Question for joiners

Robert

When I set up my restricted Y! group many years ago, I was able to include a question that applicants wishing to join had to answer before the application would even be allowed through to me. I want to do that to the groups.io group I have set up (or at least know how to retrospectively). It seems this can't be done retrospectively on Y! groups either. I tended to use what the applicant said to judge if they could join or not. Is there a way on groups.io?

Hi Robert, in the group settings for your group under membership notices there is a place where you can paste those questions and then when a person requests membership of your group that application gets sent their way, then they would fill out that form and send it back.? I hope that this helps you.? Steph

Hi Steph,

Can't think why I didn't see this myself! But many thanks.

I would like to see a 200-character or so comment from the applicant before the application gets to the pending queue.? Is it feasible to incorporate a text box on the application page?

Terry,

Yes indeed that's what I want to happen, and I hoped it would with the membership notice added as described by Steph. But I tried it out, added a message, then signed out, found my group and joined simply by adding another email address. Sure enough my membership notice email came through, but so did another joining email with a confirmation link. Clicking that link joined my other 'me' as a pending member, but by the looks of it unable to post or see messages until approved. So it seems to do the job.
