Re: message numbers
The message numbers are shown in various places, depending on the view you've selected.? In Topics View, they don't show until you select a Topic.? Then they're at the upper right side of each post.? In Messages View, they're right after the posters name just below the snippet.? In Expanded View, they're at the upper right of each message.
In the Activity log, the message number is included when each message is posted.? On moderated messages, it's shown on the Approved entry. Duane |

If some folks aren't getting copies by email of things they send, it could be related to the default setting in gmail.? That can be corrected by each individual by selecting the checkbox for "I always want copies of my own messages" on the Preferences page of their Account.? There may be other services that also do this, but gmail is the most well known. Duane |
Re: Message Formatting
Another benefit of plain text is that people with vision limitations see text in their preferred font and size without having to do any conversion stuff. Plain text uses the recipient's own set preferences for font and size on their display.

I have a couple of groups set to Plain Text Only. That removes all formatting so you see only plain text. How to recover a lost or abandoned Yahoo Group and transfer it to Groups.io
Is there any way to recover and re-initiate an abandoned Yahoo Group?
As I understand it, Yahoo groups can be set to Unmoderated, Moderated, or Moderated For New Users until they establish their trustworthyness. The Group Eudora.win is a public group with 253 members founded July 3, 2001. It contains a wealth of historical information about the vintage Eudora email client that many still use. Unfortunately the Moderator has disappeared and for a year or more now very few are able to post - only those who for whatever reason were not on moderation. Is there any way for Yahoo to review the status of the Group, see it's value to the Eudora community, and attempt to in some way light it up again. Perhaps Yahoo could attempt to contact the Moderator and if he/she appears to be deceased then pass the task on to another person? I don't see how the current Moderator would possibly object to a process like that. The body of knowledge held by the 253 members is too valuable to loose access to. Alternatively, is there any way for a user (not the moderator) to copy everything over to a new groups.io account? Sincerely, -Harry |
Members not seeing their own messages/spoofing
I have just had my group transferred to groups.io, and most things seem to have gone very smoothly.
However, I have some members who are unable to see the messages they are sending to the list, though they see others, and other people can see theirs. Since it is only some people, I assume it is not a global setting. Has anyone any suggestions as to how I can advise my members. There doesn¡¯t seem to be any pattern of the email addresses. A few people have also received this message back: [This sender failed our fraud detection checks and may not be who they appear to be. Learn about spoofing at ] Any ideas? Re: reply to sender
Win,
?
You can't. The limitation is with those types of links ("mailto:"). Better to use your email interface's own Reply function, even though that may require copy/pasting the sender's address. And assuming you're not reading a digest.
Or use the View/Reply Online link rather than reply in your email interface. You can use the Private button there to reply to Sender instead of group (assuming Group is the group's default). ?
?
It is sort of at the edge between and your email interface. When a link is used to start a new message there are limits to what information can be passed in the link, and not all email interfaces support the same features.

Re: Message Formatting
Sharon, Plain Text Only strips out HTML formatting, leaving just the plain text of the message. Does ¡°strip out HTML messages¡± mean the messages aren¡¯t delivered? ??
Unlike the similar Yahoo Groups feature I don't believe it rejects messages which have no text/plain part. I suppose I should double-check that in my test group. Or you could, want an invite? ... but am not sure what ¡°normalizing¡± means. Does it strip formatting and leave plain text? Shal |
Re: Messages from non-subscribers
Sharon, I want to be sure that it means only subscribers of the main group can post to subgroups. Not the public. The main list is restricted. ?
Sorry, it means the public. One mitigation is that such messages are always moderated.
I have a subgroup set that way in my PTA group, and the number of "outsider" postings have been so small that I'm not sure I can remember if it has ever happened. But of course your mileage may vary - my PTA group isn't very large or well-known.
BTW, you've asked this one before, #5... ;-)
?
Is there a point by point explanation of these settings somewhere? The help page is slowly growing, but not there yet. Nor has anyone tackled the task in GMF's wiki that I know of.

Messages from non-subscribers
I would like members of the main group to be able to send messages to subgroups even if they are not members of the subgroup. The setting allow non-subscribers to post obviously allows that.

Message Formatting
Message formatting includes:
Force HTML Emails Make all emails HTML and remove the plain text digest option. Normalize HTML Emails Strip all different fonts and colors from HTML emails. Plain Text Only Strip out HTML messages Force HTML is definitely not what I want but am not sure what ¡°normalizing¡± means. Does it strip formatting and leave plain text? Does ¡°strip out HTML messages¡± mean the messages aren¡¯t delivered? Or is the html converted to plain text meaning paragraphs of gibberish? What I want is plain text emails but I don¡¯t want messages sent as html to be made weird or rejected. I¡¯m setting up about 15 subgroups so all these settings are a lot of work. I don¡¯t want to have to go back and change them. Sharon ---- Sharon Villines Takoma Village Cohousing, Washington DC |
