Q about finding a particular member
I just got up and running on my group early this AM and want to find a particular member and not finding out how and where to look them up.
I go to members under Admin and only have one pending approval. Tried entering info on member address in search box with and without % at the end like Yahoo but that did not bring them up. Tried looking under Directory and get boxes for each member with picture icon, name and button to email but that is totally useless with almost 1300 members to track someone down. Thanks James C. FYI, when there are any pending members, that will be the default page when you choose Members under the Admin menu. If you go to admin, click on members, any new book pending approvals Will be listed under pending at the very top. Then you will be able to click on their email address, and it will bring up all the different options that you can do what their membership such as approving.

It would be easier if all members had a display name. Not sure how to make sure that happens. The Directory is up to members whether or not they wish to be listed for the group to see. Have you tried the exact email address in the Members search box?

Have you tried the exact email address in the Members search box? That isn't strictly necessary, or shouldn't be.? Just a "partial" of the address before the @ will find any match. (It will also work on addresses that have something personal after the @ but they are less common.) I get the feeling that the original query was posed after a search on "Pending" members didn't produce any results; as Duane pointed out the search needs to be done on "Members". Chris |
Tried search on partial string and it works. Thanks for pointing it out.

When searching for a particular member you need to search with a peice of known information that they have entered in your IO Group. Enter that in the search box. You don't say if your group is new or was transferred from YG. I am guessing transferred given you have 3000 members.?
The email address may or may not get you there. It should, if the member is still using the same email address they used in the YG. But if they signed up for IO under a different email address they could have changed their email address in the IO group if that was allowed.? I moderate a new (not transferred) group. I have found searching?by name will not work unless the person entered part of their name as his/her display name. Those who have not logged into IO have a blank display name. Our group is set up to allow me to edit their Display Name. Any blanks, and fill it in with their real name. IDK, but am guessing that YG transfers may put their Yahoo user name in the IO display field. If so, that won't help you to search under their real name.? They will not be listed in the directory by name unless you require them to use their name in the display field. If your group is new and requires approval, you might search your approval emails for those containing the name you are looking for.? My last suggestion is to download the CSV file (spreadsheet) of your members and use your computer software to search for portions of their previously known YG ID or YG email address. The CSV file contains their email, display and user name, among other things.? In our group, we require every member to use their first name and last name initial (or last name) as their display name. We require everyone to use their Full Name in their signature. We require them to provide us (owner/moderator) their full name in the approval emails.? IO balances personal privacy along with the IO Group Owners parameters for data sharing of personal information within the group. The only way you can ensure finding what you are searching for (in this case a name) is to maintain a personal spreadsheet of your members with everyone's data and add a name field to it. That way, if someone later switched their display name, you can refer to your spreadsheet that links real names to display names and email addresses. -- Sandi Dickenson Moderator of ASG Volunteers Group |
