Legacy Group pricing

James Small

I am the owner of the amateur astronomy group called MSRAL
We were part of the yahoo groups for more than 25 years.
When we migrated to Groups.io, I didn't establish the pricing...
Is it possible to get the legacy price of $110 for the premium level like I do with the Slasdialogs group?
You can send an email to me about it if you want.
Thanks for your time and consideration.

Only if its been premium continuously since the move.? Any groups upgraded to Premium now, even if they were once and downgraded to Basic, will pay the current price ($220/yr).

James, not an answer to your question - you got it already.

But there are ways you can get help from your group to help defray the costs.
See?/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/using-the-sponsorship-feature-to-defray-groups

There is also the Donation feature for premium and enterprise groups.

I have 2 questions . . .

I think I messed up, and it's costing us!

When we joined about a year and a half ago, it was
because YahooGroops went belly up.

I did a lot of research to find a new home for our group.
And Groups.io was highly recommended by some of our
members.

I really don't recall there being a limit to members for a free
acct. at that time.? We started the group with over 100 members!
But there could have been.

Then one day in February, one of our owners emailed me and said . . .
We have a problem! We're not allowed to have more than 100 members
in our free account! And we have grown to 200.?

We were afraid we'd one day find out our group got shut down for
violating the rules, and immediately paid $220 for a year's upgrade.

Our group isn't monetized. And only 2 of us are paying the fee.

1). Was the 100 member rule added after we joined? And therefore we
were grandfathered in. But didn't know it?

2). If we did have to upgrade, were we supposed to get a lower price
if we joined before that rule went into effect?

Have a look at /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/25069.? That shows when things changed and what applies to various groups.? You can look at the Billing/Upgrade page of the group in question to see Your Group Features that may be Legacy Enabled.? That means you'd keep them if you downgrade to Basic.? Unless it specifically gives a number for Members: (not shown on older groups), you have no limit.

That's not normally done, it just reverts when the paid period runs out.

this is all disturbing to me as I knew none of it.? We moved yo Groups.IO when Yahoo! Groups introduced their unworkable NEO?
platform disaster and came in with over 300 members.

Hi Sharon

It all depended on when you created your group

See /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/25069

But if no one has tapped you on the shoulder I suspect you will be okay

What do I have to do to remain "legal" My group is free and I will need to bear any expense myself!

Did you read the reply to the message you quoted (/g/GroupManagersForum/message/41347)?? I doubt that you'll need to do anything.

You don't have to do anything.

You only need to pay for groups
with more than 100 members if
your group was created *AFTER*
this rule took effect. Which
was not your case.

I have a free group with more
than 600 members -- created only
when Yahoo closed Yahoogroups --
and I didn't have to do anything.
