Moderator unable to change to ANNOUNCEMENT ONLY; also unable to post during Announcement Only (done by someone else now)
For two days every week, I have always had a particular moderator change the group to ANNOUNCEMENT ONLY so they get a break...but the setting still allows mods to post or change anything.? BUT SUDDENLY, she can't do the following: 1) Find the setting that always allowed her to set the group to Announcement Only (with mods still being able to post) 2) Change a post in Announcement Only (another mod has to set that now).?When she tries to change something in a post, she gets the message that?it¡¯s "an announcement only group and only moderators can do that." Any ideas what is going on?? ? |

What Frances is saying is that she might have two accounts but only
one set as moderator. If she logs in with a non-moderator account that is also a member of this same group, she won't be able to so anything a moderator could do. Have her look at the Home button of the group. Is a baby-blue "Mod" tag present? If it's not there, she isn't logged in correctly. If it is, someone has changed her permissions. Regards, Bruce Check out the groups.io Help Center?and?groups.io Owners Manual |
I also want to add:? 1) I have her permissions set IDENTICALLY to the permissions of another moderator who now has to change the group the group to ANNOUNCEMENT ONLY, yet this moderator (that this post is about) can't do it anymore.? 2) And as a moderator, she can't go in and change a post when the group is in ANNOUNCEMENT ONLY without getting the message that only moderators can do that. Yet she's a moderator.? Any other ideas?? |

Janie -- In the screenshot below, I have circled the permission that matters for switching to Announcement-only and back again. Occasionally, it seems that a setting fails to "stick." I've not experienced the problem myself, but others have reported it. Open her member record, turn off this permission, and then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Save. Repeat, except turn it back on. If she's really logged in using the correct email address, that should fix it. If that still doesn't work, the only explanation I can provide is that she might have more than one subscription to your group. Regards, Bruce? AS A SUMMARY: 1) This gal is definitely listed as a moderator and has done this for at least ten years.? 2) She is using the same email that is attached to her as a moderator.? 3) She CAN approve new members.? 4) But suddenly, she has no way to switch the group to ANNOUNCEMENT ONLY (though moderators can still post) for two days so the mods can get a break.? 5) When a different mod switches it for her, she can't go into a post to change something. She gets the warning that doing that is for Moderators only...YET she is a mod. lol. Any ideas?? |

Any ideas??I know that in an earlier post you stated I have her permissions set IDENTICALLY to the permissions of another moderator... but is that "historically correct" or have you checked today that your assertion is still valid? If it is then I am as stumped as you are; if it isn't then I suggest that you (a) restore her permissions to where they ought to be, and (b) look at the Activity log to see if you can find anywhere where her permissions might have been changed. Janie,
1) This gal is definitely listed as a moderator and has done this forGroups.io was founded a bit more than six years ago. So "done this" needs clarification. /static/about 2) She is using the same email that is attached to her as a moderator. How do you know this? Even if she says she is, she should double check what it says in the upper right corner when she clicks or hovers over her name. That will show the address that is currently logged in on the browser she's using. Also, as Bruce suggested she should verify to you that she has the Mod badge when looking at the group. 3) She CAN approve new members. If she does so by email that doesn't prove that she's logged in correctly. Any ideas??Maybe she's trying to control a different group. But the primary idea is that she's logged in using a different address than the one which is a moderator of the group. This is a clue: [she can't] 1) Find the setting that always allowed her to set theYou should follow that up with her - can she see the group's Settings page? Can she see any of the Admin collection of pages? If no to the above then she is not logged in to the correct account. If yes to the above then look into her moderator permissions. AS A SUMMARY:Re-read carefully the advice you've been given. Question your assumptions, try to gather and present evidence. If necessary have her send you screen shots showing exactly what she does and does not see.
