Accidentally Changed my groups.io Group name now can't access account

Michael Miehl

Good evening.

I am new to and just made a mistake that prevents me from accessing my account.

I am the group owner and paid for the $220 subscription. In an effort to make it easier for folks to send messages to our group, I changed the name. BIG MISTAKE!! Since I changed the name I'm getting a "can't find the server" error from my web browser when I try to access it as an administrator (not sure what others are experiencing who want to send messages). But of course, the that I paid for has the old name and the new one isn't recognized. Anyone have a clue how I can go back and change the group name to the one I originally registered? I can't get into my account to do this. I can see the group under "my groups" but when I click on it I get the error.?

This seems like it should have been much harder to do this - change the name of our group (after having paid for it, etc.) and therefore lock oneself out of the account. I'll keep trying to see what I can do but wanted to reach out to your group for help.

I appreciate your advice.?

Sincerely,

Mike

First of all, here's the help page on changing your group name. By looking at that, you might see where you went wrong.
/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/renaming-groups?single=true

It may be that there is a delay before your new group name is on the server.
That help page says:

Note:?

It might take some time for the renamed group to function normally because, due to the subdomain addressing used by Groups.io, any change to the root email address has to be propagated through the DNS entries (so the new group URL resolves into an IP address). This process can take several hours.

Renaming your main group also changes the URL of any associated subgroups.

Dear Frances,

Thank you so much.
That is exactly what happened - I was caught in the delay of the new group URL resolving into an IP address.
?It was all just newbie jitters!
Thanks again.
Sincerely,
Mike

Mike,

Do you have it the way you want now, or were you thinking of changing it back?
It sounded like you made a mistake when you changed the name. If it's the way
you want now, that's great.
