I use the hashtag all the time. Problem is I do not have that option. Sorry!

I forgot to mention that locking the thread doesn't close voting in the poll, so you need to manually close it via the Edit function.

?FYI, the hashtag is created, if it doesn't already exist, when the first poll is started.? It's a good idea to see what the settings are though.

The only problem with using the hashtag is that it can lock the thread, but doesn't send the results.

That bit is straightforward. Firstly, have you set up a Poll hashtag? I suspect that you have not . If you set one up then setting the poll duration is part of the creation of the hashtag; you gt the choice of "Forever", or I hour, I day, I week, 1 month or 1 year. I suspect that if you rely on some sort of "poll default setting" that it is 1 month, but I could of course be mistaken.

Thanks Duane! I can't wait for that feature. One of my groups has weekly polling and would be nice to have them automtically close at a date and time of my choosing and send out the results to the members.

Not yet, but it is on the TODO list,

More questions about polls...

I would like to be able to set a poll to close automatically on a given date and then send the poll results to the group. Is there any way to do that with our polls here?

Thank you,

"OK; then I suggest that you check the settings for the Poll hashtag to make sure that it isn't set to Moderators only. Chris"

No the hashtag is not set to moderators only. In the admin settings, polls are set to 'only moderators can create', I've gone to each poll to the edit button to check and nothing is blocked. When I go to my hashtags and click on the edit button under #poll the only box that's checked is "Reply to sender".? I really don't know what the problem would be.

Thanks so much for trying to help. Any other suggestions?

The suggestion was not for me but for my subscribers. I already know how to create a poll. I would just like it to be easier for my subscribers to view and vote in the polls.

Hi Chris! Thanks for the idea. I did check that and I actually didn't have anything checked in there. The first poll I did created the hashtag on it's own.? It's interesting. I created three polls and they all all have the #poll in the subject line, but only two of them are showing up as Polls on the homepage, and when I go to messages, only two of them show up in messages, but when I go to Messages/Polls, they all three show up.? I have to be doing something wrong. The hashtag thing is not something I am terribly familiar with. It's a learning curve.

Thanks,
Marie Alline

Marie; did you have a look at that?

In your most recent post you said That's why I suggested having a polls link in the left menu.Given that there is a lot to get "right" beyond finding where to start a Poll having "Polls" as a tab in the menu may not solve all that much anyway.

Chris.

Hello Bruce! Thanks for the support.

Logging in has not been a chore for me at all. I think it just takes time for people to understand how to navigate a new system. Since most of my subscribers are used to Yahoo groups, many of them elderly and not everyone is internet savvy, they just get confused about how to navigate, they panic and say "I can't do it! Something is wrong!" but they can't really describe what is wrong. That's why I suggested having a polls link in the left menu. Would make it more simple for my users I think. I've been on the internet for years and have plenty of experience and I am still learning. There are a couple thing on the left menu I have a lot to learn about. Hashtags and Wiki. I really don't understand how to use either.

Thanks again,
Marie Alline?

Indeed that is true, but I tested going to a Poll while not logged in and I was presented with the log - in page, so I don't think that's Marie's problem.
Subscribers often have a difficult time describing a problem accurately. Then that gets passed on to the owner, who passes it on to this group --? like "playing telephone" when we were kids.?

I am a bit concerned about that too; is logging in that much of a chore??
Lots of folks prefer email, and that's kinda why groups.io even exists. If not for the listserv capability everyone here would be using Facebook.

As group owners, we tend to stay logged in all the time, and it's easy to forget that many of our subscribers do not. In my groups, most never log into the site at all, and all their interactions are via email.?
I am finding exactly the same thing from a Poll that I have running at the moment on another Group; I find that a little odd given that web UI functionality is (IMHO) better than that available to email - only users.

With sampling skewed towards those members willing to jump through that hoop, I've found that the outcome of any poll is mostly untrustworthy.
I am a bit concerned about that too; is logging in that much of a chore? Having said that the Poll I have set up was actually to determine (in very broad terms) how members access Groups.io. I had a public exchange of posts with one member who suggested a "dislike" of logging in (an odd word to choose IMO); he also suggested slow internet speeds at some locations, which while entirely possible still sounds rather feeble as an excuse for never logging in.

No. The hashtag was automatically created when I created the first poll.

Hi Chris,

I'm not sure if I'm the Marie you were talking about but thanks for this info. My members are having a hard time voting in the polls and are a bit confused with the move here. I know it's going to take them a bit but I am learning right along with you.

Thanks again for your help,
Marie Alline

To vote, you first have to log in. It's always a good idea to say that in the polling question, and provide a link to the login instructions at?/static/help#password

Marie; further to my earlier post what seems more likely is that "someone" checked the Replies by Mods Only box which is part of the "Poll" hashtag. Go to your hashtags page, and click "Edit" on your Poll hashtag and then look right down at the bottom of the page that appears.

Marie; this may sound like a very silly question but did you set up a #Poll hashtag before starting? If you didn't then something strange may well have happened. Have a look at the relevant message on your Group message page; is there a #Poll hashtag present in the Subject?
