still working on bounces

Holly

I hope this won't be considered off-topic as it has more to do with Yahoo's internal issues than groups.io. Please feel free to boot it off the list :)

I'm still working on bounces and have had quite a few additional Yahoo addresses added to it just since yesterday. My process is to email the address privately - and usually that gets through regardless of the domain that's bouncing - explaining that I'll be sending a bounce probe shortly, what email address it's coming from, the subject line, and how/why to respond (I created a template this morning to make that easier). I go to this trouble because many of my group's members aren't all that tech savvy, but we value their membership as they are savvy in the group's area of interest. In many cases, I get a response back from the member.

But in some cases I've been getting this error code from some of the Yahoo bounces: This mailbox is disabled (554.30). Shal said "let 'em go" in an earlier email on this error message. However, though my research says those accounts with such a message have been deleted because the person hasn't used it in more than a year, and in at least one case, I know that's not true - I have an email from that member, sent to me privately from the subscribed email address, in my inbox from less than a year ago.

Again, I know this is a Yahoo/Verizon problem, not groups.io, but if anyone has suggestions on how to deal with it other than calling all the people with this issue, I'd appreciate it. You can email me privately at <holly@...>

Thanks,

Holly

I hope a moderator sees this amendment :)

I'm not getting bounces from the PRIVATE messages sent to at least two members so far, though the bounce from the groups.io bounce probe was practically instantaneous. So maybe Yahoo is blacklisting groups.io in a different way?

An interesting thought! As chance would have it we both had related posts in the moderation queue at the same time; you have possibly read it already but in case you haven't see this post on the subject of recent "bulk" additions to the Yahoo bounce list.?

I would sincerely hope that this isn't a case of "hostile action" on the part of Yahoo but if private messages from you aren't being bounced it certainly constitutes grounds for suspicion.

Perhaps more to the point have you had responses to your messages, or just "no bounces"? And have those private messages been via Groups.io or from your own email address?

I always send from my own email address as most of my list members aren't very savvy, so might not know the list owner address is me, but they all know my private email address. In addition, I don't use the groups.io web interface any more than I have to :)

So far, no bounces, or responses, from the private emails I sent - if those emails were just recently added to the bounce list. (However, I only sent those private messages yesterday evening, so they might have been received but not responded to yet.) I have one yahoo address that's been bouncing for a while with the same message of the mailbox being disabled, and my private message to her also bounced.
