New Group Not Being Created From Yahoo Groups

As long as the receiving group does not appear in your "In Process" pull-down, you will not be able to check transfer progress, nor will you be able to click the "Give Go Ahead to Transfer" button in Step 4. If we cannot get past this, it's premature to even be talking about inviting the transfer agent. Did one of your co-owners initiate the transfer??This seemed to be the problem with Keith H's transfer, and he ended up contacting support to clear the logjam. I believe there are other ways to fix it without contacting support, but let's be sure we know what the problem is first, taking things one step at a time. Ken, "If you delete an email address from the member list, can they join again Yes. I've removed and re-invited the same address innumerable times in my test Yahoo Group, including recently to check on Cathy's report. Given some of the odd things Yahoo has done in the past, it would not ? Too true. There's always a possibility that Cathy's Yahoo Group is affected by a Invite glitch that isn't happening to all Yahoo groups. There have been off-and-on reports of Yahoo Groups not actually transmitting Invitations, but Cathy seems to have ruled that out when she was able to receive an invitation at a test address. There could also be a different kind of glitch surrounding the acceptance of the invitation via web - I think I've always accepted by email reply. If the problem were on the acceptance side I've little doubt Mark would know how to get around it, or would contact Cathy. But one thing the red box on the instructions page makes clear: Step 1 must be completed before taking Step 2 (inviting the transfer agent). So as Bruce says, if Cathy is still hung up on completing Step 1 then that's what needs to be resolved first. Cathy,
I did see the invited message in Yahoo Groups in the activity log so II meant the join rigamarole, to have your test address accept the invitation. But no matter, I still have the impression this part of the discussion is premature. I accepted the other users invite by email but I didn¡¯t get one forNaturally, that one was sent to Groups.io not to you. (note that the other user doesn¡¯t appear as a member in YahooGroups)It might take a bit of time for the accept by email to be processed, but the addresses that received and replied to the invitation should end up on your Yahoo Group's Manage Members list. By the lov I mean the list of values for In Process, this group doesAre there other transfers in that list? Is there a limit to the number of groups you can own in the freeNope. I've added some more description and screenshots to GMF's wiki page about transfers. Hopefully this will help us clear up where you are in the process. /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups#Group-Transfer-Process Let us know how your experience differs from the process outlined in the wiki page. I think it may be Yahoo but just for our group since you had no issue creating the member. Can Mark do something to bypass the need for the transfer member?
i tried again from scratch (except adding the group) and ran through the full transfer process until you need to see the Member [email protected]?for two groups, 1 group that I created (and I know I didn¡¯t do a transfer on it) and 1 that someone else created and I have no idea what she did. They both are coming ?from the same YahooGroup. The usual happened, no [email protected]?member in YahooGroups and neither group appears in the transfer in process list. I waited 4 days, just to be sure. Help! This has been about 6 weeks and I convinced the group that this would be a quick and easy transfer so I have lost all credibility! I am pretty sure that you can remove and then re add a member to YahooGroups.. Cathy |

Are you using the /yahootransfer page or the /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups page for instructions?? They amount to the same thing, but the second has more detail for each step, in sequence. Ken -
i have successfully added 6 other groups to groups.io. This will be my 15th attempt to get this group to work - 15th. Are you saying that I should just give up and use google groups instead? i started yet again today, to be careful, I created another brand new group - I verified that I am the owner - I clicked on easy group transfer - I clicked on Set Up New Transfer - I entered the existing YanooGroups groups name - I selected the new groups.io group to transfer to - I clicked on Start New Transfer Process - in YahooGroups, i invited a new member ¡°[email protected]¡± And I verifyed that the invitation went through from yahooGroups -I ?waited for a response from groups.io this is where I have gotten stuck the 15 times, I never get the response from Groups.io 15 times!!! I have wasted an amazing amount of time to have someone essentially tell me that I must have forgotten something. feel free to use the instructions I just wrote for you, they are clear cut and concise and walk you through the applicable steps, as this illustrates, I know what I am doing. i am desperately in need of help! To be told ¡°oh well, Yahoo does weird things¡±?does not help, it just pisses me off and makes me question why I stuck my neck out to convince this group to use groups.io when they wanted to use GoogleGroups. This is the 21st email in this thread. I have answered your questions, I have tried over and over and over, yet I am in the same position. What can you do to actually help me to finish what, for all my other groups, has been a piece of cake? cathy |
Cathy, i started yet again today, to be careful, I created another brand new group - I verified that I am the owner Thanks for detailing the steps you took. Without that we were simply guessing at where you might be misled. At this point, the Yahoo Group name should appear in the Existing Transfers list on the instructions page (that list used to be called In Process but I like the new name better). Does it appear? Does the text below that box indicate that there is at least one transfer in process or completed? If not, then things are already off the rails and you likely need help from [email protected] to resolve the issue. - in YahooGroups, i invited a new member ¡°[email protected]¡± The next action taken at this step is manual on Groups.io's part, and it often takes a few days for them to accept the invitation. However, in the mean time the transfer's status page (from the Existing Transfers list) should in a reasonably short period switch from saying that you need to invite the transfer agent to saying that your invitation has been received. That part is automated. If you can see this transfer's status page, what does the text in the status box at the top say? feel free to use the instructions I just wrote for you, they are clear cut and concise and walk you through the applicable steps, as this illustrates, I know what I am doing. I also just (successfully) transferred a group. I updated GMF's Wiki page with screenshots to document the steps (I need to go back and update it again to reflect the name change for the Existing Transfers list). What can you do to actually help me to finish what, for all my other groups, has been a piece of cake? Not a damn thing. Except offer our advice and observations. No one at GMF works for Groups.io, for direct help send a message to [email protected] and let them know what you've tried and where you're stuck. I would like to hear about what you learn, either way, so please post again. Maybe there's something missing from our Wiki page that would help others who get stuck as you have. The next action taken at this step is manual on Groups.io's part, and it often takes a few days for them to accept the invitation. (I need to go back and update it [ Wiki page] again to reflect the name change for the Existing Transfers list). Shal, Good! And maybe also include in the Wiki the gist of what you said above about the switch from "need to invite" to "invitation received" is automated and the rest after that is manual and takes time. Maybe even suggest it could take a week... or whatever time seems reasonable to head off premature concerns. Jim H |
Jim,
And maybe also include in the Wiki the gist of what you said aboveDone. I had to use a screen-shot from an earlier transfer for this step, as I seem to have missed it in my most recent transfer. Possibly the screen has changed, particularly the wording of status text. If anyone knows that it has please let me know, or better yet paste in an updated screenshot. Or send the screen shot to me off-list if you don't feel comfortable editing the Wiki page.
