Problem solved. As suspected, the invitation was in their spam/junk folder.
What we didn¡¯t realize is that the invitation is titled ¡°Group Notification¡±.

Since both addresses already have groups.io accounts, one way you can "fix" this problem is to send those two a personal email with a link to the group's home page address, and tell them to click the "Join this group" button. Alternatively they can send themselves a blank email to your group's +subscribe address.
At least this way they can be added to the group so you can then do further testing by sending them a couple of group comms and looking at their email delivery history for possible clues, so when the time comes for the actual invites you'd at least know how to handle msn & hotmail addresses.
