What are the issues we may face with Direct Adding members?
#direct
Hi,
We're exploring groups.io to transfer our 1300 strong subscriber list, and I see that there has been a limit imposed on the number of direct adds before you have to wait for approval. Is there a place with more info on the Direct Add process on the whole? If not, I have a few questions...

Denise, I am also administrating a new group.? I would like similar info especially on #2. FYI - i have just moved from Yahoo to Groupsio in December.? Our group is 550 strong.? Everything transferred?very neatly.? Now it's just a learning curve about how to effectively manage the group and it's features.? i really wish there was an operators manual or something.? I did the transfer with the Groupsio bulk transfer facility.?? I believe, and I have no proof of this,? but as you add directly Groupsio builds a groupsio account as you go.? So between the invite and the member acceptance,? groupsio has everything it needs to create an account for that member.? At least that is the way it seems like it is working for me. We are a non-profit finding job opportunities for experienced sales and marketing?in the Twin Cities area.?? See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/20-Invitations-Limit It is an anti-spam security measure. It is fast. ? 2. Yes, members remain if you downgrade to free. In fact, it is recommended that you get premium for a month if you have a large group of members to add all at once. 3. They must register with Groups.io with the email address. But it is automated when you direct add someone. If they don't have an account with that email address, they will get the necessary email that creates it. Check out the help in the wiki.?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/home especially logging in - feel free to poach bits! Until you mentioned job hunting, I thought the group was for coffee lovers of Starbucks. :)
Otherwise, Our group is 2,783 membership coming over from GeoCities to Yahoo to GroupsIO.? Since the move, 91 have signed up.? That's not even a full 5% of the old membership.? Thus, this topic has my interest greatly.?? Many of our group's folks are mechanics and not computer savvy.? Sure, they can read emails on their smarty phones and reply, but put them in front of a computer and they become lost. Before the move from Yahoo to GroupsIO, folks asked if the membership needs to just be 'switched' without doing anything on their part.? Without funds, it wasn't possible to do this. Hoping to hear how this goes.? I wouldn't mind entering a few dozen to a few hundred in batches. BMaverick |

i really wish there was an operators manual or something.?The GMF wiki is reasonably good operators manual! A few months ago, Mark (site owner) said he had hired a company to write a User Manual, but hasn't given any updates. Anyone that's a member of a group has an account.? They won't initially have a password (and really don't need one if they don't want.) As far as Direct Adds (or Invites), you can enter them all at once.? There will be a delay if more than 20, but often only a couple of hours. This is my current understanding, otherwise someone could pretend to be that member and go there with no password. (*** assuming the group is setup as such that access is to members only, not public) Cheers, Christos |

See /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Logging-In? Since it goes to their email address, no one can impersonate them unless they have access to the email address.? There have been a few cases that I know of where a member never had a password, but would log in now and then.? (If you visit at least once per 30 days and don't delete cookies, you don't need to log in again.) If you have already got a small number of members in a group using Invite, then use Direct Transfer to bulk add a lot more, does it ignore the email addresses of people who are already members?Yes, both Invite and Direct Add will skip over any addresses that are already in the Member List. Bruce |
To clarify, do you mean by bulk transfer, a CSV file of subscribers to send an invite to?

Or using the paid for option which I cannot comment on as I haven't used it If the former, yes it does Its a very good system If anyone is already subscribed, it does not send to them After sending at the top of the invites page is a summary of how many were sent and how many weren't and the reason At any point after the sending you can select "sent invitations" Which tells you who were sent invites and when, and their status Status could be Sent, Accepted , Failed You can select any not Accepted and repeat the invite, or for failed you can remove them An excellent system IMHO Ah I see you have the answer on bulk transfer Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 17/01/2020 15:59, Jeff Coleman via Groups.Io wrote:
