Editing the <Invitation To Be Sent> field

Bob Gerard

I went to Help and then to the section of the FAQ on inviting members to join a group, but nowhere did I find if or how it is possible to edit the generic text set up in Invitation To Be Sent?

The Hello [Name] at least ought to be editable, but I can't dope out how to do so.

Thanks.

Bob -- The only part that is editable is the "Customize Message" section inserted after "The following message was included by [you]:". The remaining boilerplate cannot be changed.

What does it insert into the Hello, [NAME} field?

Hi Donald,

In the Invitation To Be Sent Field, _nothing_ can be edited.

It seems so silly that I feel I must be mistaken.

If I copied what appeared in the To Be Sent Field into the Customize Message field, it would appear that the invitee would get both the email with the message in the To Be Sent Field followed by a message created by me in the Customize Message field.

As I say, it seems so silly, I feel I must be mistaken/missing something.

If, in the entry box for Emails on the Invite page, you use the form:
Display Name <email@...>
then it will substitute in the Display Name.

If you use the plain address format it will substitute the address instead.

Correct. Only automatic substitutions are made -- [Name] and [Invitee Email Address].

It seems so silly that I feel I must be mistaken.
Note that the Invitation To Be Sent box changes content to reflect any inclusion you make via the Customize Message field. So, apart from the automatic substitutions, you can see exactly what will be sent.

If I copied what appeared in the To Be Sent Field into the Customize
Message field, ...
That /would/ be silly.

Try something like this instead:
/g/GroupManagersForum/message/2530

Got it, Shal, and understand.

Thank you for that; much appreciated.

I have the following situation regarding those Invites.

My members are elderly people who for the majority do not speak English. I've been able to get them to use the system by given them some tutorials and translating everything to Dutch.

You can imagine that when they receive an email written in English it rings their 'spam' or 'phishing' bell, so I make sure that I add my personal invitation in Dutch, in another color and so on.

The personal addition is not retained from session to session so for every invite to be send I have to open an external file, copy the text, paste it, ... before I can launch the invite.

Is there no way to prevent the fixed text to be included in the Invite?
How can I make my personal additions permanent?

Thanks In Advance,
A.J.

Not at the present time.? There has been discussion on the beta group about localization to minimize the confusion, but that may not happen for some time.? See and

I think you can add a Member Notice of the type Invite on the Settings page with your special information.? You could create several if needed, then select which to use on the drop down box in the Customize Message section on the Invite page.

I'd like to think at some point groups.io will be able to provide support for languages other than English. Having said that, I doubt that the invitation text and some other key notifications sent by groups.io will ever be fully customizable. If nothing else, a sentence or two clarifying the procedure to "opt-out" of a subscription must be present, for legal reasons.
