The same thing happened to a Y!Mail user in my group this morning. Perhaps it was a system glitch in one of their mail servers.

Re: Searching Directory #directory

Can't believe a search feature wasn't made available for the Directory. We have over 1,500 members, they are not about to go through the list page by page by page by page etc looking for someone... :(

Re: Bouncing YMail Members ID'd After Transfer - J_Catlady Follow Up Post

Paul -- My experience suggests this problem has little to do with whether they were using Yahoo as an email server.

Check their account settings on the old Yahoo group. I suspect 80-90% were set to "no email." They probably changed email addresses long ago and decided to change their delivery preferences instead of unsubscribing.?

If you don't have a valid email address, there is nothing you can do. Groups.io will continue to send bounce probes for awhile before giving up.?At that point you should probably delete their subscriptions.?If you lose a few members that haven't been participating anyway, you haven't lost much.

Bruce

P.S. If they want to, members have the option of setting up email aliasing on their account page. As a group owner, you cannot do this for them.

Re: Bouncing YMail Members ID'd After Transfer - J_Catlady Follow Up Post

Paul,

I'm wondering if anyone has an idea of how or knows how to get past this rejection to contact these members?

Prior to Anita's message I would have said that most likely those are simply dead (abandoned) email addresses which Yahoo Groups' mechanism failed to identify as "Bouncing". In later years their mechanism tended toward errors in both directions (some good ones listed as bouncing, some bad ones not).

But now it seems that at least a few cases are temporary permanent failures. That is, a case like Anita's where the error code and text indicates a permanent failure (no such address, no such account, etc.), yet that error is either random or temporary and the user's address is in fact valid.

In those cases patience may pay off.
?
Also, will Groups.io take any action on the bounces?

Yes, if the "B" on their address is blue ("bouncing"), no if it is red ("bounced"). While the address is still considered "bouncing" Groups.io will periodically send a probe message. If the member receives and responds to that probe their email address will be "unbounced". But after a while Groups.io will give up on that and switch the status to "bounced". In either status, you can click a button to send an ad-hoc probe message if you have some reason to believe or hope that the problem with the address has been fixed.

Re: Searching Directory #directory

I was just looking for the answer to this question. I don't see any way to do that. I wish there were because we, too, have the members list enabled for only owners and moderators.

Not at this time. This has become a frequently requested feature.

The user could also try switching to a plain-text digest. These these tend to be better accepted by spam filters because they contain no hyperlinks.

Dan,

Is there a way to use on your own custom invitation message? The system seems to merge my custom info with the original generic invite.

No, you can't eliminate the boilerplate. But you can marginalize it:

Bouncing YMail Members ID'd After Transfer - J_Catlady Follow Up Post

Hello All,
?? ?? This is a continuation of an email sent by J_Catlady in Dec 2017. J_Catlady identified that after her transfer from YGroups that she had a few members bouncing who were Yahoo Mail members. They were not identified as bouncing in YGroups.
?? ?? A little over a week ago I transferred a group of 780 members from YGroups and 2 of the YGroup members were not transferred because of bouncing, neither had Yahoo email. Upon looking through the new Groups.io members list, I've found 52 bouncing with 45 of them having Yahoo email addresses. Before I delete them, I send an email from my Yahoo email address to assure that they are bouncing. So far I've only sent 5, all have bounced with a Yahoo 554: delivery error. It appears that this code covers several reasons, some have to do with account settings and the use of an alias email.
????? I'm wondering if anyone has an idea of how or knows how to get past this rejection to contact these members? Also, will Groups.io take any action on the bounces?
Thanks,
Paul, Ohio, USA

Shal thanks for telling me how to find out.
?
It is weird because it said my email which is yahoo for years was not a yahoo account.
?
I unbounced myself and now it is working. Wondering why that happened?

Re: Transferring UK Group

It is likely that "@" works too.? I think Yahoo always had things set up to redirect to unique country codes when they exist.? So try removing the "@" and let it use "@".? (It shouldn't use "@" though.? Groups don't use that domain.)

google drive integration

So I established the google drive integration into my group. And how can I now make a visible connection between the content of the google drive folder and groups.io?

Re: (No) Feedback on transfer?

Stew,

I've been waiting a week now for a transfer. Whenever I bring up the
transfer page and fill in the names it usually comes up with only the
'Start Transfer' button which looks like the process hasn't yet begun.
At the bottom right of the instructions page, use the In Process drop-down to select the name of the Y!Group in question. That will bring up a status page.
/yahootransfer

... have made '[email protected]' a moderator of the Yahoo group. So
I'm just waiting, but with no idea of what's going on.
The button you need to give the "Go" signal to the transfer agent will be on the In Process page. Before you click that button you can also make any last minute changes to the list of areas you want copied.

After you click that button, when you come back to the In Process page for that group the checkboxes will all be grey (disabled) because the copying may start at any moment or may be underway already.

Re: Reporting Spam Message

Phil,

554 5.7.1 Mail (id-52092-25173) appears to be unsolicited, please
resend with the code 3y5yvaza appended to email subject and ask to
have your sender email whitelisted (the code 3y5yvaza changes each 24
hours).
What Tony said.

Tell the member that they need to learn how to whitelist Groups.io messages, or turn off the extremely aggressive anti-spam method they are using.

The phrase "appears to be unsolicited" suggests to me that his/her email service is rejecting any message that comes from someone not in his/her address book, or someone they've never sent a message to, or some criteria like that. That kind of a mechanism is basically incompatible with being a member of an email list, because on a list you routinely expect to receive unsolicited messages from other members. Unless there's a mechanism to whitelist the list as a whole.

Invitations

DanB

Is there a way to use on your own custom invitation message? The system seems to merge my custom info with the original generic groups.io invite.
Thx! Dan

Re: bouncing

Anita,

So how come I was bouncing?
Go to your subscription page in any group and click on the "Email Delivery History" button. That page should tell you what your email service told Groups.io when it refused delivery of a message.

Now I have a member who is very sick bouncing and I can't change this.
Is there any way for me to unbounce her?
Same thing, but start by clicking on her row (anywhere except the checkbox) in your group's Membership list. If her row has a blue B then Groups.io is still trying to unbounce her by sending occasional probe messages. She needs to respond to one of those to prove that her email address is still working. If her row has a red B then Groups.io has given up, but you can ask for a bounce probe to be sent.

Regardless, she must receive and respond to the probe message in order to unbounce her email address.
