Bounces can occurs only when
Groups.io send messages
***TO YOU***.

They reffer to messages you
RECEIVE from the groups, not
messages you send to them.

If with your current settings
you receive emails from a group,
then you can fall in bouncing
in that group if something fail.

Web interface is how I always accessed the groups: here, and even back in the Yahoo Groups days.? I already get too many emails (both valid emails, and SPAM).? Not only that, but when using the Web interface all the messages in topics are threaded (like on other online forums I participate in), so you can easily scroll through the older, chronologically-organized messages. You can follow the conversation easily, without relying on whether someone quoted the previous messages or not.? You also have instant access to all of the other group's features (Photos, Files, Polls, etc.)

The Web interface for me is the only way to go.

Try selecting the "Remove other reply options" checkbox in your group Settings and see if that helps.

People will still be able to send private replies (there's no way to completely eliminate that) but it will require more steps on their part.

Re: No reply online, wen relied by email?

Could they be using the "reply to sender" link at the bottom of the emailed post
instead of "reply to group"?

Any reason why that would be?

This is a bit short on detail; is there anything in the relevant group's Activity log which might give a clue? Sending from a non - member email address might be one possibility. While not appearing on - line are the replies being sent out (i.e. out to the members) by email??

Chris?

Yeah, instead of email spam they are happy with inline spam (i.e. ads) in their social media feeds!

At least with email spam one can more-or-less intercept most of it, which is not the case with (most) social media apps.

Many of us prefer to receive emails, but occasional bounces and false positive spam are the price for that preference. Young digital natives, like my grandchildren, cannot believe how much email users are willing to put up with. When I talk about spam, they ask why I bother with email and roll their eyes. I suspect, because the younger generation don't care about email spam, there is little incentive for outfits like Apple to invest much in dealing with spam more effectively.
Best, Marv?

I too just got an email from a member saying his mac.com address was bounced.? We rarely get bounces - maybe one every few months - so I was really surprised when I looked at the Admin->Members->Bouncing and saw 29 members with mac.com, me,com and icloud.com addresses there.? Not sure when it started sine I've been away from the admin stuff for a week or so.

We are an Apple User Group so we have numerous members with those types of emails -- and they're ertainly not going to change their email accounts.

I guess I'll just have to send them each Bounce Probes and put a general announcement out to all.

What does that mean, and (how) can I get the content of this digest?

You can't. Your best bet is to check the online message archive for posts that occurred around that timeframe.

Digests are generated and sent by email on a subscription-by-subscription basis, starting at #1 (i.e.: the first digest after you switched to that form of delivery) and incrementing by one each time. Thus, your Digest #2427 might be my Digest #2.

As for which messages they contain, that's determined largely by your time zone, but also any Advanced Preferences that appear in your Subscription, topics you may have followed/muted, etc.

As such, digests cannot be linked to or otherwise reconstructed.

Bruce

As explained previously, if you want a comprehensive view of your own bounce history, go to the?Bounces page for your?account?at?/account?page=bounces.

If you're only looking at your Email Delivery History in one group, it will provide a number for total bounces, but it stands to reason that you'll only be provided with links to messages that were bounced in that group. Keep in mind that this same page is also available to group Owners (and Moderators with proper permissions), and they shouldn't be able to view activity that occurred elsewhere.

I believe it means that the decided that the message was a fake/phishing attempt.? There's no way to get the digest now.? You'll just have to go online and see which messages you missed, once you determine which group it was.

Re: If no message was sent, how are there Bounces? #bouncedemails

No. I am READ-only, therefore I need to receive the emails so that I can read them. I am subscribed to receive all emails from that group. I just don't reply to any of them, therefore I have not sent any messages to that group, not by my own fingertips.
Just an FYI, I guess you understand there is no ¡°read-only¡± setting in normal groups in groups.io

You are just describing your behaviour with the group, not a group subscription preference.

If you wish to receive no email and log into the group to read messages online, you can do that. (Some groups disallow ¡°no email¡±; in that case you can choose ¡°special notices only¡±.) Easy to change it in Subscription in the menu on the left in the group homepage.

Anything that shows on your Email Delivery History page will be messages that Groups.io sent out, bouncing or unsuccessful.? If you're only concerned about bounces, you can look on your account Bounces page for a collection from all groups (after you're logged in).

If you try to send a message by email to Groups.io and it is rejected for some reason, you can expect a NDR (non-delivery report) back to your email account and the reason for rejection will be given in that. You should also find an entry on the activity log to say why the message was rejected.

But this is what had me wondering.

I did not consciously send any message by email to Groups.io related to that group -- at least, none by my own control.? But I wondered if someone or something else sent a message on my behalf.? That was the whole reason for my post here.? And if they did that, might they also have rigged it so that the bounce report gets redirected to them instead of me?

As for the Activity log, that's no help here because I am just a lowly member, not a Moderator.

This all might be about messages from GIO to me, bounced at my end.? But it's hard to tell; and after studying them for a few hours (actually several days, off and on), I came to the conclusion that the listed "Bounces" seemed to be about what happened at GIO's end.? OK, I probably was wrong.

Unsuccessful means that the message couldn't be delivered to you, usually referring to a hard bounce (5xx code) such as an inaccessible email account.? A bounce (4xx code) means that Groups.io tried several times to send the message, but wasn't able to get it through for whatever reason.

Ah.? I knew there had to be a reason.? Not that I know the difference between a 5xx code and a 4xx code.

And yet, even with that explanation, it still doesn't make sense to someone like me.? Why would a nonexistent email account (4xx code?) not count as an inaccessible email account (5xx code)?? (Surely lawyers must have come up with those terms, right?)

But it's good to know that there is a technical reason for the difference.? Best to leave it where it is.
