Spam!

开云体育

?

If you get a message of any kind from me that looks strange, like asking about your Amazon account for instance, it is SPAM! Just delete it. I have changed my Email password but they already have my contact list. L

?

I may have to change my Email address which will kill me. I’ll let you know.

?

The spam message used my Email address and went right through IO to all my group members. I don’t know how they did that and whether IO should be able to block that?? Experts?

If you are the group owner you can set your own posting privileges to moderated.

Just had a member post to our group the same ?“ Favor do you have an ?amazon account messages”?
i assume they were able to do this via posting to the email address for the group? Which was probably listed in contacts for the hacked account?

Hoping they did not expose or have access to members otherwise. I removed both of the members accounts to be safe?
I was on the site at the time and immediately advised members to not reply directly to it. Put group on moderate also.?

Anything else I need to do ? Do I need to worry about keeping everything in moderate status if I removed the accounts?

Hello I don't think you need to worry about doing anything. Especially if you've already removed the accounting question. I think before doing so, I would've contacted the members of and let them know that their account has been hacked that way they can change their password

Thank you.

Did notify them and getting them set up with different email address, which will put on moderate.

is there any setting to turn off posting via email address for the group? Or putting just those type post via group email address ?on moderate? ?Would like to prevent any individual subscribers from replying directly back to a problem.
Do not see one??

Yes. Go to the member's record, scroll to Posting Privileges, and select?Override: not allowed to post.

I suggest banning it.?/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/managing-members/banning-and-unbanning-members?

If someone's email address is hacked, the hacker can LOG IN as that person (via "email me a link"), visit the group, read messages online, gain access to files and other group content, etc. SImply turning off their ability to post is an insufficient remedy (IMO).

Not much you can do now, I think.

You can remove private replies. Change "Remove Other Reply Options". This stops future emails from being "replied all". Make sure your settings are for reply to group.

See this on message policies:
/helpcenter/gettingstarted/1/step-4-customize-the-group-s-settings/group-settings

You can lock or set individual messages to Moderate. This would stop further replies to this specific message.
Open the message and use the dropdown menu in the down arrow. And of course, you can delete the topic.

Bruce, that's a good point and I hadn't thought about it. I had this exact thing happen in one of my groups (the "Do you have an amazon account" ploy). I put the subscriber on moderation until she could fix the problem.

I don't think banning is necessary, though, unless the person ends up needing to get a new email address.

Thanks,
Pete

You could also undo the ban if things get fixed on the original address.? They'd just need to join the group again.? I've done that a couple of times.

Lots of detailed information can be found in the Owners Manual and Members Manual.

(I just realized I had intended to add "Next time I'll remove the subscriber" at the end of my first paragraph, but either I had a brain fart or a draft didn't save. Probably the former.)

Of course. I'd prefer to simply not approve the person rejoining until they tell me they've changed their password. Just a little less effort.

If you lock the topic, that'll fix the problem.

You can't ban it after the person has already been removed. So this wouldn't work in Davy's case.

Wow, I stand corrected them. I didn't think that was possible. And I do read the every day change log that comes out on Fridays. And I didn't think that was one of the things that Mark had added. So I do apologize

When I used to "run" some yahoo mailing lists, when I had a spammer, I did not
ban him, as that person would get a message saying he was banned and then,
often, he would rejoin the list using a different username and email address.

Instead, I put any such person on (permanent) moderation, but then I never
approved their messages. I don't think anyone that I handled that way ever
checked to see that their messages got to the list, because none ever
resubscribed.

As an aside: typically on most lists, I would not require moderation of their
first message. But, if someone violated the list rules, I would then put them
on moderation.

Some of us (like me) have members who wish their posts to be seen only by other members. Same reason we keep our archives private rather than public.
