Calendar not consistently sending reminders
#cal-reminder
Gayle Booth
I have populated my group's calendar with birthdays and anniversaries of members.? Each event was set to notify the group 5 days in advance.? I must have some setting wrong as notifications are sent inconsistently.? Example:? next week May 1 & May 2, members have birthdays.? Only notification of the May 2 event was sent to the group.? I just checked on each event's set up and they appear identical to me with a reminder to be sent to group 5 days in advance of the event.? Any ideas on why this might be happening?

Gayle, I must have some setting wrong as notifications are sent inconsistently.? Are the notices appearing in your group's Messages page consistently, or are the same ones missing from both the web and your email Inbox? Any hashtags in the Event Name fields? Any ideas on why this might be happening? Not really. Inconsistency like that I usually associate with email Spam filters, hence the first question. Any hashtags in the Event Name fields?
Shal, thanks for your reply.? I have all member birthdays & anniversaries on the calendar and set with a reminder to be sent to all 5 days before the event.? I checked and there are no reminder messages in the group messages or my personal mailserver from our groups.io calendar reminders since March 28.? Prior to this the emails were generated as expected 5 days prior to the event. Any ideas? Gayle? |
Gayle, I checked and there are no reminder messages in the group messages or my personal mailserver from our calendar reminders since March 28.? Prior to this the emails were generated as expected 5 days prior to the event. Make sure the events have not been cancelled. I think this applies only to events with RSVPs, which are a Premium feature. Have any of them been showing up in your group's Pending messages page? It is possible for event reminders to require moderator approval (irrespective of the group's Moderated checkbox). I would go to your group's Hashtag's page and click on the Edit button for #cal-reminder. Make sure none of the hashtag options are set, or look into the function of any that are. I don't see any that would result in a message being missing from both the archive and one's email inbox, but maybe there's something I haven't noticed. Do likewise for any hashtags that appear in the event's Event Name field. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

No events cancelled (we are not a Premium Group) No pending messages.? Nothing awaiting moderator approval. I checked Hashtag Options & no boxes were checked.? I checked the boxs for 1) send as a special message and 2) replies unmoderated. I did not have a #Events so I created one.? I noticed the calendar entries (birthdays, anniversaries, meetings, etc) are all "events".? Could this be the missing link? ?
Thanks for your help Shal.? I'll let you know if this change works to trigger emails to members when the next "event" is scheduled.

Gayle,
I'm not sure why you did, but it should be harmless. Note that the messages generated by calendar events all carry a default hashtag. Those are #cal-invite, #cal-notice, and #cal-reminder.
I'm not certain what you mean. Whatever purpose you use it for, every entry in the calendar goes by the generic term "event". I think that's just shorter than saying "calendar entry" to refer to them. Normally the hashtags (either automatic, or placed by you in the event's Event Name field) wouldn't have any effect on the delivery of any of the messages that the event might generate. So this whole side discussion about hashtags ought to be a red-herring in terms of why you're not getting the expected messages. But hashtags do have some powerful options, which is why I advised you to check on them. Gayle,
I've run into similar problems with our club's 2 monthly meetings.? I have each one of them setup in the group's calendar to send out reminders 1 day and also 2 hours before the meeting times.? It is "wonky" at best. Most times the 1-day prior reminder does come out; rarely, if ever, does the 2 hours one get sent out;? neither came out for today's meeting at 13:30 EST. I mentioned this issue a year or two ago in the GMF - back when I was setting them up as recurring.? At that time it was pointed out that the recurring feature was buggy and not recommended so I stopped setting them up that way and have done each month manually since then.? It works better but in no way has it been 100% reliable for me.? So I now send also out meeting reminders via MailChimp and also post them on our website.? I do put the Zoom link in our groups.io calendar event for security purposes. Please let me know if you resolve the issue. Kind regards, -chuck |
A few days ago I set up the first two monthly calendar reminders for our street's group, by popular demand, to remind members when street sweeping (and ticketing) will occur.? I ran one test, which worked.? The first real reminders will go out next month.
When you say it was pointed out that the recurring feature was buggy and not recommended, it made me wonder whether that is still true and I should look for another solution. Is the recurring feature still buggy? |
