Forwarded attachments not coming through on Digest?

Dr. Denver Fox

I receive a lot of external messages with attachments which, when forwarded to the entire listserve, the attachments do not come through on the Digest, even though a full HTML digest is the setting.? I have tried this with one of my accounts, and I can't find the forwarded Digests anywhere.? This is from my AOL email account.

What am I missing?? Do, I need to download the attachment, and then reattach it to the forwarded email?? I can't find these attachments on the groups.io PADCO web site, either.? I can't find an answer to this in "Help" nor searching herein.

Thanks!

Disclosure; I do not know the answer, but I have some more questions that might help us work towards one!

Some clarification of your terminology would be useful. When you say I receive a lot of external messages with attachments do you mean that you personally receive them or are they sent to you as a moderator? Your mention of "forwarding" would suggest the former but some clarification might be helpful.

Either way, do the attachments appear on the group web UI or not? And do they appear on "Individual emails" when that is the chosen delivery method to subscribers?

I haven't been able to find anything relevant on any help pages (OK; I might have missed it!) but IIRC attachments are not scanned for viruses so it is possible that attachments sent by non - members of your group will be stripped off automatically.

And what is your Attachments setting in Settings? (Allow / Bounce / Strip / Moderate)

Chris and others - Tx for the response.? I am unable to find this in my settings, either for the group, recipients or myself??? The only attachment setting I find is size, which I have set as unlimited.

And what is your Attachments setting in ??Settings? (Allow / Bounce / Strip / Moderate)??

Dr. Denver Fox

I just found it and it is set to "allow" - just checked with recipient by phone, and they are not getting attachments, although I did in my monitoring Digest email address.

If you missed it, you can find it in Admin / Settings.?You can scroll to find it or just do a Control+F in your browser and ask it to Search for "Attachment".

If you don't have "Admin" in your menu choices, then you are not logged in with a Moderator/Owner email account.

I have done some tests on another group but so far have not been able to replicate any of the problem as you have reported it. Having said that I am still awaiting a digest to appear but I suspect that nothing untoward will occur. Time will tell...

However having revisited your original post I realise that you did originally report I can't find these attachments on the groups.io PADCO web site, either and overall we seem to have a collection of mutually exclusive symptoms, which is absurd.

One thought that springs to mind is the format of the attachments that appear to be not getting through. What format (or formats) are they? The tests I carried out used photographs in jpg and non - member posts revealed their attachments after moderation, and posts I submitted which were emails sent to me from a non - member; I posted them by forwarding (as per your orignal description)? and again the attachments worked.

At this moment I simply don't think we have sufficient information to progress this investigation any further; there are too many potential variables and we don't know which ones might be varying.

You might care to note that there is a subscriber setting that can stop attachments turning up, but if this setting is invoked the subscriber is sent a link (or links) from which the attachment can be obtained. Are these links turning up instead?
