How long ago did you send them? You may simply have to wait. Many people expect delivery to be instantaneous -- and it usually is -- but there is no provision for that in the internet standards.?
?
It would also be helpful to know their domain names. Some email providers have weak server infrastructure and will throttle emails coming from groups.io until their server load quiets down.?
Unfortunately, that's not likely to help. Display Name can vary from group to group, it's the email address that matters.? ?
Good luck,

I'm guessing the invites are in their spam folder ...

开云体育Jen,Thanks. Both say invite is not in spam nor junk folder.

It's no coincidence those two particular domains addresses are having problems, Hotmail & msn are both owned by the same company (Microsoft) and use the same servers, rules and whatnot, and also both have been known to be problematic sometimes, just like Yahoo, AOL, etc.
Since both addresses already have groups.io accounts, one way you can "fix" this problem is to send those two a personal email with a link to the group's home page address, and tell them to click the "Join this group" button.? Alternatively they can send themselves a blank email to your group's +subscribe address. At least this way they can be added to the group so you can then do further testing by sending them a couple of group comms and looking at their email delivery history for possible clues, so when the time comes for the actual invites you'd at least know how to handle msn & hotmail addresses. Cheers, Christos |
Problem solved. As suspected, the invitation was in their spam/junk folder.

What we didn’t realize is that the invitation is titled “Group Notification”. Thanks for all your help! Chris Garbow On May 14, 2025, at 8:30?PM, Christos Psarras via groups.io <christos@...> wrote: |
