bouncing, forgot password #bouncedemails

Hello,

I searched but couldn't find an answer to this problem.

I have a group member whose messages have been bouncing. I asked her to log in and change her email address (she can receive messages from me, but not from Groups.io) but she replied that she can't. She forgot her password and the reset email bounces!

She did request this:
If you could forward me one of the bounced emails then I can share that with the?company that hosts our [domain].? We already?opened a ticket to fix the problem but they didn't find one!? So more info would help.
My questions:
1. Is it possible to forward her a bounced email as she requests?
2. What is the best way to resolve the problem of her not receiving emails?

Thanks!
Su

Hi Su,

Did you check out the wiki page on bouncing?

Su,

1. Is it possible to forward her a bounced email as she requests?

You can't get the whole bounced email, but following Frances' advice you can get what they probably need: the Reason given by the member's email service when it rejected ("bounced") a recent message.

2. What is the best way to resolve the problem of her not receiving emails?

If the problem is recurring bouncing, she needs to get her email service's cooperation to resolve whatever problem is causing them to reject group messages. Sometimes it is a matter of getting them recognize that Groups.io is a legit email list service and remove the rate limiting or other blocks they put in the path of "unknown" email sources.

Either that, or get another email service.
Shal

Assuming you exhaust your efforts to get her current mail provider to accept groups.io messages....

If you have a Premium group, you can change her email address for her. Just open her record in the Member List and make the change. If you don't have a Premium group, you can gain Premium features for a month by paying $10.

Failing that:

1) Open her old user record.
2) Delete it.
3) Have her resubscribe to the group using another email address (i.e.: send a blank email to [email protected].
4) Have her create a new login password...and write it down this time.

This will mostly achieve the same objective as "changing her email address"...at least for your group. The only downside is that she will lose "ownership" of previous posts and uploads.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Thank you for all the replies!

Frances -- thanks. Yes I did read that Wiki before posting.

Shal -- thank you. I will send her that info and go from there.

Bruce -- thanks. Would it be possible to merge the accounts rather than simply delete the old? I guess not if she lost the password?

Su --?Below are the steps necessary to perform an account merge.

1) Log into the account that you want to inactivate.
2) Pull down the menu at top right and select Account (or browse to?/account)
3) In the "Email" field at the top of the page, enter the address you want to merge into.
4) Click the "Change Email" button.
5) Groups.io will notify you of the fact that the account already exists, and ask if you want to merge them.?
6) Click the blue button below this notification to confirm your intent to merge.
7) An email will be sent to the destination email address.?
8) Clicking on the link in that email will complete the merge.

If she can't log into the old account, she won't be able to complete Step 1, and the merge is not possible.

Regards,
Bruce

Thank you, Bruce! That's what I was afraid of.

I did send her the information from the "Recent bounces" list etc. and approved her new email so she can start receiving messages again. My hope is that she will continue to work with her ISP and get it resolved at their end so that she can merge the accounts later on.

Of if not, I'll give it a while and then delete the old one that's not working.
