database file display question

In a new database file, the ID # and associated checkbox is displayed, and I'm not seeing a way to hide them.

Just curious... it seems like an unnecessary distraction.

Thanks,

Dan Linscheid?

The check box can't be disabled, but all other columns can.? Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the identifier of the column you don't want to see.? The page will refresh and you can hide other columns.? Unfortunately, at this time your choices aren't remembered, so you need to go through this each time you open a database.? There are also plans to put the control buttons at the top of the page, but no deadline given.

The Delete Rows button at the bottom of the page cannot function properly without the corresponding checkboxes.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Do all group members see those check boxes also? If they do, I can't see a reason for it.?

I wasn't sure, so checked.? Yes, all members see the boxes.? Since clicking on the row now shows that entry (including the option to edit, if allowed) the box doesn't really serve a useful purpose that I can see.? You used to click on the box, then choose View from the buttons (which still works) and might be the preferred method for some groups.? If you have the necessary permissions, you can also select several rows to delete by checking them.? I'm not sure if it would be worthwhile to only show the boxes, possibly per row, to people that could actually do one of those things.? You could suggest it on the beta group, the site suggestion box.? There will likely be some discussion about why it's needed, but at least Mark will see it and can take it under consideration.? It hasn't bothered me since it takes minimal screen space.

Thanks, Duane, I will give that a try. On my screen that box and the associated blank space takes up a lot of room, so if those having no need to see the boxes can still see them it is of no real use to them. It shoves the useful data way off to the right.

This is the first time I've heard of anyone reporting such behavior. Perhaps you could send us a screenshot??Could it be that one of the entries in Column 2 is front-padded with whitespace?

Not sure how I can attach a screen shot to these - any ideas??
?
Also, I've discovered that by clicking on the blue button at the bottom of the columns, the ID field collapses to very small, but it only appears in that viewing mode, and cannot be saved in that state.

I input all the data in the fields during the past 3 days myself, so there is no padding.

In Windows, hold down the Alt key and press the Print Screen key. This will copy the current window contents into your clipboard. Open your favorite image editor, paste the clipboard contents into a new image, and save, preferably as a JPEG.?

In the online message editor, click on the paperclip icon in the menu bar to attach the resulting file to a message.?If sending by email, use whatever your email client uses to attach something. Some email clients will also allow you to paste clipboard contents directly into a message, so this could also be an option.

Bruce,

See?attached Table.jpg and Table2.jpg

Refer to my note at the top of the former regarding clicking the blue 'ID' at the bottom of the screen. Doing so results in an immediate reformatting of the ID field shown in Table2.jpg

It looks to me as if you have somehow set the other six columns in the table (the ones containing the actual data) for fixed-width display. The ID and Updated columns thus automatically expand to fill available space in the browser window.

I suspect that removing the forced carriage returns in the data, along with some additional fiddling with the column data types, should make this table display a lot better. Someone with more experience with databases than yours truly will have to provide more explicit instructions.

Hope this helps,
Bruce
