I would be interested in participating but not being in charge.As a GMF member you can contribute content to the wiki. The existing pages could always use proofreading and updating, or use the New Page button to start a new topic. When you think the topic is ready to be "published" you can add a link to it on the wiki home page, or ask me to do that for you. Meanwhile, you can get back to your page through the "Pages" drop-list. I really think a detailed Help option is very much needed.Me too. Even Mark agrees, which is part of why he added a link to GMF from the beta@ home page. Shal |

Shal, I think I owe you a bit of apology. ?I had not thought this idea out very much but felt it had to be verbalized since I haven't found any real help for members who have not yet gone online to use groups.io. Possibly a subgroup might be a good idea but i think you would also have to have a division in the Wiki as Frances suggested it prepare for future easy identification of possible member help information that we might convince Mark to include in his zendesk stuff. BTW I have told Mark of this. |

Thanks for the idea Frances. ?But a cursory look at the TOC in the Wiki indicates all of the info is currently for current and new group owners/moderators. Nothing for the poor newbie. ?I agree that a specific top level pair of Member and Group Owner/Moderator would give all of us what a good forking point. I personally like member rather than participant which smells a bit offstandish and powerless. ?Member seems to imply more gravitas to me. I would be glad to provide both procedures as add in text here to individual messages. ?That way anyone who wishes could try them out with only simple modification. Bob |

I am aware of your work here and at someplace we used to be; was it called "soontobeverzonmaybe"? I think it's too soon to consider starting a sub group. ?I just floated it here after a short conversation with Mark and actually writing two very short procedures for our members who either are newbies or members of our group at yahoo which is essentially the same thing. Sticking the aides in an internal Wiki is less effective than making them available on the groups.io Help thingy.because that's the only place available to them until they actually get online. ?I guess it would be ok to use the Wiki here to propose, review, stage and offer them to Mark. But we would first need consensus from some group managers that they are needed and at lease some would try them out on their groups. Bob |

Would anyone be interested in forming a special interest group thatI've been promoting GMF's wiki as a gathering place for such information: both information for moderators, and information for moderators to share with their members. And discussion about the content of such would be on topic here, for the most part. If people want a more focused special interest group, I'd be happy to make a subgroup in GMF for the purpose. I've been short of round tuits lately, but let me know if there's anything I can do to help advance this cause. Shal |

Hi I am interested in theory, but will be busy for the next few weeks.? I looked at the Help available from the Groups.io home page and it is more aimed at those wanting to start a group rather than participants. A modest proposal - start by looking at the content already there and separate it into something like GroupManager and Participant. It is possible that as a start, Mark would be willing to put in this breakdown.? Frances |

Yes making those 0.0 things was the numbers level (did not understandAs I think you've discovered, it sets the nesting depth for the TOC; from h1 down to the number you set. I normally use 1 or 2, I haven't had a document large enough for 3 or more to make sense. I do remember seeing it in the past and just NOW found the crazy thing!Heh, yes. I see you've put a yellow highlight on the "magic wand" that is the style tool. Why are snips suddenly fuzzy? The same snip pasted in an email messageImages pasted inline in a message body are automatically resized if they are taller or wider than 640 pixels. Images attached as files may be resized, according to a group setting. Shal |

Thank you for your replies. I have joined the Beta group David (as you suggested) but someone else had previously advised against it due to it possibly being confusing if you are not of that ilk. I'm not and have found the messages so far way beyond me, so I will switch to no email from that group and ask any further basic questions here. Is that okay? I'm new to all this so if I'm asking in the wrong groups - please feel free to tell me!

I tried to follow your directions for putting a ToC in a wiki page.Interesting. Did you perhaps make those paragraphs h4 style, and not have any h1, h2 or h3? I can reproduce your results that way, as long as I also set the number of levels up to 4. Any ideas what I need to do?Start at h1 style and descend from there? I know it looks huge, but that's what the TOC mechanism uses. Unfortunately the style selection in Groups.io's wiki is rather limited. I've just learned to live with it. A blatently missing piece is the photo insert toolbar button. Mark knows, but hasn't gotten the round tuit yet. You can use the code view tool to insert <img> tags that reference images hosted within the group or externally, but that's rather wonkish. Shal |

Am I correct in understanding there is no need to create any sort ofAn account is created for you automatically the first time you type in your email address (or send a +subscribe command by email, or reply to an invitation by email). E.g. As you know, with Yahoo you have to create a Yahoo account (unlessIn Groups.io whatever email address you use is your account ID for log in - you don't need to create a new account name or ID specific to Groups.io. I'm waffling but in short is this correct - you join groups IO with yourGroups.io doesn't run its own email service, so no you don't create a new email address there. You use whichever address at whatever service you prefer. A nifty feature of Groups.io is that you don't even need to set a password for yourself (though you can if you prefer to). When you type in your email address at the site you are prompted to verify your email address - the site sends you an email with a link in it. When you click that link you are logged into the site for 30 days. While you're logged in you can go to your profile and set a password if you like, or when your 30 days is up you can just have the site send you another login email. This is real handy on mobile devices, where typing a strong password can be a chore. 2. Can you attach photos to emails to send to the group?Yes, either posting by email or posting on site. Shal |
