block a sender across multiple groups?

Is there a way to block a sender across multiple groups? You can ban someone as described in the Owner's Manual.? If your groups have restricted membership you can also choose whether to allow posts from non-members or not. Posts from non-members will be held for moderation so you can filter them out that way.? This is also covered in the Owner's Manual.? Each group is a separate entity so you need to apply changes to each one. Regards Andy |

No one could ban anyone in a group where they aren't an admin of some sort, and it's not the sort of thing we'll see here in the future, so you can rest easy. That would really be way beyond what any admin could do. They could ban a person in every group where they are an admin in, as I have in my groups, but that's not what you're seeming to be concerned about. However, I do keep in touch with a couple of related groups and when we have a problem with a member, we sometimes discuss it so they can watch out for that person doing something bad in their group if that person is also a member of their group. It allows them to put that person on moderation to keep an eye on them. As far as I'm concerned, both of my groups have two settings checked:
So restricted membership is a key, then the second is? that you or a moderator moderates or bans the troublesome email address (user). But a key item IMHO is that the new members are moderated. As we? all know email addresses are a dime a dozen. You're looking at the message that the member posts prior to? allowing the spam post. The number of moderated posts might have to increase if the user learns that only the 1st message is moderated. Good Luck! Dave? F. |

In the context of the opening post, the person to be banned is (in my opinion) a spammer, and as such Mark Fletcher/Groups.io admin should? perhaps be consulted - they may well have an opinion, or feel the need to do something, or the ability to do so.Messages that violate the groups.io Terms of Service can be reported to groups.io support using the mechanism described at?/helpcenter/membersmanual/1/working-with-group-messages/reporting-messages-to-moderators-or-to-groups? ?You will have to leave the message in place long enough for support to review it. Bruce, In regards to your post - this sound like the route i need to take to get this guy who is posting to group after group - about electric bikes he's selling -? garyppnk@...? - there have been a couple different subject lines but basically the same product. I've been rejecting them asking them to stop spamming but that hasn't seemed to work as another flurry hit this morning on different groups. Thanks,? ==== Timothy, To minimize this don't even bother asking these posters to stop. Just keep them Moderated and then delete their posts without further comment. And since they are moderated the rest of the membership won't see their posts. That will make them give up eventually, especially if they get no feedback of any sort. And when they sign up using a new email address if your group(s) is/are set up for all new members to be moderated (for up to four initial posts) you will be able to catch and delete any inappropriate posts from them. Also there is also the option of setting a member to 'no posts allowed' which could be useful, too. OK ¡ª HTH Paul M. == |
Paul, Thanks I'll look into your suggestions.? I'm being hammered by electric bicycle spam, from what was once a couple of addresses to now more than a handful of addresses.? My groups are set to non-members can't post without approval which should work until some member may click on something that will compromise their address or worse. My travel group got some eBike spam too, but last month. Since the group is moderated, it wasn't sent out to members. And this group (GMF) got some too. Again blocked. I wonder why you think some member may click on something. Surely you don't approve the bike messages, not unless yours is a bike group? I wouldn't worry too much. Worse things happen at sea! Frances, What I'm saying is - if a member's personal account gets infected, someone spoofs their address it could send the bike ads to the list and I wouldn't know it until after the deed was done.? All my passle of groups are history / genealogy related and mostly location specific.? A handful are surname related while not being location related. Moderating non-member messages is a nuisance, and I suggest just turning this off. GMF gets 25+ such emails a week, and all they do is generate a log entry.?
