How do I reply to message in Digest Mode?
In trying to reply to a message in Full Digest it says: Do not reply to this email. To reply to a message, click the Reply link under the message.
I'm working in Outlook and when I click either Reply to Group or Reply to Sender, it opens Windows Mail. So I tried opening the digest mail there, clicked on Reply to Group and it opened another Windows mail window. I tried this a number of times.? What am I doing wrong???D Ruth D |
In trying to reply to a message in Full Digest it says:?Do not reply to this email. To reply to a message, click the Reply link under the message.Hi Ruth, Yes, the digest has Do not reply to this email. To reply to a message, click the Reply link under the message. And when you scroll down to a message, each message should have a few reply options, including View/Reply Online. This should be there for each message: View/Reply Online | Reply To Group | Reply To Sender | Mute Topic | Top ^ | New Topic So you can read or reply online, if you prefer. Or click for that specific message and reply by your email. There might be another issue because of Outlook. Someone else might have more info. But in the meantime, hope this helps! I'm working in Outlook and when I click either Reply to Group or Reply toYes, traditionally that's how it used to be. You correct the email-address you want the message to go to, put in the correct subjectline, and delete all non-relevant pieces of quote. I'm not sure whether it will end up in the right thread in groups.io though. I think it should, but it's not my decision.. The way groups.io is set up you're supposed to click "reply to this message" and compose your reply online. This makes it harder to reply to several messages in the same digest in one go. groetjes, Ronaldo |
I'm not sure why Reply to Sender, or Reply to Group doesn't open a reply, but opens a new mail window where I get to see all my mail.? Yes, I can go to groups.io, find the message I want to reply to and type a reply, as I am doing here. Just don't understand why there's a Reply to sender option, if it's not usable.?

Ruth D, I'm not sure why Reply to Sender, or Reply to Group doesn't open a reply, but opens a new mail window where I get to see all my mail.? It should open a message composition window in your email interface, with the To and Subject fields filled in. That's basically all it can do given the limitations of a mailto link (which is what those are). If it isn't opening a new message composition, but is just opening your email Inbox, that's something about how your default email is configured on your computer or device. Ah! Thank you for clarifying that.
What it's?supposed to do is --Open that new mail window --Create a new mail item --Insert the proper [mygroup]@groups.io address --Insert the proper Subject (same Topic) Move the Insertion Pointer into the body This is done (hover your cursor over the "Reply to Group" link and look at the bottom of the screen) by the URL associated with "Reply to Group", which looks like this: mailto:[email protected]&Subject=MyTopic Your mail isn't quite configured right, so the window opens, but the rest of the info (To, Subject) is not honored. How you do this depends on what application you use for mail. Larry? |

For your convenience I am pasting the corresponding section of that web page below. Follow the instructions and change the Current Default entry for MAILTO links from Windows 10 Mail to Outlook and you should be set. Bruce The following was cut-and-pasted from? On Windows 7 through 10, first go to?Control Panel > Programs > Default Programs > Set Associations?and click on?Associate a file type or protocol with a program. Now scroll down to the?Protocols?section, look for the?MAILTO?row, and double-click on it. You¡¯ll then be able to select an email client of your choice (provided you have already installed it on your computer) from the popup that appears. You¡¯ll also find an option to get an email app from the Windows Store and immediately associate it with mailto: links from the popup. |
Sorry Bruce; I didn¡¯t ¡°get¡± it the first time. Here I use gmail, but on an alternate Groups IO account, I use Hotmail via Outlook and that¡¯s where my problem is/was. I didn¡¯t realize that Outlook wasn¡¯t my default email and never ran into this problem before.? Following the instructions and after poking around for 20 minutes ¨C and I realize that whatever how-tos describe as the procedure, there¡¯s many views and way to get there, but the final process for me was (on Windows 10): Control Panel Items, click on Control Panel in URL area, Programs>Default Programs>Associate a file type or protocol with a program, click on app under Email, select Outlook And that worked.? Thanks a bunch Bruce. -- Ruth D |
